Just a question for people that play the game for years

Was the tunneling / camping aspect in the game better, the same or worse in 2016-2018?

Worse IMO, just because of moris. It’s a lot harder to rapidly eliminate a survivor without them.

I don't really remember much about my early survivor gameplay other than lots of camping and tunneling so...it was definitely worse.

I personally thinks it’s gotten better, but it might just of been me going from floating at rank 16ish to now rank 1ish

What can they do? Some killers are so weak, they are forced to do it more often than high mobile killers, that can actually pressure gens better.

A lot of that stemmed from how awful many loops were. I.e. finally getting someone on the hook after so much damn hard work meant many killers felt both VERY defensive of whom was on the hook, and also hoping to bait the other survivors to the hook rather than be put through another awful circus of horrible loops.

People often say that loops were much stronger which is true but they often forget that almost nobody actually looped all that well (if at all) even when it was so easy, the harder it got later on, the better survivors became at it.

Killers just generally camped more back in the day even if they were againt bad survivors and had fast chases. Game was just designed around camping with no good chase powers and only trapper, trapping infront of hooks beiing meta.

There hasn't really been any change over the years in my opinion. It seems about the same.

Id say tunneling was worse in the old days. Due to things people have already stated. Double pallets, infinites, moris ect. The introduction of BBQ was to try to encourage killers to leave the hook and go hunting.

I would say it used to be worse, but it also has a lot to do with what ranks you play against. The lower skilled killers use techniques like that on lower skilled survivors. Those killers rarely make it into higher ranks because you lose matches when you attempt those strategies. Higher ranking killers have to apply major map pressure to win, and you can’t tunnel and camp while applying map pressure.

So yeah, it was worse, but I wouldn’t say it was insanely worse. But lower tier matches are still horrible about that. A survivor has to dig deep and fight their way out of low ranks in order to get away from it.

Just to add to this, the disarm trap and unhook prompts were the same button. So just a slight movement of the mouse you could go into the unhook animation and step in the trap instead of disarming.

I started late 2018 just before spirit came out. It's hard to say but this was before current DS, moris were also obviously a thing. In low ranks (they used to match low rank survivors and low rank killers together) every other game was a wraith standing cloaked next to the hook, insidious bubba was way more popular as well.

As for tunnelling despite no current DS it didn't seem that different. Green mori + old dying light I'd see fairly often tho.

Reliving all that I have no idea how I stuck with this game :/ what's wrong with me

Yes, it was much worse. However, loops were awful back in the day (double pallets, pallet vacuum, infinites, and the list goes on...), and because of that it was somewhat of a "necessity" to kill a survivor quickly.

oh I guess it depends who you ask to.

Brown/Yellow ranks have always been a camp fest. Green has always been a strange place to be. It is a mixed bag of good killers willingly deranking and bad killers using crutches against bad survivors that don’t know how to counter them. For example, with old Ruin (regression on good skillchecks) it was pretty usual to find green ranks Hags camping their totem.

    Purple/Red is a different matter:

Huntresses have always been proxy camping, no matter what rank and what time you faced her, and I never understood why.

There was a time where Freddy was heavily buffed and he could completely ignore Borrowed Time (deep wound would go down outside of TR and Freddy doesnt have a TR -technically- if he hits you after you’re unhooked and send you in the nightmare) and tunneling was way more common than now.

Learherface was more of a camper before, because his chainsaw “recently” got buffed and can now last much longer/hence making him better in a chase and discouraging player from camping.

Other than that, and generally speaking, I thinks nothing else has changed from the past.

    better for killers

BT used to work on both survivors

DS was just broken as hell literally made all survivors have an extra hook in them.

However that was all topped by the glorious strat of facecamping ACTAUL facecamping not this kitty play we have now

you literally could not save someone getting face camped oh and also trapper with traps right under hooks was a thing.

And mori's worked without a hook so that was tunneling without even having to tunnel.
