Suggestion - BBQ aura reading and Kindred as base kit

As a killer and survivor player who spent thousands of hours in DBD I'd suggest to set the BBQ aura reading ability and the perk "kindred" as base kit. "Kindred" is an awesome perk for solo survivors, but not many people are using it. "Kindred" gives them informations about the killers behaviour (e.g. if he is camping or targeting another person) SWF squads with teamspeak already have. Every solo player know the problem, if no one is going to unhook u or three guys are rushing your hook while the killer is staying next to u. So "Kindred" would help a lot.

On the killers side I would like to get the BBQ aura reading ability as base kit. First u should be able to see the survivors aura, while hiding in locker, like it was a long time ago. Then maybe u should change the color of the aura so that can u see them better sitting behind a gen. Im playing BBQ in a lot of my matches and it is still annoying, how often I can´t see anyone instead of the hooked guy. I guess super sneaky and immersed survivors will dislike this idea, but at least it will encourage a lot of killers not to camp the hook and to switch to another target. Finally it would be a buff for both sides.

What do u guys think about?

When people say Kindred basekit, they just mean the Survivors should all have Aura reading while someone is on hook not the 16m Killer Aura. I wish they would specify that.

U would have still enough possibilities to run specific builds. There are already some abilities, which are base kit (e.g. survivors can see slugged teammates; killers see the aura of generators end exit gates) So I dont see a problem :)

Im not sure what u mean Oo If I write the perk "kindred" should be base kit I dont mean the perk "kindred" except 16m killer aura Oo If u read my post there is actually nothing to specify :)

kindred as a basekit but make it so you cant see the killers aura but instead you can see the other survivors. this change wouldnt benefit swf so i dont see why it cant be a basekit. also kindred is a general perk which means removing it and turning it into a basekit wouldnt cause too much harm.

barbecue and chilli as a basekit. this one has way more problems. i feel like it would be too generous to killers like billy or nurse. bbq is also a teachable perk so the devs would probably have to replace one of bubbas teachables. bbq also has 2x bloodpoints so that would cause even more issues. overall, bbq basekit would be way jankier than a kindred basekit

Sure, that sounds like a workable idea that would help alleviate the gap between solo que and SWF whilst also encouraging killers to leave hooks.

I agree 100% with the kindred as survivors.

But as a killer pov bbq no.

Bbq shouldn't be allowed to see everything a survivor does that would make it unfair. It's bad enough we can see them fixing gens close by or running around.

To be to stop them countering bbq would be awful. Hiding in lockers is literally of them countering our bbq perk, play smart and have iron maiden on you'd be amazed how many times you'll catch the locker rats hiding in there that way.

I'm thinking of survivors point of view. Killers can't have everything to stop survivors with their objectives. They have to have some sort of 50/50. I play both before anyone has some rampage and I didn't comment this to have a blow out with anyone or for anyone to agree with me.

That's the point. Like it or now swf is part of the game and solo needs to be boosted to that level. Once you do that then they can buff killers to compete.

This question is aimed at the people who say that Kindred basekit shouldn't show the killer's aura: You do realise SWF can just tell their teammates "the killer's camping" right? People want solo queue to have the info that SWF get for free, including the info of whether or not a killer is camping.

Thing is, sacrificing perk slots for aura reading is boring, and it's something you don't need to do in a SWF (even though I still run kindred when I play with friends). The aura reading by default would be a HUGE QoL change for solo players, and a minor QoL change for SWF groups. If anything it limits perk builds, and kindred and BBQ aura reading could be reworked to be more interesting instead of what they are now.

No, it doesnt. I for one like the game with a lack of information, as it keeps the tension up.

Also, buffing information doesnt help with people not caring about you, which is one of the things that make swf strong.

They need to seperate swf from solo and need to balance both modes seperatly.

But that is the entire problem, everyone starts off about SWF. SWF alone removes about 80% of the games spontaneusness and suprise elements which is what should be the games strong points. Personally i tihnk there should not be any aura reading options on perks. With killers seeing gens and seeing slugged / hooked survivors being the exception.

Seeing gens? So basically if one survivor was fixing them you'd be able to see them straight away? Or? I would say bbq covers the aura enough of survivors as it is, I don't use that perk as a killer mainly because I like the tension of not seeing auras too much.

Is it wrong or illegal to want QoL changes that make the game more fun and nicer to play for both sides or something? I don't see why it would be too much when SWF already get this information without needing a perk slot. It would not be too much info, for good players it would be a QoL change at most and for bad players and solo Q it would significantly help them without them sacrificing a perk slot to have knowledge of something other players have via Discord.

You could make a more nerfed version of the killer aura reading. Only have the aura show up if the killer has been within the 16m of the hook for...let's say 20 seconds.

Eh I really wouldn't like any of those perks as a basekit, why? Cause it would automatically ruin one aspect of the game and that's guessing/not knowing where the survivors/killer are.

As a solo survivor I'd automatically know where my teammates are, where other gens are and which way the killer goes ever single game...where's fun in that?

Thx for your responses so far guys :)

To summarize the message of my first post for those people who are not able to read it or understand it...: o͡͡͡╮༼ ʘ̆ ۝ ʘ̆ ༽╭o͡͡͡

I wanna hav kindred base kit with ALL its features (survivors aura AND killer's aura reading) + advanced BBQ aura reading without the 100% bonus bloodpoints for killers.

Setting kindred to base kit would NOT put solos on the same level like skilled SWF, but it would help to close the gap between both of them. Most people who dislike this idea are notorious campers or players, who even struggle to win against an uncoordinated solo squad. Why else would u care about, if they see ur aura at the hook? Dont forget, good SWF teams know always (!) where the killer is... kindred shows u the killer's position only, if he is in the near of the hook - that's a big difference!

To make it fair for both sides the killer should get the reworked BBQ aura reading (without +100% BP) for free. At least it would encourage people not to camp the hook. All the locker Dwights who dislikes this idea can still run away to the next jungle gym as soon kindred indicates, that the killer is coming for them.

My intention is to make DBD fairer for both sides - survivors and killers. Both aura reading abilities would help against camping playstyles, making solos and the killer stronger. I know SWF players gain only a small advantage from these changements. But even after these changes SWF would still enjoy its advantage of kindred and teamspeak.

I dont say that this suggestion is completely perfect, but if u disagree with me make some better suggestions for balancing ;) That´s why I wanna discuss it here in these forums <3

Kindred may be necessary to bridge the power gap between Solo Queue and SWF, which makes re-balancing an absolute pain. I don't know what basekit BBQ would try to fix, though. It seems like a solution in search of a problem.

There are a lot of perks in the game that really should be basekit or at least have a lesser version as basekit like kindred, the BP bonus from BBQ/WGLF (though I think wglf should be attached to gen progress). I think other perks that address unfun behavior or glaring weaknesses should be base as well like BT/DS and Hex: ruin.

Kindred basekit should only be survivors auras and not killer aura unless you have kindred equipped

Kindred as a perk has its range increased by 8 meters (max range still capped at 24 with open handed so no hope for stacking its range) and keeps the same effect

BBQ basekit only includes the aura reading side

BBQ as a perk becomes more interesting heres my take on it, whenever you hook a survivor who is not dead on hook, gain a token each token provides a 25% stackable bonus to all bloodpoint gains up to 6/7/8 tokens this perk can no longer gain tokens after a survivor who is dead on hook is hooked or a survivor is killed by your own hands. (Bonus bp is awarded post trial). If you reach at least 6 tokens bbq also triggers aura reading on all survivors outside of 40 meters every 60 seconds for 4 seconds this effect persists to the end of the trial.

Meaning that bbq becomes both a blood point engine with double its capacity for bonus bp and it becomes a powerful late game perk that provides a ton of information as a reward for going after different survivors, but the perk itself also can't be tampered with by survivors killing themselves on hook as the only way to disable it is to have someone killed early by the killers own hands

I mean the way you see them now for the killer, that they glow red, same with totems and for survivors to see dying survivors and hooked ones. Thats all there should be. any other aura reading options should just be gone from perks.

because if you can make the game consistent between solo groups and teams, then you can actually make meaningful and targeted balancing changes with less unknown variables. meaning better balance and better thought out changes that are likely to make proper improvements instead of band-aid fixes or just estranged impactless quality of life.

imagine if they were like "all killers now pick survivors up 10% faster. we think this will help killers to fight against swf lobbies, while not punishing solo players too much". now stop imagining because this is the world we live in. changes have to be weird and almost artificial because of the impact difference between solo and swf because there's such a big gap. the solution is closing the goddamn gap. nothing else will help.

I feel like some players playing as the want alot more powers than what they have? As i said i do play killer and the powers we do have already are insane. We have bbq , hex , obsession... so many. I feel if we have anything else more powerful it would be pointless for a survivor to play and would be a little unfair in some ways.

This. It also should show the killers aura. I dont see the issue with it showing if a killer is facecamping or not.
