So over other more important things, BHVR is working on... a chat filter?
Is this even necessary? I get it, lots of people say pretty outlandish things, but out of other better things to work on BHVR chooses to implement a system that will protect people's feelings. Again, there is nothing wrong with the chat filter. But why don't they instead focus their resources on things that are far more important, like the desync problem, bug fixes, or tweaking killer powers and addons?
Besides, it is not going to help all that much with toxicity. We can already turn off the chat, I don't think a chat filter is necessary.

You do know they can have employees work on multiple things at once.
19 -
This is more likely than not something they've been working on the past while, while contributing to other things.

In a game about the brutal hunting and killing of innocents trying to escape hell, the last thing you want to see is mean gamer words in postgame chat.
10 -
Or maybe if someone has their feelings hurt they could ...... they could...... toggle the chat off themselves? 🧐🤔

Sorry people dont want to be subject to the racism and homophobia that runs rampant in this community, our fault I guess

Maybe it means console will get end game chat? I want to say gg wp to everyone, not just streamers :(

You know ######### is censored here, but not #########'?
If people wanna say that garbage, they're gonna do some dumb @ or ! workarounds to do it. Not much to be done about that.
As always, a thicker skin will do you far better than an easily subverted babysitting.

Oh yeah because years of active discrimination hasn't given me a thick skin. It's still not ######### nice to be treated as less or different because of who you are (which you have no control over for that matter).
Maybe if you were subject to that you wouldn't say #########-y things like this. Just because people should learn to take things lightly doesn't mean it should be tolerated and/or ignored.
Who cares if people try to avoid the filters it still puts out a statement that it's not acceptable, and if behaviour is smart they'll censor @ and ! variants too!
Please take some time to think before you post because I just wasted a minute and a half typing what you could of thought of with a shred of empathy

I hope the word "cancer" is included in the filter, that seems to be the number 1 comment among the dbd community. I'd prefer it if they took the overwatch approach and automatically translated some of the comments so "gg ez" becomes "mommy says its time for me to go to bed"

In an interview from 7 months ago Cote said they hired an outside company that specializes in chat filters so atleast they weren't taking devs focus away from the game. Chat gets tons of complaints so makes sense they are adding a filter.
2 -
Of course it's not acceptable.
That's why you can report it in-game. It's right there, under Communications Abuse: Hateful Speech.
It's already a bannable offense, all a chat filter is going to do is sometimes censor a bad word for someone who hasn't figured out how to get around it yet. And chat filters are the easiest thing to get around.
And i'm sorry that you've had to experience that kind of garbage, but if a middling statement like that was all it took to get you this riled up, then you clearly haven't gotten thick enough skin.
6 -
Reports do jack #########, none of the ones I've submitted have been acted upon, even direct a direct ticket to support has done ######### all in one particularly extreme case.
And I'm not riled up I'm just pointing out the issues with what your saying

Just put in stock phrases and be done with it. Something like in Hearthstone.

Your wording leads me to believe otherwise, but very well.
And if reporting doesn't do anything, then what do you think a chat filter is going to do?
If all else fails, it falls to you as a personal responsibility to not let these things get to you. Whether it's through sheer endurance, not looking, turning off chat, whatever you have to do, whatever a company is going to do to reduce people saying awful trash with an open chat system won't be a hundredth as effective as taking care of it yourself.
Not saying it's as easy as flipping a switch to not be bothered by some of the bile people can spew, but there's always something you can do about it for yourself.

No, BHVR is composed of one person called John Behaviour and that's it.
4 -
Even more reason to question their competence.
5 -
Considering the current state of the game and their actions lately, it is "questionable" how things will turn out. I know they can work on multiple things at once, but it would be better to actually focus on fixing the more prominent issues.

Well we all wanted this feature since dbd first came out. Way more important than colorblind mode. Right? Lol. Where they get the ideas for all those things is what I don't get. They ask for feedback from ptb, surveys etc. and they turn around and do the opposite. Just to piss people off? Or just to say that they communicate with the community?
3 -
Exactly, this should not be a priority.
1 -
I actually quite like the idea, although am a bit skeptical on how much will be censored. I also hope that the chat does not somehow gain any bugs... somehow.

Chat filther: No one shall ever swear again!
Fu ck/ Sh it/ Di ck:
Allow us to introduce ourselves
joking aside, as if a chat filther will actually tone down the toxicity, AH!, what a joke... if someone can't stand that situation, hiding the chat or directly leave at the end is a faster solution.
2 -
"At least my feelings wont get hurt!"
3 -
I'm really glad they're prioritizing this. They shouldn't be providing an environment where it's normal for people to be verbally abused and have slurs directed at them, so any steps they take to correct that are good.

Not on quality control apparently.

It makes me sad how anyone thinks a chat filter is unnecessary.
And I really don’t have the energy to explain why it’s important.

Honestly, it's good that they have such easy projects they can reset their minds on. Banging your head against the brick wall that is... I would call out DbD, but honestly this just applies to every difficult problem. It sucks and it numbs your mind and you genuinely need to take a break and do something else. As anyone can tell you, it increases productivity by refreshing your headstate.
So why not work on a chat filter or colourblind mode?
1 -
As to the intended purpose, my guess is that less people will need reporting because they'll literally be unable to say those things.
