First time seeing this..
It was in a corner of the middle courtyard, where the 2 god pallets are.. thought the background was pretty cool.

It's a secret, been there ever since Silent Hill DLC. If you do the gen in music room and chemistry classroom (I think) the door to in there will open up and you get a chest. I think the item gotten will be of Ultra Rare quality.
It's rare to see cause it's rare to have both chemistry and music room gens spawn at the same time.

I think there's always gens in those rooms. In the original Silent Hill, Midwich features puzzles in those rooms (including the infamous Bird Piano one) required to progress, which is why it's those two generators that are required to reveal this chest. You know you've done one of the right ones as the clock hands will move and the school bell will ring.

No they are not guaranteed spawns. I've played Midwich many times and sometimes there is not gen in the chemistry room or the music room. It's random.
But anyway as others have pointed out this is an easter egg for the first Silent Hill game. In it Harry has to find two emblems (one in the music room and one in the chemistry room) and bring them to the school courtyard to move forward in the game. If you look at the clock tower in the school yard where the two god pallets are you will see two empty plaques on the wall of the structure. If a gen spawns and is done in the music room or the chemisty room an emblem will appear on that plaque. If both gens spawn and are done as part of the 5 needed to escape then when the doors are opened the door to the clock tower will open and that chest will appear.

I can't help but wonder if there is another easter egg there that isn't yet discovered. Anyone know if there are any leads to something in addition to this?

@NoOneKnowsNova The only way to guarantee proper spawns is to use the 'Mary's Letter' offering. You will get the right gen spawns every time if one is burned. Makes me wonder if it's the same for finding the undiscovered easter egg on Oni's map, seems everyone forgot about it or gave up.

My bad then! I always assumed they were guaranteed spawns but I guess if two people have deconfirmed me then they're right.

No chem room is a guaranteed spawn, I've had music room gen spawn more than I've had chem room gen spawn as well
