Non-Tilted Thoughts On the Freddy Rework?
I wanted to ask people their thoughts on the Rework who aren't just going to say THANK GOD NERF MORE KILLERS HEHE or people who say HE'S UNPLAYABALE NOW WORST KILLER IN THE GAME. I feel like people who say these things either don't fully understand his kit or that he is beatable. I'm going to put some carefully thought out things I've always thought about him and ask what you guys think of it.
First- Freddy is easily the killer with the most features in their base kit bar none. He can teleport to gens which gives him excellent mobility, he can set snares or pallets (the ladder being a bit uncommon and slightly worse) which greatly improves chases at many loops, and he has an entire state survivors can be in that comes with a side effect such as doctor or plague. For this reason many survivor mains complained and killer mains put him on this pedestal. Personally, I think this is all well but he needs to have some kind of debuff in one category to balance him, which is what they did by giving him a movement speed decrease when placing snares. I personally don't think this will make them unusable, I just think it will require the player not to spam blood pools all around a pallet making it an easy hit or down.
Second- Removal of gen slowdown. This seems to be more of a non-issue among most of the community for obvious reason. A killer with insane mobility potential, ways to make chase easier, and is 115% movement speed does not really need something to slow down the game if they're being efficient. Not to mention that these add-ons trumped the need for perk like ruin or thanatophobia, which was very problematic when stacking them together. Absolutely NOBODY should have a good time in a 30 minute match because of insane gen slowdown add ons on top of things like thanatophobia and ruin/pop. This has made infamously long matches, which leads to extremely boring game play. Slow down perks are good for control of a match, but when combined with his most powerful slowdown addons at no cost to his chase or mobility was insanely strong against solo queue survivors and made the matches dreadful to play.
Third- Borrowed Time Shadow Nerf. This honestly shouldn't have been a thing to begin with. Having a killer that makes survivors unable to use their borrowed time and actively encourages proxy or face camping is not only boring gameplay but pretty scummy gameplay as well. I'm not sure about you guys but camping is not how I have a good time in killer matches. Freddy already has a lot of benefits in his kit, he shouldn't need to proxy camp hooks to begin with and immediately down the person who was unhooked to get a kill if played efficiently.
At the end of the day, I do feel for the Freddy mains. It's no fun watching your killer be turned into a weaker version of themselves. As a nurse and Billy main trust me, I've been THROUGH it. Billy definitely hurt the worst for me though, Nurse's nerf was much more necessary for the health of the game. Overall I wanted your thoughts on the matter, from either a killer main or survivor main standpoint. I tried to remain pretty neutral as I find myself playing killer more often these days just from queue times and disappointment in solo queue anyway.

If you wish to know the opinion of a long time Freddy main:
-Reduced movement speed while placing snares is a good change. It actually brings him somewhat closer to killers such as Trapper and Hag.
-Reduced the maximum number of pallets and snares is a weird change, to be honest. I can see it working for Snares, since it prevents you from literally spamming them during a chase (something that you should never do). But pallets are not that strong, and they do not give you any advantages until the very last second when a survivor drops it. Reducing the number of pallets is overkill.
-Alarm clocks tweaks are pointless, in my opinion. I mean, you don't have time to actually protect them, and it is very possible that you will take longer than 30 seconds to find a survivor that just woke up.
-Add-on changes are extremely bad. Black Box is now a joke, and why on Earth, or Entity's realm, would you use an add-on that makes actions louder? If you want to counter Iron Will, there is Stridor and a generator being repaired is a loud action by itself.
-No option to play as Old Freddy = sadness

I only have one question, why nerf a mediocre killer? Its sad the devs listen to rank 15 survivors

I have mixed feelings about it, but I think when it comes to how strong he was and game health they were needed changes. I personally am not going to completely judge the changes though until I'm in game because I feel like when reading how things are going to be on paper thing sound a lot better or worse then they turn out to be. Like right now I'm like, he doesn't seem nerfed that far but maybe I play the ptb tomorrow and it's like "Oh, maybe they should buff him slightly" ya know? I'm totally okay with the Borrowed Time thing, that was kind of broken against Freddy because he could just sit there and "Oh well no Borrowed Time for you."

It's nice to hear it from a main of the killer! I do agree that they should've made his add-ons more... interesting? I don't really see the point of making actions louder. As we all know perks like technician are kind've pointless to any player with eyeballs so I see the same issue with these. Making more changes to the dream state to make the effects more disorienting or something like that would be cool without making him too much like doctor. The pallet change also seems unnecessary as I state since it is infamously a weaker addon than snares and survivors who are paying attention often don't fall for it anyway.

I completely agree, I think that we will have to see how he plays out from both sides to measure his efficacy. I personally think that he was never up for the battle against a highly efficient SWF or anything anyway like most people have said. There is a reason that there are so many nurse and spirits in the competition scene. At the end of the day if you really want to defeat efficient survivors you literally have to be multiple places at once nearly, which they both do well at.

The changes are good except for the nerf to pallets (weren't that useful or common, should've been buffed so pallets and snares saw equal amounts of play) and the addon changes. Who the hell would use addons to make Survivors louder? Even the change to Primer Bulb on Bubba and Billy wasn't as drastic as this. Ideally they would keep the same idea that they have been doing for the past few new addons, making them do mini-versions of the Killer's teachables. For Freddy we could have the chain/rope addons be like Fire Up increasing action speed for each Survivor asleep, or like Remember Me making Exit Gates take longer to open for each Survivor asleep.
As for Black Box, they tried going for this idea making it kinda like Bloodwarden, but its not good. In another thread I brought up the following:
Survivors will wake up after being asleep for 120 seconds. Survivors that are asleep cannot leave through the Exit Gates.
Strong, but counterable and not broken by using Red Paintbrush or something akin to it.

I don't really play Freddy, so most of these changes I can't really speak about. That said, new Black Box looks really weak.

I completely agree with this. I think that replacing semi-boring addons with more boring addons is not the move. The addons just seem a bit uninteresting and I feel like there was a much more exciting route they could have taken. I really like your ideas for them! I also agree with the pallet thing, they are considerably weak compared to the snares and there wasn't really a need to change them.

The changes are good, but they are also just boring.
Freddy is still a very low skill killer and his addons will still be awful.
I'm disappointed, but I can't say I really expected BHVR to do much to make Freddy a more interesting killer to play as or against.
