hatch stand-off

3 survivors dead hatch is open I get there first but they brought a key

  • if I hit them they get intangibility and get hatch
  • if I close hatch the game moves me out of the way and they use key (survivor using key forcibly pushes killer out of the way)
  • if I wait I waste both players time and accomplish nothing

any ideas on what to do next time this comes up? like yeah its uncommon but its not exactly rare either so Id like to know what should be done

also why did they remove the hatch grab thing? like I see no reason we shouldnt be able to grab them from hatch like before

I already have been on a situation like this. I took my time and get out to make a sandwich and get some soda, then I open a youtube video and watched for a couple of minutes. When I was ready, I closed the hatch and immediately stand right over it, the Kate didn't have time to react, and died to ECG.

If you are the killer, you can do whatever you want and the survivor will have to be alert, so you have this going for you.

If they're healthy you can't do anything.

If they have a key during an open hatch stand off, you can only win if they're injured and even then it's hard. Shut the hatch and spam m1, hope you hit them before you give space for them to use their key.

But honestly if 3 are dead 1 is healthy, finds the hatch AND has a key just let em go knowing there wasn't anything you could do.

Edit: But CLOSE THE HATCH regardless, that way they don't keep the key for free.

Yup, nothing you can do. The killer can even stand on it and the survivor can still open it. Another reason keys are absurd. I really HOPE they make an animation for it, like a 5-10 second animation of opening it and escaping.

That way if the killer is near it or finds you, you can't just get out for free.

The key nerf coming in 2025 should address this

But yeah, nothing you could really do in the moment there. I think hatch grab was removed after they added the ability to close hatch so as to prevent hatch standoff moments

No, they can. They can't jump in it if it's open but they can use a key to open it no matter where you stand.

Well, I had more than a ocasion where this happened and the survivor was running around me with a key and didn't escape, and I don't think they died on purpose

I've had this situation in a kyf just to see if I could block a key the same as blocking the hatch... It didn't work. If I stood center they could use it from any side, if I stood closer to any side that was a the only side they couldn't use.

Weird, now I starting to doubt myself. Gonna try tomorrow with my switch account and my PC

Mine was on ps4. I've always assumed it wouldn't matter. If you find something different please let me know.

Oh yes, there's nothing better than seeing a survivor freeze in front of a closed hatch because they realized too late they're not holding the key anymore 🤭

Basically what you want to do is stand halfway on top of the hatch and halfway off the hatch near the handle after its closed, since you can block the hatch by standing on it and if you position yourself right, you will get pushed into the right area to block the key after its closed (the key zone is not actually on the hatch like jumping in it is, but in front of the hatch by the handle).

Then you just wait until EGC kills them, if they try to bait you away from the hatch just always keep an eye on them but make sure to stand between the survivor and the hatch, if they open a door stand close and make them afraid of grabs so that they can't open the gate in time.

(This is the spot to block keys btw)

If you see a key dodge the lobby.
