Asymmetric was a mistake.
Browsing these forums might have just given me the ultimate proof that if Humanity can divide itself, it will.
Even for something meaningless like a game.
Especially for something meaningless like a game.
Doesn't matter how literally nonexistant the stakes are. Circles will be formed, castes will be made, flags will be planted and people will desperately try to prove that people are actually genetically predisposed towards evil for not being on this side of the line.
At least with a symmetric game, you don't have a clear cut 1 for 1 "them".
Like Jesus.
We're playing a video game.
Seeing some of the flaming trash I have here and a lot of people seem to forget that. """""They""""" aren't a literal conglomerate of hellbeasts that ran over your parents and ate your dog. And it's hilariously pathetic to decide that since survivors/killers are so actually horrible as a whole you can take pleasure and righteous satisfaction in making things as miserable as possible for """"them"""" instead of just admitting to yourself that you're just as garbage as they.
I'm not mad-- just disappointed.

I will live up to your expectations and whole heartedly disagree with whatever statement presented in this post.

What it should be is a chance for people who enjoy survival-horror to play a game that doesn't get stale after repeated playthroughs because the NPC's AI is predictable while also allowing people to play an awesome terror-inducing killer as seen in movies and other video games: get your stalk on, your shocks and scares, and some bloody mayhem with virtual torture and gore.
What we got is DbD.

Yes.

Ingroup-outgroup bias is inherent to humans as a species and each of us has to make a concentrated effort to see both sides. Unfortunately, gaming forums tend to bring out the worst in people. Sometimes it's best to just take a break for a while and look at a cool bird.

yeah I've tried enough of these games, and some were pretty fun for a while, but they'll tend to die too quickly and even when not too quickly once people figure them out one side always has too much of an edge over the other and it becomes the same general experience in different presentations. no more asymms for me and I hope the genre is a very short lived one. by it's very nature it is impossible to adequately balance and will always at best shuffle between one side having too much of an edge over or power to annoy the other.

Asymmetric is a stroke of genius.
If it were a mistake this game wouldn't exist.

"stroke of genius" for a stockholder, since it's human nature to gang up and abuse the weak for our entertainment. It's a horrible design when it comes to balance, and potential fun for all roles. One side always has the position to humiliate and abuse the other, and only winds up in the victim position if it refuses to exert it's dominance over the other side out of some flaw of character like sense of decency.

No you are too pessimistic. The dumbest people are the loudest. And yh humans love to be in a specific group. It doesnt have to be asymmetric. Having a main in overwatch is enough to flame someone. But thats the minority.
And compared to the past we are not that bad. People got killed for meaningless things. Only being an ######### is progress. You can change something like that only step by step.

Applause. I get tired of the vitriol on here. (although I’m guilty of succumbing to moments of us vs them during peak frustration)

Entirely understandable.
At times, the sentiment gets so overwhelming I feel the need to take the opposing side purely out of spite for the sheer indignation, but I at least remember that playing at all's a losing game.

Asymmetrical would work if survivors didn't hold the controlling role.

The problem is just the game doesn't change. I kinda wish they would make a dbd 2 but I feel like the licenses that saved the game are gonna hold it back since they'd likely lose most if not all of them.
The game needs to be far, far more fleshed out. Each monster should have a suite of customizable domains themed after the killer. Survivors should have a multitude of tasks that actually reinforce the whole not a team just not enemies the survivors are supposed to be.
DbD is a game that feels trapped in early access. I kinda blame the licensed characters tho, not like hate blame just... I wonder how different the game might have been if they didn't worry about losing or disturbing so many licenses.
Edit: Should probably explain what this has to do with the topic. The issue is since the gameplay from the beginning has essentially become more and more simple with little changes it has created a dual problem. New blood is uninterested, old blood gets way to comfortable.
Drop ten bucks and get your ass kicked by a team of survivors who have over 30k hours between them. Play survivor solo and instantly lose because you have no idea what's happening and your either with other solos or swf who couldn't give less of a ######### about you. Play enough to understand the game and realize there isn't really much to learn, just repeat till habit. New blood leaves. Old blood stays.
Older players get set in their ways and get pissed when anything changes their surefire gameplay loop. Everything that makes said loop break is just "broken" "unfun" "unfair" "toxic" etc. etc. People form groups centered around their preferred side, and people start spending more time complaining on forums then playing the game. Then, when they do play the game, they let out all their anger on some person.
It's kinda sad. This game has such a massive amount of potential. There is so ######### much they can do with it. They won't, probably because the game has come close to dying before and their second game died as well. They are paranoid and afraid to change the game, so the playerbase becomes smaller and more cynical.

U just have to play the game for what it is.
Ppl hate me becuz I say things that encourages ppl to leave each other alone. Killers do what they want, and survivors do what they want.
But they can't sit still, they just HAVE to tear each other apart. Especially the survivors. They seem to get annoyed by everything and live in denial.
There's always complaints about something. The only issue I think the devs should fix are the technical ones.
Like freezing on Xbox. Console frame drops, lag. PC superiority. Banned for technical glitches that's caused by the game. Characters getting stuck somewhere. Etc.
