Let's talk about spies from the shadows

I just started using this perk and have really started to love it. I've had some many survivors just not pay attention to crows that it makes chasing down survivors so much easier. I havent seen many killers use it either which kind of surprises me. Very under utilized perk imo. I also like that people rarely use the perk (forget the name) that has survivors not both animals.

What are all yalls thoughts on it?

While I think it is pretty decent there is another base tracking perk that is superior that being Whispers.

Whispers gives you info no matter what the survivors are doing and is amazing in early and late game.

Spies is good for stealth and speed Killers, especially because nobody uses it so nobody expects it, in my opinion the second best info perk for those 2 types of Killers (first being Surveillance for stealth and BBQ for speed).

I havent even looked at whispers in years. (I just got back into dbd).

Thats the perk that the entity makes sounds as you are close to survivors right?

BBQ i like a lot but I doubt I'd use it much without the bloodpoint bonus. I use it so much just because of that

  • First off thank you I've been needing to talk about this forever, Spies is an amazing perk thats saved me a lot of time because it told me the survivors location so I can take a short cut to the survivor.

It notifies you when survivors are in a certain range with the closest being 32m or most killers TR.

I love Whispers as it picks up survivors hiding in lockers as well. Ive caught so many people trying to dodge Doctors SB by hiding in locker lol

But now I could run buffed Iron Maiden to punish them since they're exposed now as well!

As far as tracking perks, Whispers is great. I also enjoy Discordance as it guarantees location of at least 2 people.

SFTS is okay as you need to be within range and survivors need to disturb them. On smaller maps it could be helpful (Gideon Meat Plant, Hawkins, Lerys) but on big maps is could be useless (Mothers Dwelling)

In some maps it's the BEST tracking perk of the game.

I love it, and run very often. Just love how confused survivors must be sometimes as to how I knew where they were.

I only play spirit for daily but when i do i always have spies.... It's just fun and more useful than people think

I think one of the bigger reasons I like it is that its not as expected as others. BBQ you can hide in a locker and read early on if a killer has it. The fact that its unexpected works really well for it.

Its okey perk... It usually points out a survivor when I'm after him. Sometimes, on the other hand, it works.

Maybe buff the range 42 m.

My only issue with spies is on certain maps it might as well be an empty perk slot because of lack of crow spawns. Besides that I like the perk.

You should try it with Whispers, it's insane. Whispers is great for finding the rough area a survivor is in, and then Spies will help you find immersed survivors who are intent on staying hidden behind objects and jungle gyms. It does take 2 slots but your ability to find survivors quickly is so good.

I was running this for the new tome challenge but the perk actually ended up being so clutch. I located survivors who were sneaking up for the unhook 2-3 times in the trial, and it resulted in huge snow balls as I was then able to quickly down them and have 2 people hooked in the same area.

Spies is fine, but not good enough to make the cut into one of the 4 slots. Some killers find the information overload annoying and, with practice, Whispers is more valuable. I'd rather see changes to it:

1-have a higher CD on the effect to make it less annoying.

2-whenever a survivor startles a crow inside the perk radius, it will follow the survivor for a few seconds making periodic Loud Noise Notifications, just like the crow survivors get when they go AFK.

I’d rather keep more gen regression but that sounds decent!

Yeah against good survivors you'd probably have to prioritise the usual gen defense + chase perks, but Whispers + Spies is soo fun for a niche hunter type build

My only thing with Whispers is that I feel like it kills more time because you don't get as precise of a direction (unless its changed) where survivors are. I dont mind the visual cue overall though.

Side note, I hope at some point they adjust lighting and visuals of certain things like when a gen is done. Sometimes a perk won't trigger properly because of your positioning and the lighting

For me, problem with BBQ is I play slow mobility Killers like Myers and Jigsaw, when I get a hook I can see people in the end of the map and Im sure they will be long gone once I arrive there on the other hand, Surveillance gives me info on what gens are being touched which is almost always the most important place to apply pressure, its very useful for stealths because their insignificant Terror Radius, you kick a gen, go towards wathever you were going, look back and if it turned yellow you can surprise whoever is there, is also excelent to know when to stop chases and go protect the valuable gens and it does give a general idea on how progression is going once you have to protect only 4 or 5 gens.

Spies on the shadows has the advantage it tells you which direction and position a Survivor is going and it works during chases and mindgames, Survivor tossed the pallet on a high wall and you get the alert on the left? he is going left you can use that info to fake a pallet break and surprise them, no other detection perks does that without having a huge CD or a ridiculous activation condition.

Some people have said Whispers gives info more consistently but it has 4 drawbacks, smaller radius, the noise can muffle breathing and steps, it just tells you somebody is somewhere in a 32 radius but not their position at all (a 64 meter circle is a lot of ground to search for someone) and it doesnt work near hooked people (the hooked Survivor activates Whispers). Its more useful during EGC times thats true but Id rather have a bit less more concise info than a lot of unreliable info all the time.

Also, unless they adjusted Whispers, it would previously trigger if you are on a map with 2 floors so a map like silent hills would make the perk borderline useless since you wouldn't know of they are above or below you
