Balancing considering Hillbilly

I know the majority of players that played before the dreaded hillbilly nerf loved playing as and against billy. The devs even commented how he was one of the funnest and healthy killers in the game, designed so the better player came out on top in a chase. When they changed Hillbilly they neutered a truly fun killer. Max is one of the least seen killers (at least in my matchmaking pool which consists of red rank killers) and it makes me sad. Back before the rework The Hillbilly required such precision a complete outplay of a survivor may not result in a down and that’s okay because you had unlimited use of the chainsaw, not anymore, especially with use of engravings the chainsaw overheat is not “manageable” as supporters of the nerf would tell you. Not to mention over half his add ons essentially do nothing and all good players will tell you as such. Furthermore he was never overpreforming because even with the insane add ons he had he was still very difficult. The nerf made him impossibly hard to compete with good survivors. Revert the rework and if it’s really that big of a deal, make it so cool down and charge time add ons do not stack. It’s an utter tragedy what happened to Max Thompson Jr. and to this day it has all but ruined my DbD experience.

All they need to do is make the overheat mechanic like Leatherfaces tantrum mechanic where if you rev the chainsaw to much you overheat.

I don’t care if they make him op or something, but man i just want to face a Billy again.

All they need to do is make his overheat less punishing. I’d make it so that chainsaw sprinting stalls your overheat as opposed to gaining heat

There are certainly some killer who dont play billy bc of the overheat mechanic. But what really gutted him were his addon nerfs. The skill cap of billy was his curving and without his addons there are less tiles where it works. Instasaw and crack billy needed a nerf, but the nerf was too much.

So even without overheat billy wouldnt be much better then now.

No it will destroy curving and mind games,if they do this they might as well remove hillbilly from the game

    Bingo.

Can't stand when a survivor is stupid but gets away with it because the devs need to baby new potential whales. If you ever get cornered at a pallet just vault and you always get away.

but once you dash with the chainsaw you lose all your overheat and you only get it back once you start reving again

so every time i will rev the chainsaw when in a chase and almost overheat i should: 1)either let the chainsaw cooldown Or 2)dash.........in both cases due to the inability to do anything because of the cooldown survivors will escape me easily.

hillbilly and bubba requires different play styles, bubba cant curve like billy.

Billy is still a high tier killer. The reason he's hardly seen is that he's harder to play, not that he's weak. Nurse and Blight are both fairly uncommon despite both being S tier and that's because they're hard to play. Billy is A tier, but just as hard to play. But I feel like the bigger issue isn't how strong he is, but how much easier equally strong killers are. Why play Billy when you can play Bubba. He's a bit stronger than Billy and way easier to play. Honestly I feel that Billy is fine, if anything I feel that Bubba should be changed to require a bit more skill to play. HIs overall strength is fine but he's too damn easy to play.

He still feels the same as ever. The stupid scream could be gone and i wouldn't miss it, but his ability hasn't really changed. His addons got nerfed, rightfully. But otherwise he's exactly the same. Overheating has to be forced, you can forget about its existence.

While i totally question the billy change itself apart from addons, gameplay wise he is still balanced.

nah a seasoned billy player will disagree. the whole point of chainsawing in loops was to either curve or back rev, the draw back being the saw hit box is tiny. using engravings which good players did/do overheat isnt manageable i cant just stop sawing when someone’s in a dead zone cause i missed one curve a couple seconds earlier.

You need to miss way more than one chainsaw to overheat. Or hold it for reaaally long times and you could still miss a chainsaw and not overheat. Tbh if you overheat, you made multiple mistakes in a row and its probably not overheat beeing the problem. You shouldnt be missing that many chainsaws to where overheat becomes an issue.

Remove overheat, the add on change was fine. I miss playing against Billy.

    If you're a M1lly then Overheat won't be a problem for you.

I play him almost chainsaw only, but overheating is on another level of chainsaw usage. You dont want to walk around revved up with survivor movespeed. You need about 4 revs to overheat, thats too many wrong decisions if you cant connect any of them. Shouldnt have started the chainsaw if it cant land. If you misscalculate once or twice its fine, still halfway. But the whole overheat bar, thats a lot of missplay imo

Based on past usage, I can understand the nerfing, but the add-on changes and the addition of Overheat seem like overkill.

He's become a killer that I wouldn't recommend to either beginners or experts...

not true at all unless, again, you’re not using an engraving. the overheat doesn’t normally matter unless you’re using an engraving. the thing about that though is if you take away engravings there are literally no good add ons left not to mention, no engravings billy is extremely boring always has been.

Ok, you're opinion. I'm playing him without addons since release and that is the blast for me. Engravings are fun to watch and another layer of billy that can be mastered, but since i never use addons, i cant comment on how much overheat affects that. I never found insta or engravings billy enjoyable on the other hand, just too much power. I'd rather play Oni if i wanted engravings billy or arrowkey billy from back in the day. But i cant imagine how much you must be revving to overheat, that takes soo long. If its just back and forth revving at loops until the survivors messes up slightly, im actually glad thats timelimited. I never really liked those attritionsaws because of survivors impatience, i prefer clean ones.

go watch a billy use engravings or play them yourself. it takes 3 saws to overheat with doubles and 4 with 1 engraving. billy doesn’t have a single useable add on if you don’t use engravings that’s not balanced.

Can you recommend me a streamer who uses engravings? I'm not very motivated to play engravings billy tbh, i prefer base billy and dont want to mess with muscle memory.

Seems like you're having issues with his addons mainly. I would suggest to just play him basekit, but if thats no fun for you, then the nerf hit you indeed. I usually just judge killers on basekit only exactly for that reason. At some point, nerfs to iri heads, moris, omegablink, instasaw etc will happen and you dont want to get used to them and then power down once they're gone.
