Was not expecting to see that when I read the notes so was pleasantly surprised.
I wonder if the reason for adding it was because the devs saw stats that showed tunneling actually did increase after the DS change?

pretty sure that was the reason. Since the DS change, I rarely saw an obsession in my matches.

I already did. I would often realize half way through a match that there was no obsession and that I didn't need to slug a survivor earlier.

I'm not sure. I think it's going to backfire because it might lead to less DS use. I don't think I'll remove it from my build for now

Probably. I've only played maybe 5 games since last week because of all the tunneling. It's just not fun anymore.

Because DS is so much rarer now, and that there is always an obsession regardless, many killers will likely assume no DS even when its there. People still running DS are going to get a lot more value from it now, I bet...

Yes and no. You won’t be able to rule out DS being in play, so back to back hooks could be riskier. But there’s less incentive for survivors to run DS for the sake of having an Obsession now, so it might be less common anyway.

Good change should discourage tunneling, or at least picking people up after they get unhooked. Even they probably noticed an increase in tunneling in their stats. As I have seen an increase in tunneling myself.

That's a good change regarless of tunneling. It gives solo survivors more information via entity claws.
Besides it just lowers the consistency where tunneling is 100%, that doesn't mean it won't happen anymore. It's a good solo change, we need more though to make solos get closer to SWF level of possibly coordination.

Kinda figured this was coming to be honest. And not terribly surprised it came this fast either.
Given DS cancels itself on an action, I'm not terribly concerned about it. We see somebody healing or on a generator, we can still assume them to be fair game and put them back on the meathook where they belong.

I hope someday they give "being the obsession" some kind of effect by default, so that it's not possible to have a match where it's 100% meaningless and no one has any special buffs or debuffs related to obsessions -- but I understand making this change.

Ofcourse it was. After DS change most of my matches killers are tunnelling, even someone have DS. This change will fix it? I do not think so. I think they have to add more anti-tunnel perks and DS has to be active after all hooks.

Still using DS in all my games. 8 games out of 10, I was the only DS user and I expect that to not change. But this was a MUCH needed change imo.

Survivors couldn't differentiate killers using NOED so why should killers be able to differentiate survivors using DS? This changes corrects this and makes the solo experience better.
The developer made a great change, there should always be a risk to tunneling and rushing generators. Not one or the other.

IMHO there should be a killer-related obsession interaction, or more interaction around the obsession itself in general.
Currently the obsession gets 1500 extra survival BP for escaping, or 1000 if they die.
(There's also an unused score event according to the wiki for healing the obsession)
Can we have more interactions like this? Such as aura reveals on the obsession lasting 1.5x longer, or bonus BP for chasing, hitting, hooking, and sacrificing the obsession? Or all survivors get a slight BP bonus if the obsession escapes?

Being the obsession has always been meaningless. The reason why having an obsession in the game matters is because it discourages tunneling even if there was no DS at play. In fact, I've been bringing green keys with wedding band to enforce obsessions to be in the game. Fun fact, the games there was an obsession were 10 times less likely to tunnel for no reason. If there was no obsession, killers were likely to tunnel just for the sake of tunneling.
