Pig mains, I need your advice 🐷

My friend bought me the Saw chapter during this sale and I'm so happy because Pig is the only other killer I've really wanted that I don't have 😭

But I uh, I have no idea where to start so I need some mega Pig advice? I've never played a stealth killer before (I main Plague and Hag) so any and all guidance would be much appreciated :3

I’m not a pig main, but some advice that I can give that I see many pigs do that can mess them up is using your crouch too much. Yes, it is a very good tool in your arsenal, but the slowdown you get makes your map presence a bit small. I suggest, and this is what I do, if you know where survivors are, don’t crouch until you are in terror radius distance and don’t crouch after every engagement cause that can make you predictable and survivors will keep their guard up more than if you were to seemingly be random with your crouches.

The best advice I can give you without getting too into it is to not overuse your crouch. Only use the crouch ability when you know exactly where survivors are, use it as an ambush.

This will work well with tracking perks that lets you see survivors on gens, or nurses calling (with sloppy for good measure).

i am a piggy main and i can give you advice. first use survelliance. that perk is gold, use stbfl. and whatever two perks you like. now, use the traps to slow down the game, ignore if there are 5 gens or not. their only use is to slow the game. don't use her crouch nor ambush. also crouch when a survivor is going to rescue, slug the hooked person and chase the rescuer. this will help you with the time. if you want to use the crouch, i recommend you use whispers. use tier 2 if possible, or if you see someone in a box with bbq. there isn't much else i can tell you, hope this helps you. good luck

Dont waste your traps early. Because that will make you lose possibly. Keep one of them before last gen. Use it before last gen finish. So that will make one of the survivors stay in match. I am not playing as Pig so much, that is best i can give you.

  • pigsaag
    pigsaag Member Posts: 206

that won't work. you won't down everyone when there is one gen left. at best, three gens.

I unfortunately don't have I'm All Ears but it sounds like it would be super good on her with her ambush. I'll definitely keep all this in mind about ambushing.

Okay ty for all of this. Unfortunately I don't have stbfl I know it's really good on Pig tho bcuz of her ambush special attack ><

I'm super excited to use surveillance, I was thinking of pairing it with pop since I have that and, surveillance only works on gens you've kicked, right?

Does crouching when they unhook someone disable BT? If you did it fast enough for your terror radius to shrink that is

  • pigsaag
    pigsaag Member Posts: 206

if you have oppression, use it with survelliance. and yes, you can try to predict if he is going to rescue. but be careful, don't stand at middle down animation, otherwise bt will activate. wait until you see the survivor touching the ground. also i forgot to mention, when you are near someone in the crouch, stand instead of using the ambush. it's faster and you will get an easy hit or even a grab if the survivor is distracted.

    *takes notes*

Okay one last question, what add ons do you recommend for her?

  • pigsaag
    pigsaag Member Posts: 206

personally none. i don't use add ons. they are meh. but if you have the tape, use it. that prevents survivors from seeing the boxes. but for a novice, i suggest the ones that allows you to put traps faster and crouch faster. there isn't much else. oh and don't use the notes, unless you enjoy having one trap only.

i don't recommend hexes in general. and i don't recommend ambush personally. but this is a more detailed tips. good job.

Do former Pig mains count? I do have some tips for her.

    • I recommend using your RBTs as soon as possible to get the best early-game, one that is nice and slow.
    • You can use your ambush as a counterloop ability, though this doesn't work all the time, one of the reasons being survivors can just run away. We'll get to that one later.
    • Don't rely on crouching too much, use it whenever you feel it's necessary!
    • For Pig's anti-loop, survivors can leave when you crouch near it. You can counter this by faking your crouch by crouching then standing back up, and maybe you can get a free hit!

I reckon you'll be a master oinker without a doubt!

As a (mostly) Pig main, I'll offer the following:

-- As others have said, don't overuse your crouch. You move so slowly with it, you can't use it to get across the map. When you're nearing a gen that has someone working on it, crouch while approaching from an angle you're hidden from them, then use the ambush attack.

-- Don't be afraid to use your traps early and often. They're meant to be a slowdown -- nothing worse than having traps left when the last gen pops. They'll do no good at that point, so use them while you can. A survivor who's trapped is one likely not working on a gen.

-- You likeky will need some gen regression in your loadout. One of Corrupt/Ruin/Pop should be in your build. As pointed out, Surveillance is actually pretty good on her, especially paired with Ruin. As far as add-ons go, the Combat Straps are arguably her best (reducing crouch time, and it's a common). The Video Tape (reduced Ambush charge time and cooldown when you miss) and the Last Will (extra RBT) are good to run as well. Looking for a Trap kill? Tampered Timer + Crate of Gears is deadly -- survivors won't know unless they're super perceptive, and if the key is in the last box, it's impossible to get a trap off.

-- Speaking of trapped survivors, don't chase them. If you run across someone on a box naturally, you down them, obviously, but chasing a survivor with a trap that isn't active is a recipe for losing gens and the match.

-- Using the ambush attack in chase is underrated and not used enough by Pig players to land hits on loops. Camping a pallet then dash attacking is awesome and worth practicing.

As a Pig player who's reached Rank 1 before, hope some of this helps! 🙂

I used to main Pig and I think that she is very intuitive to play, in a way that you can get her and immediately start doing good without much practice. The only trick that I think that is not so obvious is to use your crouch and dash attack to do some mindgames on loops. The dash is only useful on small loops, while crouching can be used to hide your red glow and presence on some bigger loops like killer shack.

Other than that, the only other advice that I can give her is in relation to builds. As for add-ons, I like Last Will, Tempered Timer, Bag and Crate of Gears, Face Mask, Combat Straps, John's Medical File and the one that makes bear traps give mangled. These are all fine. I like Rule Set N 2 as well, but some people say it's bad so it's my thing. On the other hand, people like using Jigsaw's Sketch and Jigsaw's Masterplan, while I am not a big fan of.

A for perks, I like using Pop Goes The Weasel, Discordance, Brutal Strength and Thanatophobia. Sometimes I switch Brutal Strength for Corrupt Intervention, since it's good to get someone to have a Bear Trap on before the first gen pops. Some people also like using Whispers and STBFL but I just think that Discordance is a better overall information perk and I don't like using chase perks.

In order to play Pig better you must learn the way of the boop. Empty your mind and imagine a snoot now boop it, now repeat this thought until you reach enlightenment for that is the path towards Pig mastery.

Thank you so much for the detailed advice!!

And thank you to everyone else you're all awesome squeee 🐽

Can't wait to start playing her. One of the reasons she's always intrigued me is that the RBTs are a slow down mechanic which is always appreciated with how fast games can go lol

Since you played mainly hag and plague, you're used to being methodical as a killer I assume. Pig is also extremely methodical in a different way. Hag needs to create a good web so she can end chases quickly, plague needs to infect survivors quickly and adapt to their decisions (will they cleanse? Will they stay injured? Should I drink from the fountain rn? Are they trying to deplete all pools quickly?). Pig has a different playstyle. Your job is to use mind games and occasionally her dash (it's not that strong, but pro pigs can pull some insane plays off) to get quick downs. After you down someone you need to predict the gen progress. If survivors work on gens, put a trap on their head to slow the game, so they'll be forced to search chests. Usually they won't bother to heal with sloppy or with any perk/addon that slows healing time, so they're easy targets. But, you don't really need to chase them. They're useless, they're forced to search boxes. If you see someone trying to search a box, scare them, down them, it won't hurt. But you're focusing the one guy who isn't progressing the game. So the traps are her main slowdown because they temporary remove a player from the game. You could go the extra route and equip tempered timer with either slower chest searches or +1 jigsaw boxes so you can have an easy bear trap snap, or equip add-ons for your lunge to make it semi-decent.

At least, that's how I play pig :p

Dont tunnel trapped Survivors because they are not working on gens but if they happen to run into you or you see them in a box and they refuse to leave it go smack them, its free pressure even if you dont hook them.

When you down someone look if there are any nearby boxes where you are going to hook, if there are 2 maybe try to hook farther away or even dont use the RBT in that scenario for he could get unhooked and get the RBT removed very fast.

Dont abuse the crouch, while it gives you stealth it also slows you down a lot and restricts pressure, something Jigsaw already lacks so use it on loops or when you have positive confirmation someone is somewhere.

Ignore this, traps stall the game and help you reaching that last gen slower, especially if there are several trapped Survivors at once for they block eachother at boxes.

Basically these two comments summarize all you need to know. Watch scorpionz's guide, try to avoid using gen regression perks (as you have already a built in slowdown), don't abuse your crouch and use your dash at unsafe loops (and even safe ones)

    NMCKE Member Posts: 8,242

    Reverse Bear Traps (RBTs):

    • They are used to slow down survivors and keep them off of objectives, buying you time to go after other survivors who aren't trapped — maximizing how many survivors aren't progressing the game.

Example: 3 Survivors, 1 Trapped Survivor

You don't want to chase the trapped survivor (unless they are being careless) because they have to take off the trap instead of doing generators.

Good: 2 Survivors, 1 Chased Survivor, 1 Trapped Survivor

Bad: 3 Survivors, 1 Trapped Survivor that's being chased

You can see, the good scenario has more survivors occupied than the bad one.

    • If you can manage to get close enough to a survivor while crouching, don't ambush — Uncrouch and attempt to grab them from whatever they are doing. Ambushing is loud, giving experienced survivors time to run away or using their exhaustion perks.

i cant give you any advice, but heres a nice build:

    monitor and abuse

    stbfl

    whispers

any gen perk you like: ruin/corrupt/pgtw

I don't agree with this, personally. If by coincidence you have a trap to spare at one gen left, okay, but deliberately saving it for that point is both not as great a payoff as one would hope and a gamble that could result in one of your Traps going to waste if the gen pops before you get the Trap on. You really want to grind the game to a halt as soon as possible to get the snowball going, so the more players you can force to search the boxes sooner, the better.

wait for a buff that's my advice.

Traps are too weak and not enough to slow down gen progress

I can't really say anything that isn't already said or covered in the linked Scorpionz guide, but I can give you some advice on when to place RBTs.

1st RBT- first down, unless you got that down extremely quickly, you have bbq, and there is a hook 3 feet in front of you.

2nd RBT- Kind of difficult to judge, but use it when either you are sure a generator is about to pop, or if a generator has already popped.

3rd RBT- Use it like you would your second. My rule of thumb is to never have more than two survivors with party hats on at once.

4th RBT- If you have one RBT left, keep it in your pocket until everyone currently wearing an inactive one has gotten theirs off. You can be flexible with this, though.

I'm not sure if this is the best method but it's a strategy I've used in the past to get 25 4ks in a row with Piggy.

    I consider myself a PigMain.

As a first advice: Respect boop the snoot! XD

So I've gotten as far as the red ranks with her, and I'm doing pretty well with the fact of using whispers so I can time my sneaking well.

You've gotten a lot of good tips here, and all I can say is try them out. Learn how far you can get with their sneak attack, how well you can maneuver with it. Use it only when it's worth it. If you want to try it out and just attack for a test, take Amanda's letter with you.

Use the traps wisely. If you know all survivors are nearby and not working on generators, then downe and wait with the RBT. Use them in the middle part of the game rather than at the beginning.

And please don't become one of those piggies who chase and possibly tunnel people with RBT activated. That makes absolutely no sense. This survivor won't touch your beloved generators unless he has a death wish.

Did I mention that you should definitely respect boop the snoot? <3

Oh, as Perks I take on her mostly:

    Whisper

    dying light

    BBQ (for the points)

    corrupt

Pig main here, first off don't use much of crouching unless ur 70% sure you can mindgame that loop, next is perks don't use to much gen slow down perks on pig because pig is itself slow down killer because of traps pressure rather use more powerful add ons to make pressure on surv and save perk slots for perks that helps u in chases or perks that gives away survs location and last tip is pig has very small gen control so I would really reccomend bbq

One thing people haven't really gone over is how your crouch ability and red stain interact. Every time you crouch, your terror radius fades in and out. This means that you don't have a red stain during the crouch and standing animations. So there are many situations where it's worth it to just crouch and immediately stand back up without even going for a dash. It just hides your red stain for a few seconds. It's often enough to throw survivors off and get you a hit.

Also, don't overuse your dash. The absolute best case scenario out of your dash is a single health state of damage. You also tip off Sprint Burst users with the roar. If you stand up and go for an M1, you get the same amount of damage with the possibility of a grab if they're on a gen or unhooking.

  • ShamelessPigMain
    ShamelessPigMain Member Posts: 1,878

Don't crouch too much; it slows you down to slower than the survivor. If you have whispers, or any other method of tracking (or if you're approaching a generator), then start crouching. You want to only crouch when you want the element of surprise.

The best perks for stealth killers are usually tracking perks, so they can approach them in stealth. BBQ, Discordance, etc. are all good.

Don't use your ambush when you could use your M1. Ambush is best for short loops, like rocks; crouch out of LoS, and then ambush from an unexpected direction. You can even moonwalk and strafe while ambushing.

Don't use all of her hats at once. Think of them as ways to drag out the game; if you're under a lot of pressure, the generators are going to fly, you want to put on a lot of hats to take those survivors out of commission for a while. Only use them to stall the game if generator pressure is too high. I usually apply one hat for the first down I get, and then save them until I get to three generators, at which I add one by one. If generator progress is too fast, I'll smack them on anybody I find.

In general, she's going to be a normal M1 killer. You want to chase normally, use your ambush when you're at short loops without LoS. Otherwise, go into stealth when you think you're approaching a survivor.

Her best add-ons are the combat straps. They make crouching and un-crouching faster. The skillcheck add-ons are pretty bad, syringe, medical file, and the video tape enhance your ambush nicely but you won't be using your ambush much, the ones that cause a status debuff aren't that great (other than exhaustion and blindness), but the last will is pretty good. One extra trap is always welcome.

Jigsaw's annotated plan is a pretty good add-on. It adds a box, but extends the trap's timer. Remember, you don't want to get kills with the bear traps, you just want to delay them, and having more boxes means that they now may have to search 5 boxes. The crate and bags of gears aren't great, but the slowdown of box searching time is a nice passive. Amanda's secret isn't great, but if you're having trouble finding survivors, it'll give you good info. Tampered timer isn't great, since it just makes traps more lethal, not time-consuming, but jigsaw's sketch is great. I usually run crate and bag of gears or jigsaw's sketch and annotated plan.

Amanda's letter isn't great. It requires you to significantly change up your play style, but if you can successfully adapt, it's pretty great wall hacks. Rule set no. 2 is pretty awful. It tries to make traps more deadly, which again, isn't what you want.

Omg of course! I've booped before and had the good graces of a benevolent Pig so I won't disrespect that xD

I REALLY don't like to tunnel / camp people so I'm also excited to use Make Your Choice with her since it encourages leaving hook / going for others. I LOVE Whispers so I think I'll love it on her if you say so. Sadly I don't have as many Killer perks as I do Survivors (I usually play Survivor) so I'll have to work on that some.

But yesss, I'll def try to not tunnel ppl with a bear trap. That just seems scummy ;u; I wanna be jump scare Pig LOL

Yes, I like to stalk too. XD If I'm up for a fun round, sometimes I just crouch behind the survivors when they don't notice me and watch them. XD I think sometimes they get really nasty scares.

I hope you have fun with the piggy. <3

If you wanna go for gen grabs moniter and abuse Goes great with whispers as when whisper clicks on you can crouch and they wont hear your terror radius at all.

I personally love the pig dash, i like running medical file and video tape to double speed up dash charge and make it almost instant.

Also check out dowsey on youtube he did an hour of pig with 5 different builds lots of neat little tricks in there.

people already posted a lot of advice, including scorpionz tutorial, which is probably the best thing you could watch.

    but just my 2 cents.

rule of thumb when I play pig, 2 traps on heads.

if you down more people. don't put traps on them. 2 "active" traps is more than enough to do their job.

also, keep track of who reached stage 2 on hook, so you don't waste traps on them
