"Heroic Cause" Rift Challenge

Will someone please explain to me why the devs are obsessed with putting insanely tedious and hard to get challenges in the 2nd part of every single tome? The amount of luck and the sheer number of variables in this challenge actually hurt

first you need a killer who is entirely okay with slugging (good luck finding that at lower ranks)

then you need to be just close enough to heal them without the killer finding you

AND then you need to also do this TWICE IN ONE GAME

alternatively you do this challenge with a UB SG Tenacity Build, I.E something you would need to spend money to get

or you just get lucky enough to have a farming killer or a SWF, one or the other

like come on, if you want hard challenges then put them in parts 3 or 4, not 2

edit: apparently you either have to pick yourself up twice or heal someone twice, since i picked myself up with UB then healed someone to full with For the People and it didn't complete, either that or it bugged

adding "bugs" to the list of things that make this challenge essentially out of your control, as if that list wasn't long enough

yeah this is an exceptionally hard challenge to get, added in the need to have the perk empathy equipped whilst you do it is a bit extreme.

I got it done in my third game, just changed my Build a little bit so that I can use Empathy (needed for the Challenge) and Unbreakable. And it worked out.

Its fine that there is a harder Challenge, you have two weeks before the next level. And if that is left as the last Challenge to do, you will most likely have 1 week+ to do it.

Yea this challenge sucks. I don’t play survivor, just want the BP’s.

Took me 5 game (as solo survivor) to get. Started out with Botany, WGLF and purple medkit. Though I never went against a killer that slugged.

So I put on For the People and started throwing the game. Followed injured and chased survivors around all game, until they went down, only to heal them up instantly and watch them go down instantly again and now the tradeoff is that I'm injured. I got trashtalked a lot in endgame chat, so that was a fun gaming experience.

Finally completed this thanks to an awesome Nurse coop. Thanks Nurse!

That's actually a very good idea. Apart from Empathy and FTP what else did you use? Unbreakable, Botany or WGLF?

  • indieeden7
    indieeden7 Member Posts: 3,416

I used Dead Hard and Iron Will just to make the broken status effect less hindering, I didn't really try to play too seriously though, I went into the match aiming to get the challenge done and nothing else.

Well thank you. After a few frustrating attempts I will steal you're bright idea 😄 fingers crossed !

I can confirm that this dod indeed work for me! Actually got 3 saves for other people and an unbreakable as a 4th lol. Took a few games, ended up being an extremely skillful spirit who very fortunately always respected DS - which gave me my chance!

That having been said I do agree with a point someone else made on another post, this challenge is killer dependant ie slugging. And if the killer doesn't slug then there's near enough nothing that can be done - takes the skill out of your hands to a certain degree

    ???

I read another Forum post about this challenge and they say "For the People" didn't count for the Challenge?

So can i use it or not?

I've been trying for two days. Only one killer has slugged more than once in a match and someone else beat me to the heal the second time.

    This challenge is so tedious.

I know, as I said I'm not a fan of challenges that are very circumstantial rather than my own skill; relying on the killer to slug and if they don't then too bad. I stole @indieeden7 idea of For the People, Irom Will, Empathy and I used Unbreakable instead of dead hard. FTP was the game changer for me though because you can do it instantly. For me it actually came down to the team going down quickly to a very good spirit and the spirit Respecting DS. I also hovered around the injured the whole time and I'd wait out broken to heal with a med kit and do it again. I wouldnt go as far to say I threw the game because I had the luxury of being able to wait for the spirit to instantly leave and start another chase and then heal the person so I was actually useful. I didn't touch a gen all game but then no one really did. It was a highly skilled spirt juggling everyone (although she didn't get me until later on because i was careful).

I suppose what you need for this challenge is

    1) Suitable perk build. I have every survivor perk unlocked and I found this frustrating. Can only imagine what it must be like if you didn't

    2) A reasonable to highly skilled killer (if unskilled killer then not enough people will go down so challenge busted)

    3) A killer who respects DS (this was the key for me)

    4) Whatever you do DO NOT BE THE FIRST TO GO DOWN (Im not saying it's impossible but considerably harder)

    5) A SWF if possible (distract the killer when downing someone to provoke the killer to leave. Im solo so don't have this luxury)

    6) A balance between sticking to the injured like glue while not putting yourself in too much danger (not always easy, FTP requires you to be fully healthy so getting the balance wasn't easy because if I got injured then forget it

    7) Acceptance that unless you get highly efficient team mates to the highest degree, you won't win the game - sacrificing the trial for the challnegw. As I said i actually helped my team , no gens were really getting done so I wasn't bothered about that. I've heard other people getting the challenge and getting grief for it

And i totally get it, although I'd understand understand they're doing their challenge its annoying to play well just to have someone do something for the challenge and basically sacrifice the game. Although I blame the challnege itself. I'm sure in 1/100 games it could be done without thinking, there's been plenty of times I've healed 2 teammates from dying without thinking but k didn't have to use a perk slot for empathy to do it. Also as I previously mentioned the ability of this challnege is reliant on the killer slugging as much as your skill. Reminds me risky repairs where 2 gens had to be completed in killers TR in one match - relied as much on the killer than you - Distressing docotr? Great. MA myers? Too bad no chance. Overall I despise challenges that are circumstantial over skillful

(And dont even get me started on the sacrifice 4 in the basement challenge how is that still even a challenge)

    Just my thoughts

    Good luck with the challenge!

Yeah this challenge is absurd because it doesnt depend on you at all, its like putting "Cleanse 4 Hexes in on trial".

Yeah I even had trouble doing this challenge as well, the most tedious one so far has to be the totems one too.

  • Irisora
    Irisora Member Posts: 1,442

It took me like 20 matches but i finally did it yesterday. It is a proper challenge not like most of the tome, at least it give you an amazing feeling after completing it.

  • Gylfie
    Gylfie Member Posts: 644

I actually enjoyed the totem one because I did it with Small Game equipped and found hex totems every single game. That made me feel at least a little useful. Haven't gotten to Heroic Cause yet but I'm already dreading it...

I managed this one after 10 games or so, needed an infectious slugging nurse.

it was a big brain moment for me I needed one more revive, there was just me and a Kate left. I could see Kate with empathy and I was being chased by the nurse. i went down close to Kate on purpose so the nurse would chase her, then I unbreakabled off the floor and got the challenge done.

  • Funnily enough, not only is that challenge bugging, but so is the Heroic Cause challenge! I finished it and it broke the challenge flag on the side of my screen making it so I could only see my challenges by going to the Archives through the main menu. After several miserable games trying to finish it, I did and the game didn't log my completion! It's still so broken!

It isn’t much of a challenge if it’s easy, is it?

  • Dwight_Fairfield
    Dwight_Fairfield Member Posts: 7,095

Well I finally got it done today. Thanks to the sluggiest killer in the game; the Twins. As soon as I realized it was them I knew it would be the match I'd get this done in.

  • CountVampyr
    CountVampyr Member Posts: 1,050

It’s weird that you had such a hard time with that challenge considering that the description says nothing about having to be in close proximity to the killer.

  • KingFrost
    KingFrost Member Posts: 3,014

It's not about being easy. It's totally out of your control.

It'd be like if there were a challenge that said: "Cleanse 4 hex totems. Complete this in one Trial."

or "Grab a survivor out of a locker twice in one match." (This was an actual challenge IIRC)

It's not really skill based. It's totally in the control of your opponents. If a Killer picks up a survivor instantly, you can't pick them up from being downed no matter how skilled you are.

  • CountVampyr
    CountVampyr Member Posts: 1,050

Kind of bad examples. I’ve actually cleansed 4 totems all by myself on many occasions. Grabbing more than one survivor out of a locker does seem a bit more like stars need to be in the proper alignment sort of thing. For every challenge there is usually at least one perk that will increase your odds of success substantially. You just need to figure what it is.

That was a nightmare and the fact it says play hillbilly I mean why can’t we just chainsaw with bubba why say use this killer when we have 2chainsaws

Well they’ve never asked us to do that, so...

I admit some of the challenges are tough, but to date I have managed to pass all of the survivor challenges in every rift to date and I’m not even among the best players. They’re all entirely possible, you just need determination.

Why do they allow these challenges? You're not helping your team and just make the experience unenjoyable for everyone including yourself

Edit: had a game where a Yui wouldn't let me recover on my own. I went down 6 ranks because of this challenge and thrown so many games because how ridiculous the requirements are. How hard is it to make a challenge where it's both pick up downed survivors or unhook. That would be infinitely better then this which only exists because of variety. Rant over

Got it on my second try, you just need to wait for a Killer that won't be a tunneler and who respects DS. I got one early with Unbreakable then picked 2 people off the ground with WGLF. Obviously I had Empathy, which made it easier to pick up slugs cause I saw where they went down, and finally I brought DS so there would be an Obsession and (hopefully) the Killer would respect it for everyone.

I hate this challenge - I have probably done 30 matches and still not completed it, it's incredibly difficult to get the right circumstances.

  • NVerde
    NVerde Member Posts: 264

I have DS, Empathy (obv), Unbreakable and WGLF and I can still only manage one heal from dying state - the most annoying is when I'm trying to self-heal with Unbreakable and a teammate comes to 'help' me!

Save it for last and don't go out of your way for it. Some challenges are absolute wastes of time.
