Give Us Back Old Freddy

Devs prove with every patch, that they have 0 understanding about this game, and that ptb is perfect example of that, starting with lucky break, and "nerfs" to Freddy and ending on fact that they patched not getting stunned as killer standning 1m from a pallet and called it a "fix"

I hate playing strong killers because they are mostly boring and not fun. Old Freddy wasn't great but was fun as hell.

I’m becoming a broken record but here I go again... original Freddy was a blast. I loved manually pulling people into the dream world. Freddy also had an element of stealth while survivors were in the waking world that could lead to some amusing encounters. I won’t get into the things that could or should have been done because of course he needed some alterations and fine tuning.. the concept and core mechanics for Freddy’s original kit were genuinely enjoyable to me. OG Freddy was a feel good Friday night.. well it’s Monday morning now, I’m stuck in traffic with Freddy as my Uber driver who says he finds it distracting so he won’t let me listen to the radio and to top it all off he said the A/C was busted... talk about a Nightmare..
a big ol’ sweaty Nightmare;p

And there might still be one! Maybe the devs won't listen to us, maybe they will. It is worth the shot.
5 -
Yep.. He was INCREDIBLY popular during his week of release (20m killer queues lol) only to be nerfed so badly so quickly and was promptly forgotten and shoved into the m1 killer bin by the greater community. What makes things worse was that all the complains were so stupid, like complaining about his lunge being long (same as every other 115..) or his invisibility being unfair (even though survivors had 7 seconds of literal Godmode when they could see him which is more than enough to make it to a pallet or vault)
5 -
I sincerely doubt that the devs just threw the code for Old Freddy's power out the window and called it a day, that kind of stuff just doesn't happen. Hell, as I said in my original post, they reused assets from Old Freddy for this nerf, meaning that they very clearly still have them. They're just too lazy or too stubborn to give us a way to play as him.
2 -
the old one was just bad, the worst killer in the entire game reason why almost no one played him, and this one is a pain in the ass to go against.
2 -
Honestly the new Black Box add on should be used to bring back old Freddy, but instead we have to settle that for budget decrease Blood Warden. Just like with Myers and Scratch Mirror, Black Box would bring back all the old features that old Freddy possessed and would bring the unique aspect back to Freddy. Simply enough make Black Box a very rare add on, and boom we can all be happy with old Freddy being back.
Even with the nerfs to Freddy now, I'm still disappointed because he looks like he's still boring. Seriously they could have improved old Freddy with quality of life changes, but instead they decided to give him a power similar to Clown and slap a teleport onto him.
3 -
I don't think Old Freddy was the worst killer in the game. In the right hands, he could actually be kind of strong. If he ever does make a return though, he'll need some small buffs and QoL improvements.
4 -
The one thing I would keep about current freddy is fake pallets other than that I would love old freddy back with numer tweaks
3 -
Exactly, just getting an add-on to play as Old Freddy would be fine.
0 -
I would rather keep Dream Projection, to be honest. Old Freddy with such mobility would be sweet!
5 -
I think the clock change was overkill. It wasn’t needed.
The change to snares was needed. I thought it was way too easy for him to place puddles while walking at normal speed.
I don’t understand who these developers are listening to for feedback anymore.
This coming from someone who truly despised Forever Freddy.
1 -
Same. At this point, there isn't a single balance change that I can understand.
4 -
In my opinion that'd be the ideal way to see him return. Just his old kit, but keeping the teleport from Modern Freddy.
2 -
I would like this either
3 -
Old freddy is still there in pill bottle add on. That the closest you will get to the old one.
1 -
That add-on barely scratch's the surface of Old Freddy. It kinda gives him a bit of what his stealth used to be, but that's it.
1 -
It will go to the main game. They've already invested way too many resources not to go through with it. I've already dropped him. This is why I haven't spent any money in ages. I'm missing like 8 killers at this point lol.
2 -
That the whole point of the add on. It now in pill bottle form. I main old freddy and ran a skill check build on him.

I loved old freddy. I miss playing Freddy because I love the character but I find his new power so boring.
That said, his old power was problematic in a lot of ways, we shouldn't get the same power as it was, even a little bit buffed. But I think the concept is worth attempting again. A killer with long-range aura reading that can keep track of survivors across the map, and a killer who feels like they truely exist in a different dimension. It felt so cool having Freddy and a surv in the same space but unable to interact.
I could see them doing something like this with the candyman if they got his license, or with an original killer of course.
One thing that would make a long-term aura-reading a bit more understandable to new players: Put a status effect like 'Watched" on survivors that informs them when their aura is being revealed to him. Don't put it on all aura reading, just him specifically and maybe some other aura reading like wallhack plague.

Yes please, i rarely played Freddy after his change, even though he got stronger in general. He got more brain-dead as well. You only need to do the same stuff over and over again with new Freddy. Hook someone teleport to the gen thats being repaired with pop, kick it, chase the survivor/s that repaired the gen, rinse and repeat, place traps in the same spots on every loop and you are good to go.
I suspect BHVR has so much chaos in their assets/data that they probably cant manage to find and or implement old Freddy. Even though it wouldn't be that hard to bring him back. My view on their work ethic is declining day by day.
4 -
Although I never stopped playing Freddy, I know exactly how you feel. I still remember my first match with his new power, and everything just felt wrong.
4 -
Twas truly a tragic day.
3 -
I loved old Freddy, he was unique and had his own playstyle, different from anybody else. New Freddy just feels bland, like every other Killer.
I also find old Freddy to be way more fitting to A Nightmare on Elm Street. Only being able to attack sleeping survivors.
New Freddy lost his identity, in my eyes he is just like every other Killer and his flair is gone.
4 -
Same, my friend. One of the best things about Old Freddy was how unique he was, compared to the rest of the roaster.
I don't dislike his new power, but I would gladly leave it behind to play as Old Freddy again. I just want my main back.
3 -
Indeed it was. July of 2019, if I am not mistaken.
4 -
I really hope this can get big enough for the devs to notice. Maybe, just maybe it doesnt have to be like this, loosing hope for my old love and only despair to follow. Maybe there is a shimmer of hope left. A small ray of light that shines in the dark.
4 -
I can say the same, my friend. If there is a chance of us getting our old killer back, I will take it. It is worth the shot.
4 -
I can agree with this. I hate that he can now teleport to generators now and the fake pallets tick me off. I found it fun and challenging to play as Freddy but now not so much. He was the reason why I bought Dead By Daylight by the way.
6 -
This entirely. I had started playing the game during the time of Legion release, and while I understood the basics of his power as a Survivor, there were a lot of things about it that were very confusing to me and didn't make much sense.
I wouldn't mind seeing old Freddy make a return, even if it is only for nostalgia- but I do think his abilities are much more streamline and easy to understand in their current state.
5 -
I never got a chance to play old Freddy but from the clips I’ve seen of him he looked super fun and interesting to play. I’d rather have a killer on the weaker side who is fun and unique than a killer who is easy to master. #bringbackoldfreddy

This would be a dream come true and not the nightmares we are used to.
But i doubt they have enough dedication to do something like this. And their marketing team (if they even have one) probably wouldn't be happy about that.
But having different versions of characters is not something unheard of, many games have multiple versions of characters with different abilities. And it would even kind of fit in the lore and the movie aesthetics.
But both characters probably would need to look different enough to discern them. Having 2 nearly identical characters would make everything a lot more confusing for newer players.
I believe that should be realizable though. Giving old Freddy some tattered clothes with different color hue, Englunds Face and his hat. I believe that would be enough to discern them.
1 -
Pill Bottle has not much to do with old Freddy. Sure you are a little more stealthy. But its still just an addon for new Freddy, while old Freddy had a completely different playstyle and power.
2 -
People could also use SC behind a pallet, fail a skill check and now they were immune for another 7 seconds.
I think he was only so popular, because he released during Halloween, during a double (or was it tripple) BP event, which also had a free steam weekend. People complained that they faced him every match for 2 weeks (unlike new killer releases we have right now).
2 -
His powers now are overkill. Teleporting, pallets and puddles on top of sleeping. They changed so much, that they have no idea how to nerf him now.
2 -
Oh don't get me wrong, I agree that his powers are entirey overkill. Imho Freddy is currently a 'Jack of all trades, master of none' which makes him difficult to balance and a bit boring compared to other killers, who can generally fill the same niches better. (Want to teleport and place traps? Play Hag. Want to slow Survivors and shut down loops by slowing them or effecting them? Play Clown or Doctor. Want to sneak up on your targets? Play literally any stealth killer in the game. The list goes on.)
But still, I do think that Freddy's current kit is more streamline and easy to understand from both sides. I kinda just wish that they could give him a better mix of both powers, where it was something that was easy to understand the basics of, but had a lot you can learn playing with and against it. (While also being at least decently fun for both sides.)
1 -
I would only love to be able to play as old freddy if they change back his add ons to the old ones he had back then.
That way I can bring them to sleep really fast what most of the survivors never expected. 😬

Old Freddy was fun and fine. He was weak and needed buff. But rework was not necessary.
Old Freddy needed just little changes. I mean awake survivors can bodyblock you. And you cant hit them. So you can change it to when you carry someone all survivors can get hit. Changes like that. But no, they reworked him.
I hope one day devs will add Old Freddy with add-on (Black Box)
2 -
Nah, i prefer the old Freddy. I mained him but now i only touch him for a daily.
3 -
Hahaha yeah the devs 🤦♂️
Also the black box is just freaking hilarious the way they made it on the ptb 🤣
Like what are 10s?
You just loop him around 1 time and you run out 🤣
And that for an iri 🤦♂️🤣
Just make it so that a survivor has to wake up to be able to escape, then it is worth as an iri.
In it's current state it's not worth more than a yellow add on
3 -
I'm so glad to see all of the support! I doubt the devs will actually take notice of this thread, but it's worth a shot if we get to play as Old Freddy again!
1 -
Yeah its sad, isnt it ? Its pretty similar for me, old Freddy was the first Killer that i played regularly and pretty exclusively.
3 -
It´s really sad. Freddy mains knew exactly what QoL changes he need. But the devs ignored the proposals and created a new killer from scratch. No one asked for this.
2 -
The fun challange was not to laugh too hard while you toyed with him, right?
0 -
If they do it it should be by add on only. I mained him for 2 years and really loved his weirdly unique playstyle but he was real bad against any half decent team.
New freddy is anti-fun hand holding incarnate, but he's at least semi viable. I would have loved to use my 100 second gate Remember me build with that new Trickster perk lol. shame they gutted remember me with EGC
1 -
I main old freddy and it pretty much the same except you don't wait 7 sec and other various things. Old freddy was invisible until you fall asleep. As the old freddy you had to be able to juggle the survivors. Why people never did that is beyond me.
1 -
This. Old Freddy was basically a test of your ability to keep track of gens, survivors, red stain mindgames (he had zero anti loop or mobility) and knowing when and when not to commit to chases.
Sometimes it was better to drop someone into the dream then beeline to two others on a gen, sleep them and commit to one of them. He was very weak overall, but he was really fun when you played well.
He also forced regression and slowdown with that 50% action speed. If you got all 4 survivors in the dream that was free regression. Ontop of any perks you had. And it was STILL more fun that forever and current freddy.
3 -
There was also the "you can run but can't hide" aspect. Freddy only lost a chase if he wanted to, thanks to the aura reading. People might have forgotten because nu-freddy is so awful but it wasn't fun to be on the receiving end of.
