Wraith is still trash tier

dtavares7
dtavares7 Member Posts: 36

You can see and hear him from like 20 feet away, so his power is pretty much useless except against the most clueless rank 15-20 survivors

He has ZERO power in chase

So not only is he useless in chase, but in 90% of maps you can see and hear him coming from enough of a distance to give you a nice cushion to run away

If it's gonna take him 4 seconds to get out of invis, they should atleast make it so he doesn't make sound when he's invis otherwise the invisibility is completely useless

Wraith is an excellent hit and run killer. Only potato survivors won't notice you uncloaking, but at the same time, his lack of a TR and fast movement ensures he'll get close to survivors before they notice him - with Wraith, you never have the situation where you know somebody is at a gen, but you waste 20 seconds poking around the jungle gym until you find them/give up because they're probably somewhere else now. He patrols fast and survivors have limited ability to evade him before he spots them. His lunge straight-up gives him the hit unless the survivor makes it to a pallet or window. No chase potential outside of that, but he's excellent at getting the first hit, and unlike Legion, his 'first hit' can down.

Just swoop around the map smacking people, committing if they're out in the open and leaving for softer targets if they're in a good tile. Eventually you'll start finding clusters of injured survivors healing each other, and from there, profit.

His power is useful at the start of the chase, if you are saying you get zero use out of his speed boost coming out of invis I have to question if you are approaching gens with any kind of plan. Not saying you need to be playing 3d chess or anything but if you approach a gen and see killer shack is in front of you(survivors are going to run there once you approach them) approach from a different angle. Don't chase them into strong loops, Wraith has enough speed that you should be able to re-position/plan ahead as you approach gens.

Outside of the initial speed boost, yeah you're right that his power doesn't have a use in chase and it really doesn't need to at this point. It's supposed to be used for map mobility and the initial burst at the start of a chase it isn't designed to be used mid-chase to get a hit at a tile that's being actively looped and that's ok.

Still useless against actual competent survivors, he's fast, cool, he can get around the map at "sanic speeds", cool, but that's all useless because once he's out of his invis (which takes 3-4 seconds) he's a slow M1 killer with no power whatsoever

  • dtavares7
    dtavares7 Member Posts: 36

Once survivors know the killer is wraith they just look for his EXTREMELY obvious shimmer from 20 feet away and his stupid ass breathing

It's really not hard to tell he's coming to you 10 seconds before he is

  • Carth
    Carth Member Posts: 1,182

While it's true that he is noisy and has the shimmer, there are zero maps where all seven gens have complete visibility around them so you can see him approaching. As far as the ten seconds thing, I assume you are exaggerating here.

Are there some gens on all the maps that completely suck for wraiths approach? Yeah for sure.

Are there some gens on all the maps that are awesome for wraiths approach? Yeah for sure.

I'm sure every time a survivor has bolted from the gen before you arrive sucks, but I'm also sure there's lots of times you've snuck up and managed to nail hits. As far as people leaving early there's a variety of other factors to discuss. Was it SWF, did someone communicate the direction you were heading in? Was spine chill active? Did someone use premonition(lol)?. There's lot of detection tools in the game outside of just listening to wraith's noise & looking for his shimmer

Play him using one purple windstorm and all seeing, then pair it with Starstruck and Agitation. Fast hooking then finding exposed survivors, that is very strong.

Dude I was sitting at rank 14 with legion until I played wraith. Now just this week I went from 17 to 5 with no struggle. Pretty sure I can get rank 1 with how the matches are going.

You gotta hide behind a corner before you uncloak, hide at the pallet side so they can't run to the pallet when they hear you. You don't start making noise until 1.5 seconds into de cloaking. Then you have 1.5 seconds plus the speed boost to make your move. Either get a hit on the survivor or keep chasing them until they drop pallet, Break the pallet. Right after that you leave to find another generator, and repeat.

Make sure you have nurses calling and sloppy butcher. With sloppy butcher that 4 seconds of extra healing time is so important with nurses calling. The times I tried to go without sloppy, I always got to survivors just as they finished healing.

If the chase goes to 20 seconds leave. Eventually most of the survivors will be injured, and next time you see them you get an easy down.

Bte if you stand still as wraith you go completely invisible. Its a pretty cracked ability, I got so many free downs after camping basement

  • dtavares7
    dtavares7 Member Posts: 36

I mean its super simple, you hear him and cant see him? he's hiding behind a wall or tree or whatever. Hes extremely easy to counter and its so obvious

  • twocansofbean
    twocansofbean Member Posts: 200

Just hide behind the wall. And if you find a generator in progress with no survivor. That mean they have spine chill. So they already saw you walking to the gen 32 meters away. All you have to do is walk sideways and the not look at the gen when going towards it.

I literally made a post two days ago asking how do people counter wraith cause I felt there is zero counter play. You can't even loop wraith, he can just leave for another person every time you throw down a pallet. At the end of the mtach the entire map is filled with inescapable dead zones.

As wraith you control the entire pace of the match. They can't see you coming or hide in time. Every match is dependent on your decision making skills.

  • dtavares7
    dtavares7 Member Posts: 36

You probably play against rank5+ survivors man, its just different at red ranks

Hiding behind walls does nothing because your sound gives away exactly where you are directionally

  • Laluzi
    Laluzi Member Posts: 6,223

Congratulations, you have literally 2 seconds to comprehend that and run in the correct direction before he comes swinging at you. Wraith isn't a killer you stand still with (unless you're trolling bodyblocking a gate.) You are always in motion.

Even when you run before he reaches you... Wraith doesn't care unless you're in pallet/window range. Worst comes to worst, he stops uncloaking, gets right up to you, and uncloaks again. Maybe even slips in front of you and bodyblocks the exit point you were aiming for.

  • twocansofbean
    twocansofbean Member Posts: 200

Nah I definitely faced alot of red ranks this week. I have to say whenever facing a full red rank team. The match felt fairly balanced, I left with no rank up or rank down.

It doesn't matter if they hear you the first time. Cause the second time you come around. The pallet they dropped last time is broken. so you get a free hit.

You say there's a window near by? Go to window side and decloak there.

most of us bing bong mains do hit n run tactics, it mean you just try to ambush and out position survivors as much as possible who are doing gens, I had games where no pallets would get dropped cause I never chased but still 4Kd

His actually dangerously strong when played correctly

Bruh just bring the 2 breaking pallets and vaulting speed addons and you'll be so ######### fast

Yea man, killing a green and purple rank survivor definitely proves wraith is viable...... If you know the game, you know that m1 killers like wraith have no chance against a good team. Any killer in the game can smash a team with weak links (except maybe trickster...lol)

  • Shroompy
    Shroompy Member Posts: 6,686

Brother Wraith is the best he's ever been and thats saying A LOT. He's probably one of the most balanced killers in the game with everything in his kit being average or slightly above average.

He's also very versatile, being able to run pretty much any build.

Also ranks dont matter, any one can get to red ranks within 100 hours of play time

If the generator is inside a jungle gym is very difficult to get a free hit even if the pallet is gone, they have enought time to run to a window or hide behing a wall unless you bodyblock one, and against average skilled survivorrs is a bit difficult. I noticed he is good in maps in which the gens doesn't spawn in jungle gyms so frequently but other maps like Crotus Prenn is a complete hell when playing wraith, not only due the frerquent gen spawn in jungle gyms, but also the frequent infinites in the center of the maps. That all supposing you don't use addons.

I think using bone clapper is almost mandatory at least fo getting more free hits if you don't have better addons, and it addon combines good with Swift Hunt addons and of course using a coxcombed clapper instead of bone clapperr is better, but it's an ultra rare.

The All Seeing "strategy" some people mention is good but relies in very rare and ultra rare addons and I don't like the builds relying in addons above Yellow-Green.

Wraith has good mobility now making him at worse an auto B tier killer as good mobility is one of the best possible attributes a killer can have.

Mobility and Movement speed are the kings of DbD.

Wraith was good even before the buff. I think SWF was tough for him, but definitely not solo que.

This topic just sounds as if the author had a bad wraith game and needed to vent.

I'm very happy with how Wraith is right now and my only bad games with him lately happened because I was trying to adept him. With the right perk loadout, he's a beast. Add-ons make his game even more dangerous.

Just don't be obvious and try to approach survivors head on. Make sure you make your way to gens using the least obvious path possible. Even though you're invisible, act as if you're not.

As long as there is a Purple in a thousand of Red, you cant prove anything. No one notice your hard work, only notice your mistake.

I did- I saw green ranks mixed in lol. Even if it were red ranks, you don’t have to be a good survivor to reach red.

only 2 arguably 3-4 depending on the map and rng actually stand a chance against a good team that all now what they're doing, and they are RARE very rare, trust me bud the teams that body you aren't some insane team half the time they probably aren't even swf.

  • woundcowboy
    woundcowboy Member Posts: 1,994

I body 99% of teams and can do so with almost any killer. I am a Nurse main and I can tell you that there many games that make me glad I picked her. There are too many situations in the game that are unwinnable for the majority of killers. Wraith is one of them.

  • gilgamer
    gilgamer Member Posts: 2,209

You even said so yourself thats a problem for most killers and unwinnable situations can arise purely from RNG its sucks but thats the game, Wraith is a far cry from where he was and I would pick him over most killers in the game

Dude, you do realize that everyone frlmrank 14 onwards faces red rank survivors every game? There sre very little times since i hit green ranks that i have gone against any green or low purple ranks, and when i do find em, they most of the time are just a de ranked account for some random ass swf.

    Huh viable check list

    Speed/check

    Consistency/check

Excels at something more than others/check

A power that is multi purpose/ check

    115/check

So what makes him bad again?

  • MrPsych
    MrPsych Member Posts: 265

According to this guy he takes like 12 whole seconds to uncloak and is so loud you could hear him at Coldwind Farm while he's in Gideon Meat Plant. That's clearly how bad he is!

Considering most Wraiths I have encountered just hook then cloak right next to the hook waiting for saves,,, he is pretty OP to me. Any killer you have a hard time seeing except for the blur and that low pitch growl is very dangerous and if you add to that some occasional camping/tunneling when you never have to do that with this type of killer,, he is very strong.

  • solidhex
    solidhex Member Posts: 891

I play him at rank 1. He is not trash but he is not good either (if you don't use his best add-ons all the time). I lose matches with him that i wouldn't have lost with chase killers. Hit&run is only so strong, good survivors can play around it and destroy your pressure by playing it very safe. Especially if you don't get your first down fast and just injure everyone, the game can be over pretty quick, but depends on map/ RNG a bit (as always with this game). People already told here how to play him, but as i said, even if played correctly he is nothing against a good chase or 1-hit killer. You have to really work and constantly make decisions with him. Map pressure is not as strong as chase powers, look at all the 110% chase killers and how well they perform. The buffs of the last month were great and he is much more fun to play now but especially if you wanna play him with other add ons than the 5 best, you will have a hard time against a good team.

  • KnotEnthusiast
    KnotEnthusiast Member Posts: 464

Good wraiths also know timing for windstorm lunges that invalidate any short loop. He has insane map presence with the base windstorm kit, and insanely strong addons in all-seeing. Anyone who doesn't think Wraith is viable top tier hasn't bothered to learn ways to play him successfully, and just expects spirit levels of instant gratification.

  • TicTac
    TicTac Member Posts: 2,414

Wraith is decent. But you feel it when you play against good survivor. I play him without addons for a winstreak and i can clearly see the difference. I have many matches where i absolutely destroy but then i have some survivor who make it really hard. If i would get a match with 4 of them and they would do gens i would lose. But there are many killer who wouldnt have a chance against that.

  • zestros
    zestros Member Posts: 18

I shot from early 5 to early 3 and still climbing when I switched from Trickster to Wraith so I wonder what rank the author is basing the post on.

  • TicTac

The best 10% survivor at rank 1, i guess. But thats what i mean with good survivor, idk what op means.

Why is it that anything strong "ruins the health of the game"?

But I can definitely see startruck being absolutely abused by killers with aura reading and mobility. Which wraith has both of with add ons.

Still, it is a nice change when getting bullied for playing handicapped trickster then getting nothing but whiney complaints when dominating with a stronger killer in a "How do you like me now" sort of way.

    He's never been trash tbh.

Not sure if you played him more than once, but i had no problem to keep up with very well coordinated swf teams at rank 1.

Barely ever depiped when I played as him.

This was all prior to the buff he got, haven't played the buffed version yet as I haven't touched the game for about 2 months now.

If you know how to play him well then he's a real treat.

He's my most played killer and it won't surprise me if I even have the highest kill rate among all the other killers.

Not among other people but I mean as my personal record.
