I can't even count he amount of times I've gotten screwed over by my teammates that self care in corners instead of doing gens. For the love of god, stop running self care. Bring a medkit or better yet, find another survivor to heal you.

It isn't always possible. If you play solo queue, it's even harder.

I started with Claudette and it was hard to get rid of it, but you are right: it is overrated.

I feel you lol, and it's even worse when they heal against one shot killers.

i know what you mean lol. Self care chews up a lot of time especially through sloppy that’s about almost the same amount of time it takes to complete a gen.

And then there’s those survivors who will self care with legion oh my god that’s annoying.

Meanwhile, I have teammates who can’t heal, and so they’re too scared to do — well, anything! I’ll be on a hook and see their injured auras. No gens. No healing. Can’t find a teammate. Doing nothing. And then show’s over cuz I’m dead.

Self-Care + Botany or Desperate measure or even both is viable.

Just bring a medkit if you need to self heal. Most of the other items are garbage anyway

When I was going for the escape perkless 8 times achievement I couldn't get other survivors to heal me unless they too were injured and going for that achievement. I'll keep self care in solo q.

    no

seriously though although it's over rated its an incredibly useful perk, sometimes you'll waste more time finding someone than self caring, additionally, waiting on corners and self caring during chase can save your ass if you can pull of a heal, it can be clutch at end game for the gates if no noed, and sometimes I want my own heal points as well!

I had to use it for my challenge though... I'm kidding I brought a medkit and played with 3 perks. But people dont have to use self care to not do gens people just dont bother doing them at all they all want altruism and hide. But that's why iv taken a break cba running the killer for mins and no gens pop to get farmed off hook anyway lol

I saw a Claudette in one game self-caring with Sloppy Butcher. I offered to heal her, but she wouldn't stop self-caring. I had Botany Knowledge, and me and Feng healed Ace, and then myself in the time that it took her to heal.

Though in the last game I wasn't super efficient. I had a med-kit and Botany Knowledge, and could've healed myself faster but let an Adam heal me up. But I figured I'd let him do it anyway. I already did my 3-skill check rift challenge for Claudette.

Honestly self care is more time efficient since it only uses up one person's time rather than 2 people even without a medkit and botany knowledge.

Self care is fine as is but people do need to realize that it by itself is still more time efficient overall

I will say though that if i can someone else heal me I generally let them if we have time for altruism for them or if we are in a hurry for some reason

People who run selfcare should know when to use it and when to not.

I'm not even a big self care user but I can't deny it can be very good if used properly

Self care should be deleted from the game. People need to learn how to play injured, and just do gens. Games are lost because people like to sit in a corner and self care half the time.

Just take a brown med kit and free up a slot that is useful to your teammates. Here Here OP

Tell us more about how much time you save running to the Basement for Pharmacy, or running around half the map to find the last totem for Inner Strength.

I agree that self care is overrated and not necessary, but one of the best features for a solo player is unlimited health States without the need for other people.

If I run Self-Care, I never run it alone. During the challenge I had to use it I also threw on Botany Knowledge and Desperate Measures (sped up the heal speed so much) and I carried a medkit to heal me twice (almost 3 times with addons+efficency boosts from Self-Care and Botany Knowledge).

Yeah, self care for a minute just to get a hit 10 seconds after finishing the self care.

Bring a medkit or yellow medkit with the extra brown charges addon is most of the time enough for a game.. saves you in total of 32 seconds compared to 2 selfcares (Without any slow down perks/addons/statuses).

Also OP didn't mention any of those arguments you just said, you just mentioned them to make self care look better.

Inner strength is also highly underestimated by you, if you find a totem, then do it and save it for later, it's an EIGHT second heal, x4 faster than self care, and can be done at many situations, sure this perk is useless if you don't find a totem, but 70% of the time doing gens is a better time investment than: Get hit, self care, use empathy or bond to tank a hit and self care again.. you just wasted like ATLEAST 100 seconds of time doing that, just do a gen and you control the game way more than simply saving a hook state. (Also logically if you just happen to find a totem and don't waste your time looking for one, and heal, that saves 8 seconds compared to self care that can take up way more time with sloppy, etc..)

I'm not saying self care is useless, heck it's a fine perk in SOME situations, but overdone is never good.

  • Science_Guy
    Science_Guy Member Posts: 2,034

Whoa, slow down there, slugger. If we have to be so serious...

Inner Strength is a fine perk, obviously. Unlike Pharmacy, yes, I'd say it actually is better than Self-Care most of the time. That's not really the point though, the point is that people trash Self-Care for wasting time and then proceed to waste plenty of time themselves trying to get other perks to work for them. And sure, Medikits with 2 heals is *usually* fine.. except if you want to run any other item. Which is hardly unreasonable, since while you can substitute a medikit's effects with perks, you can't replace a flashlight, map, or key.

  • NekoGamerX
    NekoGamerX Member Posts: 5,298

I use it because sometime survivors want to do gens not heal you.

there is a right time to use it and a wrong time but it is a good perk used at the right times.

  • Munqaxus
    Munqaxus Member Posts: 2,752

You do realize that someone healing you takes about half the time Self Care does. So, if 1 person Self Cares and Another does a Gen, that would equal the same amount of gen time as 1 survivor healing another survivor then both doing a Gen.

I guess you can run around with 1 health state and let all Killers be a tier 3 Michael Myers.

  • The_Krapper
    The_Krapper Member Posts: 3,259

Self-care is only good for the endgame when you have no one to heal you and you want to go for a save , other than that scenario you're just wasting time and if you would just find a gen and complete it then let a teammate heal you it's way better because you're not going all the way to a hidden part to heal and you both were right there on an objective anyways, when you run self-care you're trading health states for pallets because while you're hiding someone else is carrying you by running the killer, inner strength or second wind are way better than self-care

I wouldn't go hide halfway across the map. Even at gen, it uses more time to heal someone else and then do a gen than for someone someone selfcare themselves by you. It's been tested that you use less time doing that even without someone must be chased by the killer. I've done it numerous times. The major issues with completing gen first then healing is it obviously notifies the killer and if you are mangled you repair slower anyways. If you heal first or at the same time the killer doesn't know you specifically healed by the gen.

    megswifey Member Posts: 830

It's useful in solo at times, I once tried to get a teammate to heal me and they threw a pallet in my face and ran away from me sooooo... Ill run whatever I have to in order to get BPs lol <3

  • Munqaxus
    Munqaxus Member Posts: 2,752

You are absolutely right. Self Care is faster for Gen progression that letting someone heal you. Inner Strength is not bad but you can't count on it without wasting a slot of a totem finder. Second Wind is even more iffy than Inner Strength. Pharmacy is about as risky as Second Wind (You waste time looking for the Killer Shack or a Box and you run the risk of someone already opening the Killer Shack Box). The only thing better at healing that Self Care is a Med-Kit.

Which running self care with medkot and botany knowledge is very strong honestly

  • FFirebrandd
    FFirebrandd Member Posts: 2,446

I really don't understand all the hate Self Care gets. It is just as time efficient as another Survivor healing you. Maybe more time efficient since you don't have to go run somewhere to find someone to heal you.

Can Self Care get used badly or in bad situations? Sure, but that doesn't make it a bad perk.

  • HellDescent
    HellDescent Member Posts: 4,883

    Nope

  • Munqaxus
    Munqaxus Member Posts: 2,752

You get more gen progression with 1 person self caring and 1 person working a gen compared to 2 people healing then 2 people doing a gen. People saying that having another survivor heal you is better than self care is flat out wrong. It has been proven.

self care is good if your medkit ran out or your teammate didnt finish you. other than that, stop wasting time trying to fully heal from sloppy butcher+nurses calling

I don't run self care often, but there are times I wish I had it. Like if I'm injured and my only fellow survivor left is hooked. I want to save them and could pull off something if healed up, but it's now leave them to die or trade.

  • swager21
    swager21 Member Posts: 1,019

when i started using it i was addicted to self care. took me 50 hours to get the strength to load up a match without self care and i was constantly hiding behind rocks. miss those days but hate them at the same time

  • ShamelessPigMain
    ShamelessPigMain Member Posts: 1,878

To be fair, that's a criticism of play style not the perk. There are plenty of times where I wish I had self-care, since I need to heal up but I can't find any other survivors or they're working on a gen while the killer has pop and I need to go for the save. Self-caring Claudettes in the corner of the map can get face camped into oblivion, but the perk itself isn't that bad.
