Why do people want an lgbtq character?
i’m sorry if this comes of as rude but i don’t understand, why is it a problem if we have an lgbtq character or not?
for all we know trapper could be gay, we simply don’t know.
why don’t we know? because it never tells us.
why doesn’t it tell us? because it doesn’t matter.
you don’t sit there getting out of your way to make straight characters so why get out of your way to make an lgbtq one?
it does not matter if someone is lgbtq or not, there is no reason so specify a sexuality in someone’s story. a killers story should be about then becoming a killer, not them riding another mans dick.

I agree.
But sexuality has already been specified in several stories, ergo, it is not unreasonable to ask for representation.

dbd is a horror game about killing people. it’s literally a murder game.
12 -
I mean David has a girlfriend in his lore, the nurse just got a charm of her and her husband, a few years ago we got nurse X wraith cosmetics, why weren't you angry at them forcing straight relationships but are only concerned about there being LGBT relationships?
Normalizing LGBT relationships is very important so we stop having threads like this about every game that includes one.
21 -
one word: representation. I'm straight but I feel why they are frustrated. Consider if you were/are black and all they ever offered was white or asian players? It's the same principal. I feel like everyone deserves a voice in this world. We all share the planet.

Because it's nice to be normalised.
18 -
In the scenario where there are characters that are canonically heterosexual, full-on LGBT representation would be nice.
14 -
Because people like seeing characters like them.Making head cannons isn't the same thing.

Apex Legends is a BR but still has LGBT characters,Overwatch is an FPS but still has 2 LGBT characters.
Why can't LGBT people be in murder games? What's the connection?
9 -
This will be a fun thread.
As to answer your question: people want a LGBTQA+ character because a) BHVR has gone on and on about being inclusive and all that, and b) they've added heterosexual relationships, so why not have a homosexual one?
The Nurse had a husband and Felix is implied to have had a girlfriend. BHVR specifically went out of their way to add those character facts when they could have not had them at all; the Nurse's husband dying is a path they chose to take the story when they could have just as easily made her take the job to provide for her family.
Furthermore, no one is asking for a character to be sexual and the fact that you are immediately equating wanting a LGBTQA+ character with riding another man's dick is homophobic, intentional or not. We are asking for information in character bios or the Archive. Obviously, I don't speak for everyone but I would be so happy if there was a line in a Dwight Archive page that mentioned his past boyfriend, even if it's a single line.
Other games do it easily. Apex Legends has several LGBTQA+ characters and their sexuality has no bearing on the game but is rather just fun lore.

Don't worry OP, I also don't get why people want an LGBT+ character, I understand that they want a character to represent them but wouldn't asking every patch and stuff be worse for normalizing? I want a mexican survivor or killer but we don't get what we want.
4 -
Who were the Overwatch ones again, remind me... Soldier and Tracer, right?
2 -
Yeah
2 -
Why not an LGBT+ Mexican survivor?
Seriously, they could be hitting all forms of diversity, but instead they only tackled race and then cannonized a couple of characters as straight despite saying they weren't going to do that. I think that's the core issue of the whole thing
7 -
As far as you can say Dbd is a horror game, the lore just frankly doesn’t care. The entity will take people who have extreme emotions, like hate, tenacity, and sadness.
Its has been confirmed basically in the lore. The entity could take someone in love. And you might say ew i don’t want that.
It could be any character to get that.
You might say ooh no character has a sexuality. Ok what about nurse. Or felix?
I mean they’re doing a better job adding a pride flag in, that’s SOMETHING to express yourself with.
At the end of they day, i’m not clawing for a gay character. I just think it’d be neat for representation.
6 -
isn’t zarina mexican?
0 -
I would be down for that ngl, I'm straight but I have nothing against anyone, for me people is people regardless of their sexual preference (I may have worded that wrong).
But they really added straight relationships to the game? I never heard of that but I don't read lore.
1 -
According to the Wiki no, she is lebanese american.
The closest we have to a mexican survivor is Jane while she isn't mexican at least she is latina.

Lebanese.
The issue with 'representation' is that it tends to attract the wrong crowd. I'm fine with things how they are now, and I'd want BHVR to be -very- cautious with any LGBT representation, since the crowd that usually clamours for it tends to lose it at the drop of a hat.
6 -
I'm gay and I couldn't care less if there is a lgbt character in the game. Just because in someone's lore it says oh yeah and btw he has a boyfriend doesn't make zero difference to me because I'm playing a video game where you kill survivors or run away from a killer.
This isn't the sims or some other real life simulator, besides just because it says in the lore that felix had a girlfriend doesn't mean he didn't have a boyfriend before or nurse didn't experiment in her college days getting her nursing degree lol. It's a make belief video game it's all up for interpretation and shouldn't be taken that seriously.
8 -
Yeah, jsut a few mentions here and there with David, Felix, Nurse and I think a few others. Exactly the kind of thing that could just have reversed pronouns and be perfect representation.
5 -
I propose a simple solution--
Never mention anything about relationships or sexuality, ever. No one has girlfriends or boyfriends.
No one being included means everyone is included.
5 -
This is what I keep telling people.
A single line. BAM. Done and canon. End of story.
Apex Legends literally just did it with their newest Legend.
Everything BHVR comes up with at this point is an excuse, and lazy ones at that.
6 -
DBD has also given several characters relationships, like Nurse and David.
Why not make it equal?
5 -
Honestly? I'd be fine with this.
I have no issues with people writing or believing a character to be x or y.
1 -
"Oh hey, Trickster what is your sexuality?"
"나는 재미로 사람들을 고문하고 죽인다."
Jokes aside, I agree.
1 -
Don't mistake fan made ships with official relationships made by BHVR.
1 -
Yeah, the charm of the Nurse and the Wraith dancing, as well as the comments about them being a "thing" are totally fan-made
4 -
Because players are also LGBTQ+.
1 -
Was gonna give my take, but @MadLordJack and @glitch296 explained it perfectly.
3 -
The thing is being LGBTQA+ is not just "riding a dick" or what goes on in the bedroom. Same for straight people. Sexuality is apart of a person, who they love and how this affects them. Offhandedly mentioning in the lore mentioning Dwight's past boyfriend or Meg's girlfriend or stuff like that is not forcing it in our faces like "oo look we inclusive" it is subtle which Is what I as a gay guy would really appreciate.
There's inclusivity and then there's just being like JK rowling about it like imagine running away from trapper then him suddenly screaming "ah i need a cock up the ass!" Yeah no that's not what it is to be gay lmfao
10 -
Sometimes I wonder if trolly questions like this actually help the community, because they cause us to ritualistically explain why inclusion is good every couple of days.
7 -
On one hand, I want people to understand so I don't have to see threads like this everywhere I go.
On the other, Google is right there. Right ######### there.
2 -
Julie and Frank, Nurse and her husband, David and his girlfriend.
Those are the one's off the top of my head, I think Felix also has mention of a girlfriend, but I'm not sure.
3 -
Some people just want representation.
0 -
Felix had a six month pregnant girlfriend at the time of his disappearance, yes.
Means he's also the first Survivor to canonically be a parent as well, joining Oni on that front.
3 -
Answer is simple:
To feel seen.
Headcanons are fine and dandy, but they are just that.
Having canonically queer characters is a way of saying 'yep, you exists and kudos for that'
Like, people don't want a character that is a walking cliché or JUST queer. Look at what we got in terms of heterosexual character in the lore: David had a girlfriend mentioned in text, Felix's girlfriend is pregnant. And people don't ask for more than something like that.
For example declaring deathslinger bi by having a line like 'As vicious and merciless as he's with his enemies, as kind he was with his friends, and as compassionate with the men and women he found himself in bed with, whether or not the latter two overlapped'
or something like that.
Just an... acknowledgement that one's valid.
4 -
I do consider it. And i don't care. Hell some of the games i enjoy the most are games where english isn't even the primary language of choice and there are no non-asian characters.
2 -
It's trolling to see these threads in every game I play now. For about 3 months straight the WoW forums were straight up SPAMMED with threads about that (at one point there was 10-12 on the front page)--despite there already being some representation in that game. They've died down considerably since, but there's still at least one every day, and the community has written it off as trolling now.
1 -
This thread is going great!
yeah it’s just about equal treatment.
if they never mentioned heterosexual relationships it would be fine to also not mention LGBT+ relationships. But they have multiple times while excluding LGBT+.
its obvious that those mentioned don’t define their characters, they can still be bi or even gay or straight, the thing is -if that is the case- why should it be explicitly excluded from the lore?
also it’s really sad that there are so many arguments against it: it’s political (so are Zarinas and Yuis story’s, and being LGBT+ isn’t even political to begin with), it doesn’t impact gameplay (nothing on the lore impacts gameplay), sexuality has no place in a videogame/horror game (we already have heterosexuality and horror has always been heavily tied with sexuality), devs were pushed/forced (they already have stated multiple times it’s not the case, they changes their point of view on it freely)
the question here should be: why is LGBTQ+ Inclusion really a problem for some people? It doesn’t hurt anyone. Except maybe those that live in a country that might censor this, but even then, it happened before and that shouldn’t be a reason for exclusion everywhere.

IMO, the characters sexualities shouldn’t be in the game at all, however we already have crossed that line so why not have at least one gay character
4 -
but why in a horror game?
0 -
This was actually what the devs attempted and stated they wanted to do.
sad thing is.. they failed miserably. But no one had a problem with it when they didn’t hold their word back then. It’s only now when LGBTQ+ will be treated equally that it should be completely excluded..
(or did you actually propose this back when Nurses backstory was revealed? Then I apologize for assuming. But frankly.. I don’t think so)
3 -
Why not? It's a game with characters that resemble humans, it's nice to have representation and when representation doesn't harm anyone which it hasn't and doesn't then it should be included, it's really not hard to figure out.
4 -
Why we want to normalize this in a horror game? If they will add a gay I want him to be killer from first half of XX century not just a guy that is mentioned that he is gay withour any reason
1 -
why not? horror has always had close links to sexuality and im pretty sure ANOES2 was pretty homoerotic lol
3 -
Considering all of the ass shots, I'd say yes, it was very homoerotic.
3 -
its been a couple years since ive seen it glad i remembered correctly
2 -
I watched it with my parents the other month. 🙃
2 -
this would be good if it wasnt for the fact that mentions of relationships and sexuality already exist and, unless you can erase everyone's memories, it looks like youd rather retcon the lore to exclude everyone than even think about including lgbt+ people which is a pretty bad light to be showing
