DO NOT PUT THIS MATCHMAKING INTO THE GAME

The amount of rank 17-20 players I’ve come across tonight has been painful.

The number of games done in minutes due to just low levelled team mates, camping low rank killers or full red tanks bullying a 20.

Do not put this system into the game or else it’ll ruin it for new players for quiet a while

I have played 4 matches and so have found it to be better.

It does appear to be catching the ones who de rank on purpose and putting them against those of the appropriate skill level. That I find to be a good thing.

It also appears it might also be catching some of these rank 1, 2 and 3 killers aren't really at that skill level. I went against a killer with a rank of 1 that didn't play like someone of that rank. More like a rank 16 or 17 which causes me to wonder how the person got to rank 1 to begin with.

New players will still be placed with new players, as it bases itself on how you play. If you haven't played much, you don't have a lot of experience for it to go off of.

Most of the "questionable" players I go against are low ranks but also have quite a few hours. Those players are just meh players, not new. That and the fact that I play stridor spirit without shame.

Ive played 2 games so far. First was red squad vs rank 17 killer who quit 30 seconds into match. Second was another red team rank 1s and 2s vs rank 20 with 2 hours into the game who was clearly not a rank 20. He sucked but got 1 down and face camped a rank 1 until he died. Seems like I will be losing pips in every game if I keep playing tonight. Great experience so far.

SWF. Many newer players get to rank 1 with the help of 4man swf.

I had such a group myself when I was a beginner and I regret it now, since they were toxic as #########. One of them would run Object, and distract the low rank killer (back then average rank chose your killer, not highest), while I did gens. I didn't lern to loop somewhat until I had about 500hrs. This was over 2 years and 3k hrs ago.

The amount of self caring, urban evading Blendettes against a Sloppy Butcher Legion on red ranks has drastically increased.

    MMR is working.

The weird games are probably killers that rarely play that character and are testing it. I never play hillbilly since his gutting and get full rank 20 squads because mmr never had a chance to collect data.

When i play nurse or deathslinger i get survivors that know what they are doing.

I must commend you on your honesty, it is refreshing. And I couldn't agree more, I was in a similar position to you, i wouldn't say my SWF were toxic as such but as you rightly said they'll try and distract the killer while I sat and did gens. What I think people can forget is it takes virtually no skill to do a gen - you learn quickly how to hit a skill check and all survivors do gens at the same speed; I may be worse at looping just now than you, my decision making may be worse BUT both of us will do gens at the same speed. And same as you as a result I got to red without being able to properly loop, being reliant on a team mate telling me where the killer was at all times, getting protected by my SWF etc etc. It was only when I played solo I actually got good when I had to rely on my own ability and no one else's. Playing as a solo was tjs best thing I ever did.

I fully agree, there are plenty of reds who don't properly know how to play

I've been playing all day, a few hours on killer, and now on survivor, and I'm noticing I'm way more consistently put with people my skill level.

... Maybe you are being put with "rank 20-17s" for the same reason...

Its funny how people are describing what theyre playing with by ranks. Rank does not matter at all, never has. Give your feedback based on how theyre playing not red purple or green.

Ranks are an easy way to describe them. Red ranks are playing really well, green and lower ranks are playing really bad.

This myth that an untapped trove of pro loopers exists at rank 20 is just people drinking the koolaid and snake oil being given to them by the devs.

I found a Dwight at R 19 full meta build and a flashlight that played like a red and even was able to place himself for blind saves.

Some people mess with their files to stay in the low ranks because bullying noobs is fun for them and I suspect many that are against MMR fit this type.

It's just a test, chill. I for one can tell you it's already an improvement from a year ago.

Played about 5 hours of survivor as part of a 2-person SWF tonight, played 4 killer rounds prior to that. My experience:

-- The survivor rounds felt almost unfair at times. My friend and I normally do pretty good (we were both Red Rank coming into the night) -- there's nights we get creamed, and other nights we have high escape rates. Tonight was a high escape night. Most of our matches had two things in common -- two teammates who were clearly a lot more inexperienced then we were (not just in rank, but in the way they played), and killers who seemed completely overmatched. I'm not a great looper by any stretch of the imagination, but I was able to loop a few killers better and more consistently than I have ever done before. There were multiple matches where I escaped without being downed, and that's not common at all for me. I pipped up almost two full ranks tonight (barely a Rank 4 to start to almost Rank 2 now). There WERE a few matches where we faced off against killers who were much tougher -- in those, we tended to have teammates who were capable, and those matches it seemed like MMR was working the way it was intended.

-- The killer rounds ... errr ... were a different story. I'm been a Rank 1 killer (currently Red Rank), but I'm nowhere near as good as that would suggest. But I am definitely more than competent, and I've consistently done well more often than not playing killer. Playing The Pig -- who I'm the best with -- I ended up at Pallet City (The Game) and ran up against survivors who ... ran away from pallets into dead zones to get downed. Ended up with a 4K, even though I was a little rusty playing killer and played like a potato myself at times. 2nd match as The Trapper, who I play occasionally and am decent with, I ended with a 3K -- the survivors made a horrible blunder at the end, or else they probably could have all escaped. The ranks suggested inexperience, and it showed at the finale. 3rd match as The Plague, who I almost never play. Survivors seemed equally inexperienced, but they still seemed to be a skill level below me -- I ended up with a easy 4K, and probably the easiest match I've ever had as her. 4th match was as The Doctor, who I'm more than decent with. Survivors sent me to Hawkins (which didn't help them), and it was a slaughter. Another 4K against survivors who seemed to be in over their heads. Again, small sample size here, but the match with The Plague was the only one that felt close to what MMR should be doing, and even that match seemed to be unbalanced -- the other three, I definitely felt like the matches were FAR easier than what I'm used to facing.

Again, my brief experiences only, for reference.

My matches have felt more relaxing. No sweating for a kill.

But I think it's best to ignore the ranks. Had some decent rank 19 SWF that were fully decked. So obviously people that depiped on purpose.

    Thanks!

I also played solo or duo later and still prefer it over 3 or 4 man swf. That's just so easy.

My starting swf was not just toxic (I consider Object as toxic), but they also had conditions. I was only allowed to unhook with We'll Make It or only in an emergency when none of them could go, and when I wanted to do the adepts for Laurie and David they said that I should stop trying it, because I was dying a lot. (I did them anyway lol)

And when I started to watch good players on YouTube or twitch, I never played with them again, because I realised how bad I actually was for a rank 5-4. I was watching Monto, Oh Tofu and Tru3 a lot. That helped with getting better or find nice builds.

Well, I just got a game where high ranks were just trolling and doing nothing the whole game because they want to decrease their mmr level to get games where they can just steamroll the killer. So that's a new thing with MMR.

That's a thing with the old rank-based MM too. De-pipping to drop ranks so you don't face red ranks.

If this goes live, people will have an incentive to increase their rank for BP, which in turn should end up increasing their MMR.

You can't judge how this SBMM is working based on ranks, because ranks are specifically what they're invalidating. You can be red rank and be #########, or you can be yellow and play perfectly. The idea behind the new MMR is that this skill is measured independently from rank, whether or not it works as advertised...

The problem with rank based MM, is how inconsistent the ranks are. Currently it looks a bit like this:

20-18 = have played less than 6 matches in total, brand new to the game. (about 20% of the playerbase)

17-5 = can literally be anything from brand new, to moderately experienced, with a few experts as outliers. (about 40% of the playerbase)

4-1 = can literally be anything from moderately experienced, to godlike expert looper, with a few hackers as outliers. (about 40% of the playerbase and the only people who play after 9pm)

    Sometimes it's a smurf account.

I use one as well but more on the killer side to properly learn a new killer. Rank 5 ist just not good to learn at

I played multiple games as survivor and killer and have gotten matched pretty good tbh. Survivor matches ended up as 1k-2k and killer matches ended up clean 2k.

However I feel killer matches are harder since its almost even skill. When there's a weak link its easy to tilt game in killers favor when 3 good and 1 weak survivor.

I think killer rank is based on kills and time played. I saw 2 nurses back to back. One was okay, but with NOED and the other was a decent rank 12 with a good meta build. I feel NOED is inflating the skill cap a bit thus putting killers in a slightly higher skill group.

Ever considered that you are matched with them based on that you usually contribute to the game?

  • LapisInfernalis
    LapisInfernalis Member Posts: 4,218

Totally agree. I see so many red ranks with 300hrs or less now. When I started 2.5 years ago, red ranks had about 1k hrs minimum and R1s had even more. Old rank reset was so much better.

I have played both roles and it works fine. I'm decent with Myers and I got decent Survivors as well in the 2 matches I played with him. I also tested it with killers I don't play often and I felt treated well so far. Even with Nurse, and I'm maybe average with her. Only the match with Oni was a bit bad for the Survivors. Although I played oni about 10 times until now. That was 1 out of 7.

Survivor was OK as well, at least with soloq. Swf was strange, but that might be because they were more inexperienced players than me.

    Complete opposite reaction to mine.

Teammate quality has improved substantially, in every match I've played so far at red ranks. Loving the matchmaking so hopefully it does get put in permanently, with some tweaks of course. But my experience is definitely a positive one. Not having to worry about what my teammates are doing for a large part, is satisfying as hell. People are just more efficient overall and its great when the team makes the killer actually have to sweat.

i dont think MMR or whatever you call it is a good idea. I dont want it to be more Esport than it is right now , why ? look at fifa , fortnite , rocket league ... we complain for our (toxic comunity) take few minutes to watch their comunity .... its a LOT more toxic . AND I WANT to have FUN at the game , wich i dont have with mmr on.

I played legion during the test. I'm not good with him I was just playing him for daily which was just to apply the mending to 4 survivors. I'm rank 14 killer got matched with all yellows. They were really annoying survivors. Someone went on a gen right when they got off the hook. I knew they had ds so I was trying to lunge at them instead of grabbing them off the gen but I still somehow grabbed them off. I tried it as solo. I got paired with yellow rank and gray ranks when I'm rank 8. One of them kept fast vaulting a window where I was trying to do a gen. Letting michael stalk them and then killing themselves on first hook. The killer was rank 20. The second game as solo I got matched with two other purples and one rank 20. It was a bubba who was yellow rank. I saw he did try to attempt at moonwalking but I was able to see where he was going. I got my first hook after the exit gate was opened because I kinda forgot where it was but I knew it was near. I was shocked he didn't face camp me but instead was trying to force the other survivors out. I got saved and we all made it out. Then I tried it as a swf. Two green ranks, one red rank, and me purple. First game was yellow rank doctor who was focused on my friend whos red rank. Second game was a rank 1 nurse who was so good. Then we got a rank 20 oni. Then the red rank had to go. The random we got matched was rank 17 who did nothing. The killer was rank 17 legion who didn't know what they were doing. The random kept hiding in lockers even though the killer had iron maiden. Honestly I already see rainbow ranks when I play killer

Everything is more toxic than DBD, even World of Tanks.

If this rating works, I'm fine with that. Finally I can play killers I don't use very often without being stomped.

You know that current ranking is just bad? Over 2 years ago the rank reset was an actual reset. You were rank 1?now you're rank 10 again. A red rank player had usually 1k hrs or more, not like all those people with just 200hrs.

I want that back and not all of these self caring and urban evading Blendettes.

with MMR , Solo Q is almost impossible , 15 games in the morning 50% exit rate for me ,15 games 0 exit in the afternoon, where it is fair ?

what this mean ? Casual gamers will begin to leave or go in swf . at this time = less players . more SWF means more killers leave the game ... so less players again and now you got a game who start to die GG .

how to keep playerbase ? make 2 game mode 1 with MMR for esport or whatever you call it

and 1 mode with old rank system more adapted for Solo Q (casual) and everyone is happy. at least give it a shot for a few weeks , BHVR knows how to do it because we are their beta testers XD .

Somehow the system worked for me. I'm used to die a lot since it's my playstyle to be altruistic in the endgame.
