Scratch marks should change

I don't think the current state scratch marks is in a good state and I will be telling my ideas on how it should be change (this is my experience with scratch marks as well as my opinion).

Make scratch marks narrower (previous title: Predator tier 2 should be base kit

I do think scratch marks are too wide and I think it would be a great idea since scratch marks can spread out too much and sometime it goes to far toward a single direction (which I've notice time to time as survivor while having fixated with me). Update: Scratch marks on the walls is separate from Scratch marks on the ground and are as wide as current state of Scratch marks.

Scratch marks should glow of brighter

Scratch marks aren't bright enough which make it harder to track and it get harder when they fades away so it could help if it get brighter or/and have a glow.

Scratch marks should be directional

When I mean by directional, i mean make scratch Mark face to the direction the survivor was running toward which could help track them as I found some situation where I couldn't tell where the scratch marks were going so this might help in those situations.(update: it seem making scratch marks directional might be unfair so I am going to make is part of predator)

Perk: Predator

Your ability and knowledge to track your prey make you dangerous to go against.

  • Scratch marks last 2/3/4 seconds longer.
  • Scratch marks show the direction the survivor was going.
  • Walking now give smaller and wider scratch marks for 2/3/4 seconds.

“He never stop until his prey is dead”- unknown, notebook

A large chunk of Scratch marks should face but small chunk should

I hate that a large chunk of Scratch Mark fades away while I'm tracking because it make it harder to know if they'd disappeared or still present but transparent. Making a small chunk of Scratch mark fade is not only I good change in my opinion but it should've been like that in the first place.

Conclusion

I hope you guys understand this post and could give me some feedback or maybe some ideas you would want to change about a scratch marks. Thanks for reading.

Update: I have update the list to add and change a few things and I will be commenting the update if I need to from now on

Predator actually makes it so scratch marks don’t spawn on walls and trees and such so that would be a terrible idea

Making Predator base-kit is more of a nerf. The wide range of scratch marks makes them noticeable from further away and can help find a survivor you may have missed if the scratch marks were more focused.

I personally haven't had an issue with scratch mark brightness. I know people mentioned it was an issue for color-blind people, but hopefully the filters will take care of that.

As for the other changes, I don't really think they're necessary.

I definitely agree that tracking scratch marks is more difficult since the map reworks, i really struggle to see them on springwood in that thick grass for example.

I love the idea of them being brighter, that would be my number 1 choice, but im not sure if the marks should be narrower, we dont want to make tracking too easy as tracking is an important skill to learn and master as killer.

I am not making predator base kit. I'm thinking making it a bit narrower would be better and I would like to add that having scratch marks on walls should be separate from scratch marks on the ground, making it more narrower without the downside of less visibility on walls

I Do sometimes but not most of the time.

Just wanting to make scratch marks better so people won't have to deal with some of these issues

Between more grass, way brighter environments, map palette color changes, and all the map reworks, scratch marks are dang near invisible even in wide open fields. They were made back when the game was super dark on every level and they have not held up to the new "let's install flood lights at the carnival" or "Let's tromp around snow that miraculously leaves no footprints," or "let's just play Dead by Daylight in the actual daylight" maps. Those things should be glowing like the frickin' sun, even without Predator.

I think the glow is just right (not so bright that I'm following neon arrows, not so dim that I can't even find them) and I personally don't believe that they should point out directions. I think that's too much of an advantage. At that point one might as well have an onscreen map that always shows the direction of the nearest survivor.

Just having scratch marks are enough, in my opinion. I think it's a fair advantage for killers which encourages survivors to play more cautiously (or strategically). That said, I wouldn't be against them being closer together. It's kind of silly to be chasing someone who manages to get around a wall and disappear because the scratch marks go eight feet high and ten feet wide across every surface that the survivor happened to look at.

Personally I think base scratch marks are a bit wonky at times but in the grand scheme usually are fine and don't lose matches more than ones own mistakes as killer do

That said I still think that predator as a perk should be buffed to make tracking scratch marks more consistant and overall just make it a better tracking perk

Here is a rework idea I have said multiple times over

Predator: Survivors leave scratch marks at all times, Scratch marks are directional and are parallel to the direction the survivor is moving in, Survivor scratch marks made while running spawn slightly/moderately/considerably closer together and are brighter

Imo devs should fix scratch marks on stairs because they suddenly disappear, it's very annoying on the game map.
