Key won't open Hatch in main building of Father Campbell's Chapel

I was in a normal (ranked) match, I burned Vigo's Blueprint and brought the Dull Key (Very Rare) with Weaved Ring add-on (don't lose key on death). With 3 survivors alive and 4 completed gens (last gen was completed in main building), I ran to the hatch in the main building and I couldn't open it with the key (the option to open it with key wasn't available and pressing M1 doesn't do anything). The hatch was near the center of the main building. I was being chased by a huntress at the time but that shouldn't matter because I've opened hatches in-chase before. Please fix, thanks.

Was there any rubble or anything spawning around the hatch - I'm wondering if that could have been preventing the prompt from showing.
