Ending your match on first hook.
Just played 3 games in a row where 2 people killed themselves on first hook. Just a PSA that if you are somebody who does this, you should consider not playing the game if you can't handle a core mechanic of it. As an aside, not that it should matter, but the killers for those 3 games were Trapper, Billy and Nurse. The nurse was baby af.
Anybody have similar experiences where somebody let go on first hook for seemingly no reason?

I very rarely do it. Only when I see that no one is going to save me and I get bored being on the hook.

I've been getting plenty thanks to my really awful MM. I'm being paired with baby ranks and I swear they instantly struggle the hook rather than wait. Or I'll have ones who just outright suicide or DC on first hook. Even when I'm playing killer, I'm having people do it, and I've been playing only Demo recently. I mean really. Who DC's or suicides to a Demogorgon?

It happens all the time. They are losers, probably in real life too. They leave the other Survivors in a world of pain because of it and don't care in the slightest. Some of them, insane as it sounds, think they are punishing the Killer by doing it.

I see this all the time. I assume its out of frustration that they were caught first and went down in 5-10 seconds. It sucks because it makes it really hard to do gens with just the three of us. It doesn't help that most killers don't let up a bit on the pressure (not that they're required to) and just make the match miserable.

A match just started on Blood Lodge. I barely walked five steps before Bubba finds me first. I use a couple pallets in chase, including shack with basement there, then go down in the middle. Get dragged to the basement with Iron Grasp. No DS available on that character. No thanks.
If the devs didn't want this to be possible, they'd have changed the mechanic by now.

This is a bit more understandable if you know people aren't coming for you. Sadly, the people who did it in my games decided to do it immediately. I just don't get when people do that 😅

That's a mood right there. Happens to me a lot as well when I'm playing killer if I go down a bunch in ranks from not playing in a while. I understand that very new people might see the "attempt escape" prompt and figure it's what you're meant to do, but still, sucks to see.

Yeah, I hear that. Although killers don't have to relent when a survivor kills themself on first hook, when I play killer I normally ease up a bit. Especially if they still have 4 or 5 gens to do.

I get that, I honestly do. But you have to understand the perspective of the remaining survivors and how that looks to them. You being on hook can still benefit the team, especially if the Bubba is a basement camping Bubba.
Although I do respect the fact that you shouldn't have to twiddle your thumbs being bored on hook just to keep a camping killer near you so your teammates can slam gens and ignore you.
It's a fine line that I hope gets tweaked a bit when the devs are able to spend some time on it.

I do it occasionally. Yesterday against a Spirit on the game map. Ruin btw. Someone got downed about 40 seconds into the game. I hid but she saw me apparently. I got hooked. Ok. Bad start. Right after I was hooked the original guy got slugged and Spirit was on someone else.
We were definitely going to lose that match (maybe one player would or did get the hatch). But that game was effectively over. At that point I felt I was better off moving on to the next game. Again, not something I do all the time, but when the writing is on the wall, why not?

It also doesn't help that the in-game tutorial literally tells you to use it as well, rather than state it's more of a 'Last resort' option. Honestly the whole in-game tutorial for both survivor and killer is severely outdated at this point.

although this has yet to happen but if I reach struggle with Kindred equipped and the killer chasing someone at the other side of the map, I will not struggle.

So let me get this straight; you got caught and put in the basement, and you feel that is the DEV's fault? What mechanic are you talking about them changing exactly? :) It sounds like you got chased, downed, and hooked.

"this to be possible" being a survivor opting to take themselves out of a match while on the hook (or at least have a 96% chance of doing so). I wasn't asking for anything to be changed in my comment.

It is possible; you are perfectly able to be selfish, screw over the other Survivors, and take yourself out of the match. Unlike a disconnect, suiciding on the hook (although essentially the same thing) is legal. The way I read your post, it sounded like there was some mechanic in the being chased, downed, and hooked that you wanted changed. Now I understand your meaning.
In point of fact, the DEV don't like it when you do it, but yes they let you retain your agency to take yourself out. The rest of us are just commenting on how immature and awful the that behavior is in application.

Fair point, I would consider this too.

"Just a PSA that if you are somebody who does this, you should consider not playing the game if you can't handle a core mechanic of it." - @JordanMalicious
Survivors are by all means allowed to attempt to escape the hook and are allowed to not bother struggling in the second phase. This is a core mechanic. Sounds like you should take your own advice and stop playing...

I see you're someone who gives up on first hook because you can't see a game through. Good to know.

Okay, if you really think so, then quote me saying that I give up on first hook. Go on, my post in this thread was not edited.
Maybe you can't handle being called a hypocrite and then just assume that I play a certain way because I don't "yes, and" you. Smh

I mean, you deliberately misinterpreted my words and ignored the context. So yeah, I'm gonna make assumptions about you being a sore loser in game and letting go on first hook since you seem to want to defend the people who do it by twisting my words and saying it's a core mechanic of the game like I am unaware of that. Your gotcha wasn't that good, I'm sorry you're pressed about my thoughts.

You know when you get chased for 2-3 Mins and your randoms didn't even finish 1 gen? Thats the time where I try to get my "unhook yourself" achievement.
They don't value my time. So why should I value theirs?

If I play with kindred and I see my mates are trying to farm me from the hook (who is faster) and no one repairs a gen, it's a horrible situation of course...
Sometimes it's forcing me to sacrifice myself, because I dont wanna waste any time with this farmer boys. Good for the killer and bad for the mates 🙆♀️

i understand when survivors leave after a long chase and no gens get done. Especially when they get put on the hook, all they see is 3 survivors crouching nearby thirsting for unhook points.

I'm glad the capability is there for one reason. Immersive survivors. A match with a couple of immersive survivors makes it almost impossible to knock out 5 gens against a decent killer. Immersives are playing with the goal of sabotaging every other survivor by getting them killed so they can make a run for the hatch. I'm not joining them because I get bored with sessions of hide and seek. The chances of knocking out 5 gens against even a basic killer with only a couple of survivors even attempting to do them are extremely small. The moment it becomes obvious I am in that situation I will very intentionally go find the killer, get hooked, and immediately die on that first hook. It's a waste of my time to even attempt to do anything in a match where a couple of survivors are just hiding.
