Rift - "Self Preservation"
Can someone explain to me what this rift challenge actually asks for:
Hide in a locker within 5 seconds of being in a chase with a killer.
Am I suppose to camp a locker, hope a killer spots me, and within 5 seconds of the chase start notification sprint jump into that same locker?

Just get into a locker after chase starts. You have a 5 second window to do so after chase starts

I've seen this clear on both the beginning and end of a chase.
Frankly, I have no idea how it's supposed to be completed, and I wish it was worded better--as do many others, apparently.

Actually it may be getting into a locker within 5 seconds of the chase ending. So basically any time during the chase you can do it. This one wound up being easier than I thought it’d be. Its a good one to use quick and quiet in.

It's easy, either while being chased, or within 5 seconds of the chase ending (you'll get the Escaped BP notification), hop in a locker. Just bring quick and quiet and head on for one match.

Pretty sure you can just get this challenge by normally looping. I just looped a jungle gym and hopped in the locker with Quick & Quiet then left when they continued on the loop trying to "catch up" with me. Could also just hop in a locker with DS as the killers behind you.

Typically for chase-based challenges doesn't the chase have to be fully in effect for them to register as complete?. I.e. doesn't it require both proximity and being in the field of view of the killer? In other words, completing this challenge pretty much requires trading a hit/grab for it

I was going to mention that if the challenge makes you hop into a closet within the first 5 seconds of a chase then that isn’t a challenge, that’s just giving the killer a free hook. That wouldn’t even give you the time to activate Head On in that scenario.

If you go around a corner and hop in quick, they will keep going for a second before they see the scratch marks stop, then come back and figure out you went in a locker. Then you stun them. Always takes them longer than 3 seconds to figure it out.

It's either during chase or within 5 seconds of getting the escaped BP notifier.

No. It doesn't. You can enter locker slowly instead of rushed action, use head on, quick and quiet, deception to remain unnoticed or just jump in a locker when killer is carrying a survivor

I’m pretty sure that you have to be moving for a few seconds before it is even considered a chase. You can’t just hop into a nearby closet (or jump off a high point in similar challenges) and expect it to count. Yes, the scenario you depict is possible, it’s just needlessly reckless and unlikely to work with experienced killers. I wouldn’t rely upon Head On to do the trick when the killer is that close.

I completed this against a camping/tunneling Ghost Face.
Bill unhooked me with Borrowed Time, I immediately got hit again by the killer, I ran from the hook to the nearest locker and just jumped straight in knowing I was going to get tunneled to death anyway. Killer pulled me straight out, rehooked me, and then the challenge considered itself completed.

Yes under normal circumstances all those strategies could work, but once you add the 5 second requirement, most - if not all - of them go out the window (or inside of a locker)
Whenever a killer finds you, in the vast majority of scenarios it will be when you are working on a generator. For the survivor-killer meeting to register as a full-blown chase, the survivor absolutely has to get spotted. Once that starts, this same survivor has to:
a) get away from the killer
b) find a nearby locker
c) get into this locker
d) complete all of the above within 5 seconds.
Q&Q is the most effective when you double-back over your own red marks, and getting a chance to create such scenario within 5 seconds of a chase start borders on impossibility.

How hard is that? Half the tiles with pallets on the map have lockers next to them

Again: if the perameters is to do all of that within the very first 5 seconds of a chase.... VERY DIFFICULT.

Lol. Literally one the few challenges that can be completed in less than few seconds in one game without any effort. But ok.

So good thing it's not?
Did you misread "Hide in a locker within 5 seconds of being in a chase with a killer" as "...within 5 seconds of beginning a chase" or something?

If you read the entire conversation going on you would have your answer.

To summarize:
1)No one is sure what this challenge is precisely asking for
2)One of the ways you can complete it easily, is by dashing into a locker, after a danger-close unhook.

Eh... the context of your reply & the last few posts seemingly suggested you all were arguing about the difficulty of the challenge that actually exists in this game, as this thread was devoted to sorting out. I missed that split 10 posts earlier where the central matter seemingly shifted to arguing the hypothetical difficulty of a challenge that never existed yet which others are clearly still misinterpreting it as.
Might be some connection there to why people keep showing up making posts thinking the matter remains a mystery...
