The DS nerf revealed the real issue
No one runs Obsession perks because there aren’t very many of them and most of them are bad, situational or just average.
Soul Survivor and Mettle of Man are meme tier pretty much unusable.
Object is high risk and doesn’t suit most Survivors’ playstyles.
Decisive Strike and For the People are inconsistent (and always have been). So sometimes they’ll be game changing and other times they’ll be like running three perks all game.
Blood Pact is an underrated Aura perk that’s comparably to Empathy and Aftercare. But hard to justify over the current meta perks because its just average.
Basically, we need a lot of the current Obsession Perks buffed to be more appealing and probably the Obsession Mechanic added to more perks (maybe Deliverance, Unbreakable, Soul Guard, Babysitter, Second Wind, Head On, Smash Hit etc.)

As killer the only real obsession perk is STBFL. Unless the killer is running rancor there is almost zero negative to being the obsession.

They should add an obsession every game regardless of perks and then add legitimate mechanic around it, like how Dying Light works.

I feel like overhauling, buffing and reworking the Obsession perks would be more beneficial than adding a default mechanic to the game that messes with the Survivor/Killer balance even more outside of perks.

I wouldn't say DS became inconsistent with the nerf as it helps me when I need it if I'm getting tunneled. Ideally, I don't ever need to activate it nor any of my teammates. The fact itself that I had a game where no DS triggers even if everyone has it means there was no hard tunneling present which is worth a perk slot to ensure.
Besides games where my teammate gets tunneled through DS basically having 4 hooks and we can't finish gens are already lost anway if they can't stall the killer enough and just go down instantly each time. Even if they had 2 DSes, it wouldn't help as such teammtes just need to improve their looping.
All that said, I'm not againt buffing weaker obsession perks or adding obsession baseline as it's one of the buffs I would like solos to get.

Mettle of Man and For the people useless.... you are a troll or you just dont know how to use it.

I’d argue dark devotion is actually pretty decent too
5 -
If Dark Devotion was changed slightly it would be good. I don't like the idea that you have to hit your obsession then break off. Hoping you sneak up on another person. You break off a chase praying you find someone else. Or if you down them, activate DV you still waste half of it to hook them.

Depending on the killer, I often use Rancor or PWYF, usually with Nemesis or Furtive Chase. The latter also doubles as an anti-tunnel perk in itself.

Blood Pact isn't "underrated", its rated exactly as it should be. Let's look at it.
- It only shows you 1 aura, max. No more. Not good.
- The obsession sees you when you see the aura. Still not good.
- Gives a haste to you and the obsession when you heal them or they heal you, completely. Passable but rarely useful.
- The haste only lasts while you are within 16 metres of each other. Not great.
- It deactivates if you are the obsession. Terrible.

On topic: What does this really have to do with the DS change? Its not really any different besides the fact you can't do whatever you want for 60s. Also, I don't even know anyone who ran it due to the fact that it was an obsession perk.
2 -
This relates to the DS nerf because less people running it had caused a lot of tunneltown games without Obsessions. If more Obsession Perks were good, then even with the DS nerf there’d still usually be Obsessions in games without anyone running DS

Just like the only useful hex perk is old ruin.
Dev even need to create a perk like old undying to keep killer to hex perk.
And yes even with that there is still only hex perk that people would want to use.

okay can you explain one scenario where you are able to activate mettle of man without throwing the game? didnt think so
2 -
Yeah, it revealed the real issue.
Survivors never wanted anti-tunneling defence. They wanted OP perks justified by tunneling protection.
I wouldn't be surprised if devs introduce another "anti-X" perk that won't be used to actually fight X, but would just be abused by survivors to get pressure free games and who would protect their new toy at all costs.

Mettle is good with Breakout, Empathy and Dead Hard.
Plus, a Purple Medkit with good addons every single game. To heal up after taking you protection hits so it doesn’t negatively impact your team as much.
Which is fun but not sustainable long term and most people will run out of triple heal medkits pretty quickly since you lose addons every game.

Or it's because tapping a gen after it gets hit with pop is a stupid reason to disable the perk because stopping gen regressing next to a hook you've been on does not mean you aren't being tunneled.

With a sabo build...
0 -
There are literally 3 other survivors who can tap that gen in your place including your rescuer. Your point is irrelevant.
Although I question tapping a gen on a risky save when a pop is in play to begin with. Just seems like a an easy way for the killer to get a free hook state AND 20 seconds regression for such a dumb play anyway.

No it means.

"Decisive Strike and For the People are inconsistent (and always have been). So sometimes they’ll be game changing and other times they’ll be like running three perks all game."
So kinda like running killer Hex perks?
2 -
??
So all three survivors are there to save you and know what progress your gen is on etc?
Relying on your team mates when you're solo to do anything important is a gamble at best so no, my point is not irrelevant.
0 -
They're still you're teammates and it's up to them to pick up the slack. And sometimes they let you down. It sucks, but what you're saying has a viable workaround ergo your point is still irrelevant. Survivor is still a team experience wither you like it or not.
2 -
you still have to use an entire build dedicated to it which still isnt very ideal.
0 -
The person who unhooked you has ample time to tap your gen.
If you have time to tap a gen, you're clearly not in any danger. If you are, why are you tapping gens?
Gens shouldn't be so easily 'tapped' anyway. You undo in an instant what takes a killer 3 seconds to start. There's 1 killer and 4 survivors. There's nothing equal about that. It should take 3 seconds of repair to halt gen regression.
4 -
You felt safe enough to progress your team then you are not being tunnelled.
Gen tapping should not exist anyway, you should be required to put the same time in that the killer took to start regression.
2 -
But then you run a whole build to make a single perk maybe useful lol.

Making builds is the purpose of the game no ?

DS isn't supposed to be consistent. It helps when it should. Survivors don't need those perks buffed except maybe soul survivor. Mettle of man can work but no one can say it can't if no one even tries using it. Some killer obsession perks are even worse. Buff those instead. The survivor ones aren't super weak and anything. Plus the obsession mechanic should be more in the killers favor because... Well just look at it. The KILLER is obsessed with someone. Not the like survivor is obsessed with someone.
1 -
The issue with this post is that it wants a passive perk. The only reason someone wants an Obsession is to make the killer believe there's a perk in play and play around it.
To me thats bad game design.
