Kinda embarrassed to say this but I'm not that good at looping as Survivor
I've always played survivor super casually, and never have made it a goal to reach high ranks. Once I did, I started to hit a roadblock in that I'm not that good at looping the killer. I know how to run tiles, but I don't know when to abandon a loop or drop the pallet. Can any survivor mains help?

Always use your first chase and your first health state to study the killer, does he double back a lot? does he respect pallets? does he swing through pallets? etc. you rarely ever want to drop pallets when your healthy since the speed boost you get from getting hit nets you a lot of distance and can even get you to a safer spot.
As for abandoning loops, if you see a killer REALLY likes trying to mindgame behind something that breaks line of sight, if you have another loop near by start running towards it, and if the killer loses you dont stay at that next loop, keep running.
Chases are all about wasting as much time as possible and being efficient with your resources

There isn't any reason to be embarrassed about it; I suspect most people aren't that good at looping as Survivors. I, myself, have never been good. After a lot of study, begging help, and practice I've managed to become competent. That is as far as it goes. It isn't my greatest strength by a long stretch. Here is a link to some helpful videos, some of which I used:

I suck at looping as killer.
We should play together.

seriously you two should add each other and get into a custom game. pick legion since he can choose not to down on hit and use his power only to hit confirm and not in the loop itself. bring self care and botany knowledge.

Just learn these patterns and you will develop naturally as you play.

It's the kind of thing you get a lot better at with game knowledge and experience-- I was pretty trash at it for a while 'till I started watching some good players and saw a lot of really good looping.
But don't feel under any pressure to get godlike at it-- DbD's a casual game, and if you like it casual have fun with it.

even after playing this game for 2 years im still not the best at looping, i have very slow reaction time when they try to mindgame, im usually to focused to see where their red stain is, when i bring deadhard im never near a pallet or window when i have to use it so i end up buying myself an extra 2 seconds out on the open
i watch people like zubat and old noob3 videos and everytime they loop the killer for the whole game, yet when i get chased i go down in 10 seconds, i stay at red ranks every reset but thats mostly cause i do a lot of saves and gens and 50% of the time im pretty good at hiding or just generally knowing where the killer is (unless im caught first)
i do have my moments where i can keep the killer busy for a bit but generally if im found im probably going down in under a min
