Hillbilly Tips?

Blight main looking to get into Billy, I've been really into the mobility killers and only now I'm really starting to invest time into them and I'd really love some advice for Hillbilly since I almost always lose with him vs competent survivors. Any advice on when to chainsaw, where to not use it, best time to use it for mobility and curve sawing

Thanks for any help you can give

Can't really use the chainsaw to down survivors? That's fine, just use it for the mobility until you get used to the saw

I'd hightly recomend oni instead. Billy is a mere shadow of himself but if you insist on learning him you need to try and get better at the curves on his saw. Using the saw actively to limit test how far you can turn the saw and what loops it works on is the ultimate test of how good a billy player you can be.

Build wise whilst learning him make sure to use heat add ons so you r not gimped by the overheat mechanic continously limiting your power and make sure to pack some turning add ons to allow for better mannovouring.

Im not sure if there any modern billy guides post changes and I doubht the older guides are in line with his current limitations so you might have to do a lot of testing/overheating to figure out where you can and can't use your saw. Of curse you want to m1 in a certain areas but if you want to get really good. Play around with the saw on a lot of loops to limit test his power.

When it comes to curving it's all about trial and error

"Throw some **** at the wall and see what sticks" kind of thing & memorize it + mindgame heavy

By that I mean, that some loops, like Blight, you will slide right off, except you can use it for your chainsaw. The best examples are the 2 cars at both exists of Badham Preschool that you can curve really early on and your momentum will carry on even if you hit the car at a 80* angle. It's great to know these kind of things as it feels great hitting these curves & people don't expect it at all.

See what loops / objects you can slide right off & curve around

    • Blight and Billy without addons have the same speed when in rush so you'll feel somewhat familiar in that perspective.
    • Death Engravings gives you 15% Movement Speed & Doom Engravings gives you 20% Movement Speed. However they do add up to the charge time.
    • I like to wait around 5 seconds before I start revving my chainsaw as billy so survivors have enough time to move and get on gens. Why? Once you rev it, the sound que is map wide and everyone'll know it's a Billy.
    • Billy's power is best used for map traversal.
    • If you are having trouble chainsawing survivors. I would recommend Shadowborn. It helps you in that regard and fixes the terrible FOV billy has + it really ads up to the feeling of speed and it's really satisfying just buzzing around the map with it.
    • Small maps like Hawkins, you'll have to become a Limp Billy... Sry. You can chainsaw from one side to the other if there's nothing your path and curving can be quite difficult as the spaces are rather tight. Game Map on the other hand, has some nice spots for curving, not all.
    • If you want to curve, you'll have to predict where you opponent is gonna be at certain jungle gyms / loops if you can't see them. Faking a pallet break with chainsaw will allow you to get these kind of hits.
    • Speaking of fake revving, revving your chainsaw for 1 second can make the survivor loop you one more time. Be careful however, they can be really really slippery and go around you and drop the pallet as it's difficult tracking these kind of survivors.
    • Don't feel sry when u need to slug when the opportunity arises.
    • If someone tries to flashlight you in the open when ur carrying someone and no loops / windows nearby... that's a Free down. I tend to drop the survivor i'm carrying and slug him while I down the other and hook him.

    ------------

Also for Curving I would recommend some Channels & montages. Unfortunately after his rework not many people play billy :(

    1. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRQ8I5AvTFZIGjg7O3RJomw - Really underrated channel
    2. https://www.youtube.com/c/IIVIVII/videos - Billy nation
    3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lmIYb1iTyQ&ab_channel=Fak3D3atH - a montage showcasing his power. This is from 2019 but some things are still possible like the curves. I warn you, Skybilly is DEAD, there are still some spots but it's heavily influenced by RNG and your skill
    4. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqpx7ytQ69g&ab_channel=DbdBot - a more up to date flick billy montage - Uploaded like last week.
    5. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDfBWf30PyE&ab_channel=D3ADPlays - 3:48 the trees are your biggest enemy in the reworked maps.

WHEN YOU CURVE, MAKE SURE CONTROLLER SENSITIVIY FOR KILLER IS MAX !

    -----

Billy's counter are the windows so equipping Bamboozle is recommended as it really reduces the amount of time a window can be abused against him.

    As for builds:

    • Corrupt
    • BBQ
    • Bamboozle
    • Pop

    ----

    • BBQ - It's obvious
    • Undying - Support Ruin
    • Ruin - Constant Pressure
    • Tinkerer - Billy while he's undetectable he makes NO NOISE so you can be sniped from across the map by a silent Billy

    Strongest Billy build IMO

    ------

    I use:

    • BBQ
    • Pop
    • Bamboozle
    • Shadowborn

I just love the feeling of Shadowborn.

    ---------

    • BBQ
    • Bamboozle
    • Infectious
    • Enduring / Pop

The "You can't stop me and my snowball build" - Requires to be really good at Billy or have boosted survivors

    When it comes to addons....

    • Engravings are S tier IMO
    • He has some addons that make him undetectable. You can make some neat builds around those
    • Addons that reduce heat generation & reduces recovery time after hitting an object are really good for starters & players that want to learn FlickBilly
    • Lopro Chain can reduce the amount of counterplay survivors have to you, which is pre-dropping pallets. You can chainsaw right trough them and hit them for one health state. Really good if you know what ur doing. You can go trough walls & pallets and there's no limit how many you can break trough.
    • Curve billy is also a fun option in open maps.
    • Other addons are trash

    --------------------------

That's honestly all i could think of right now.

I really need to make a document with everything I know as a Billy main so I don't lose it when writing things like these.

Anyone else hoping this was going to be about an actual hillbilly giving dbd tips?

Against good survivors billy is probably better. Getting your power as oni is painful against survivors who play it safe

Against good survivors an oni in his power is more threatening as survivors know to abuse loops billy cant chainsaw around forcing him to either overheat or m1. Feel both have their checks and balances but as someone who has a lot of hours on both i feel onis more threatening.

Anyways, I have yet to try him again after taking a break 2 years ago so he has changed a lot I've heard with his addons and a few other things. From what I've seen he does better now with being able to walk and rev

Oni can snowball better but good survivors will hide for the duration and go back to playing safe while he’s out of power

As long as none of them get found because with oni+infectious ive seen so many 4ks from one down lol.

True and billy can also snowball really well bu also go from hook to hook better due to his better mobility

Id say base yeah billy has advantages but once you start getting into addons topknot oni is literally S tier. If billy probably didnt get overnerfed id say theyd be pretty even.

  • Phasmamain

Oh yeah top knot is literally tuning guide when that was a thing

Billy still has tuning but it makes him 110% not worth it at all. Rather theyd just replace it with a addon that say makes billy unable to overheat since its a purple.

  • Phasmamain
    Phasmamain Member Posts: 11,534

It doesn’t even reduce cooldown or noise like old tuning guide did

In chase, try to use your base speed, no saw to push them away from something that can block your saw from them, like a window or L+T wall loop.
