Is it oke to quit out a game if survivors spamclick you really fast while being a epileptic
Comments

it just sounded sketchy to me like that they were specifically talking about flashlights when there are a good amount of maps with awful light flickering no need to be a ######### (:

Real life health consequences for a game are never worth it.
You don't have to justify a dam thing to anyone in game for that.
2 -
I wonder how hard it would be for the devs to add a delay between flashlight clicks so it doesn't get as absurd as it does now. I never thought about it causing seizures and that is something they should really look into.

The irony of this statement

Flashlight clicking is going to be the least of your concerns if you're an epileptic. Actually being blinded itself is much worse because the animation itself has flashing lights, while the clicking is gradual or rather small.
1 -
Again the killer has control over what they see more than what they hear, you see a blind coming and you can look away from screen or close your eyes, cant close your ears, or take your headphones off/mute the game nearly as quickly.
2 -
According to devs. No. Its a penalty no matter what. I hate it.
1 -
The problem is if you have to buy dlc for a game and put yourself at a big disadvantage just to play it maybe you shouldn't be playing it.
If someone told me I had to play a game with a big disadvantage or be at risk of having a seizure I certainly wouldn't be playing it.
1 -
They literally asked is it ok to quit out or is their something I could do and I'm telling them its probably just better to quit out.
2 -
Realise i only asked if its oke to quit out when people stroboscope spam flashlights. wich i might add is only done to be toxic anyways.
i never said it was a personal attack on me. nor did i treat it as such. please don't reflect your issues on my question....
2 -
when they dont strobe the flashlight there are no issues. and strobing it isn't really "part of the game" since it has no use....
i am not complaining about regular clicking the flashlight or using it normally :)
2 -
yes i had actually taken a break from the game for a while, and now i plan to just back out of lobbies where there are flashlights to avoid it asmuch as i can.
1 -
To those who are helping think of solutions : thank you
For those who say "don't play the game" : yes i quit out when it happens. since its a rare occurance. people don't strobespam to often.. but it should not be a thing to begin with. removing strobing has no effect on gameplay
For the few asking about flickering on other maps : i usually look away from the flickers. i can control this. i can't control someone strobing in my face with a flashlight :)
For the question about sound. its less of a issue for me, i am less sound sensative eventho it has happened with other games. the main issue here for me is the strobe effect
The suggestion about the perks : franklins would be a option. lightborn not. since the light itself isn't the issue. the strobe effect is
Those who suggest putting a delay on flashlights. : this might actually be the best solution. to stop strobing you don't need a big delay. 0.1 maybe 0.2 seconds would probably stop strobing alltogether. but stil allow regular clicking and regular use of a flashlight.
All in all. i have decided to just take breaks whenever i do get a seizure, and try to dodge flashlights for now... hoping the devs adress the issue in the future. because we all just want to have fun and play together,
i will try to answer any questions i can regarding this to... sorry for having not replied before this since i had to take a break

Survivors find flashlight clicking fun. People buy DBD to play survivor, people boot up DBD to play survivor, people buy cosmetics for survivor - this is all evident in the numbers. So no there won't be any changes. Survivor fun always comes first and foremost above everything in this game, even killer bug fixes.

I'd say it's time to find another game.
It pains me to say that because you seem like a nice guy and all. But I can't condone quitting in the face of that because it just encourages trolls to do it more, but I'm not about to say risk your health and deal with it either.

honestly i would but i already lack games both my bf and i enjoy.... i really just cant understand why strobing is even a thing ;-;
1 -
You always have to put your health first, I hate DCers, but I give you a pass.
If you can get them, facecamp or tunnel them out, that's even better.
1 -
Of course it is ok to quit if your health is on the line.
1 -
It kinda sucks you'll get a DC penalty, cause yes: I fully support this DC.
If IRL emergencies are a good reason to DC, then this would surely be included.
1 -
This is actually a really serious accessibility issue that the devs need to address.
4 -
I wonder if theres a way the devs could change flashlight beams to prevent this. Maybe an options menu toggle.
I heard the police lights on Haddonfield can have a similar effect.
3 -
Niether do most of us to be honest. Given the flashlight's limited battery and the fact it annoys so many people (and it's a good way to attract attention), the behavior seems to be encouraged by both the game's design and human nature.
Frankly, I would be opposed to a 1 second cool down between clicks myself.
0 -
Whether or not you'd be opposed to it doesn't matter. What matters is that it literally can affect the health of some players. That far, far, outweighs the 'strategy' of flashlight clicking & there needs to be a way to bring this problem to the devs so that they can figure out a way to implement a fix to this strobe effect.

That was my intent - I will admit I probably should of worded that differently. I apologize.
1 -
This is probably my favorite response here. Instead of telling the poor guy to quit a game he likes, you offer him advice instead with the best one being to dodge lobbies with flashlights.
1 -
Yes, absolutely quit if they do this and you have problems with seizures.
No game has a higher value than your own health.
Stay safe and take care of yourself. 💕
1 -
Ah! Sorry to jump to being so harsh then, I just work IRL in an environment where we have to be really mindful of accessibility standards, so I take this kind of thing really seriously and got a bit agitated by a lot of the responses ignoring how serious of an issue this really is.
4 -
No, the solution would be simple. If someone turns on their flashlight, turns it off, and then back on in less than 1 second, there will be a 1-2 second delay before it lights up again. Epilepsy is about the speed of flashes, and im not sure what the flash rate threshold is to be safe, but they can make it so the flashies can't toggle quickly.
1 -
Takes about 20 flashes a second for most people with photo-sensitivity epilepsy to get a response based on my own quick research on the issue. Although personally, just give it a half second cool-down between the on and off's just based on my own layman's research on it.
I think our best path forward is just asking BE to look into it as a possible concern we have and they can consult with the medical professionals on it. And we can reduce another annoyance at the same time.
3 -
This^, I opened a support ticket with them to highlight the issue and to direct them toward this thread, since it's on their own forums. But other people reaching out might be a good idea as well. I'm assuming that they just didn't know it was a potential issue, since it's easy to not know about if you personally don't have any experience with epilepsy.
2 -
Good info, that's perfect. .5 second delay is very reasonable
1 -
it is a good response. and was good advice ^.^
"not a he tho" XD

sounds like you should permanently have that anti flashlight perk on
1 -
I had a survivor do this when i was carrying someone to a hook and f me it was one of the most annoying things i have had to deal with.
They died... i made sure they died.

I love people like you. Why shouldn't the op play videogames? The flashlight spam is absolutely not necessary for the game and it is usually bm. No one is craving attention here. No one can know they have epilepsy, but there is still no need for the flashlight spam and it should be removed in a way or another.
Nowdays, if someone has a medical issue and they raise awarness about accessibility problems with a game they like, it is called craving attention.
3 -
the perk dosn't work vs strobing a flashlight. the blinding effect is not the issue
3 -
Disconnecting is - and should be - fine. You reasons are your own, and even more so if they are health issues. The DC penalty is ridiculous and should go. Players who are like "you should keep playing or get a penalty" are similar to college kids who can't get a 'no' mid-date - "you're ruining our fun!" and, later on, will apply the 'penalty' by saying things about the girl who changed her mind.

BHVR should limit flashlight clicking based on how fast they can do it irl with one hand so it's more realistic instead of assuming every human has the fastest fingers in the west.

TY this made me laugh so hard xD
