Why do we like this Game again?
Someone remind me. I'm having a hard time remembering why I liked this game to begin with.
Played Killer a lot today- I play Spirit and Plague, but I'm not great at it yet. I'm not the best at first person. Also, I find there is a mobility discrepency between PC and console (I'm on console). I have problems hitting PC survivors because they seem to be able to spin all over the place. And when I'm matched, even though I'm just Rank 13, I always get an SWF group with a HaddonHell offering, where two of the group are red ranks, one is green, and one is yellow. I admit I have a difficult time with Lampkin Lane because even though I'm apparently a Spirit, I get caught on the slightest rock or bush.
Then of course, I hear the *click click click* of a flashlight, the Rank 2 wanting me to follow them on an endless loop. It's BS.
So I switch to survivor, where I'm red ranks, and it's nothing but Camp/tunnel. Camp/tunnel. Camp/Tunnel.
In all of this I feel Solo survivors get shafted the most in this game, yet at the same time, are the backbone of it. Even at my Rank as Killer (low lol), there is a HUGE difference between facing Solo survivors and a SWF. With Solo, sometimes you almost feel sorry for them (especially on Spirit). SWF? You get that one Steve running OoO, the flashlight looper, and usually the filler material who does gens and is easy to take out first. You know the one; the Rank 14 that the red and purple ranks use to ensure a lower Rank Killer.
But if it weren't for the Solos, I would NEVER play Killer. Because it's too demoralizing to learn against SWF's. But when I play Solo survivor, it feels like a losing battle almost from the start sometimes. It's such a gamble when it comes to the team mates, and I often find I'm trying to survive them almost as much as the Killer.
Even today I had a match where a Rank 1 Dwight literally showed the Killer I was in the locker. Why was I in the locker? Because I had just saved a Meg from the basement, I got hit, and I run inner Strength (Locker heal). So this jackass opens and closes the locker while I'm in it repeatedly, blocking me from getting out, as if I'm hiding for no reason. Then he proceeds to ignore unhooks all game and gets the hatch.
WHY DO WE PLAY AGAIN? Just tell me why you like this. I need to hear it lol.

I just like the gameplay.

I am also here for the "gameplay"

Because we hate ourselves?
😅

Ok that mad me lol, thanks

Sounds accurate.

It's an addiction. I've uninstalled the game at least 4 or 5 times, but I keep coming back.

"Like" is too strong a word.
It's an addiction more than enjoyment. I feel a need to do the achievements, do the challenges, finish the Rift. When I don't have one of those to work on, I don't bother to play.

I like the overall atmosphere of this game. The visual designs, the sounds and music, the general lore (not a fan of the long backstorys, but just the general theme of the lore).
the gameplay is interesting and when you get a fair matchmaking it can be so much engaging, intense and fun! The best matches are those where you don’t Even care if you escaped/got 3 or 4K but when the match actually felt like the outcome couldn’t be predicted from the beginning.
Killer powers and survivor perks also provide enough diverse playstyles for me to not get too boring.

I really enjoy the reactions and actions of others' during game. There is always that thrill when you mindgame someone as killer/survivor and manage to either get away/down someone who was really great. Gives you a feeling of empowerment that other games seem to lack. Everyone remembers there first jumpscare on here or meeting a Hag for the first time and triggering a trap before almost shitting themselves lol; or a Myers grabbing them off of a gen or watching him, watching you while he's staring at you through a small window lol. It's these moments that keep us coming back. Even if you have a ton of stressful games, one really fun match can change your entire demeanor in a positive light. Not every match will be great or super fun but when you get that 1 match that just fills you with so much enjoyment, it makes it all worth it.

Because I've dedicated too much time to it to quit now, I'm determined to keep at it until the game's death.
1 -
Yeah you have a few good points. I'm a chill kind of gamer, so I think i find the sweat off-putting sometimes. But then you get a game where the stars align, and everyone in it are funny people, and that's what I think I keep coming back for.

For me, there’s no other game like it. Sure there’s HSH, but I don’t have a PC yet.
Playing with friends on DBD is fun too, all we ever do is goof around and make each other laugh. Other games are way too serious and competitive for us.

I'm with you, Bro. Those are the moments that I remember forever about this game. Even with all the ######### we get hit with, those moments will last a lifetime. When this game is dead and gone, and none of the new people get to experience it, we can still talk about the stupid crap that we did in those games and laugh. Also, Body Block Hag (the add-on that makes them solid) who puts them in a house before leading you into it and nailing you then watching you panic and run into everyone before you realize you're screwed and turn around to see her just nod her head up and down has to be my most fondest memory. It was so damn good and NEVER thought of doing that with Hag before.

You have to learn to not take this game so seriously. It's basically Mario Party.
Solo survivor is absolutely awful if you go in with the mind set of "winning". Often time you won't because, well, we all know what shenanigans goes on in solo queue. Try fun builds, goofy tactics, csuse odds are you're gonna die anyway so might as well have fun.
Killer is much the same way, except you have more power to do what you want.

i just played a round of pig where every survivor that booped my snoot got spared.
they all booped it.
then they started beckoning for me to put them on hooks. 2hooked each survivor and then went on "chases" around the map to grind some BP and make sure they didn't depip.
and then the server crashed so the game got fully cancelled anywaythe point is, if you're having a rough time with sweaty tryhards, the best remedy... is to not be one! be something else. be a bing bong wraith. be a myers that just watches people. screw around, have fun with it! were those survivors going to annoy me if i weren't playing boop pig? maybe. but i rewrote the script into something that i knew i was gonna have fun with no matter what, and i had fun.0 -
Any other masochists out there dual-wielding League and DbD?

Because I like the gameplay and I dont take it seriously (no game should be taken seriusly), DBD is funnier the less you sweat about it, Survivors escape? big deal, ready and into another match, Killer sacrificed you? big deal, ready and into another match.
Granted there are some tilting situations like getting facecamped or bully squads but in the end its just a game.

I only play this game with a glass of vodka and only on the weekends. That's basically where I'm at.

For some reason this made me laugh so much because I can commiserate

sorry, stealing this thread now to talk about good games
just had a really good match as plague with 2 really good, competent survivors, 1 baby newbie survivor and 1 claudette who hid the whole match and waited for everyone to die so she could get hatch.
i killed 1 of the competent ones... for fun, tbh, i downed and carried the newbie to the hook and then put her down under it instead of killing her, and i let the other competent one go for fun.
because my sights were set on the claudette.
the claudette, quite predictably, was nowhere to be found at all. she had mastered the art of just vanishing into the fog and she was expecting me to be mindless, killing everyone i came across. she'd even made a map offering and had a plan of where she wanted to hide, which i found her in at one point with BBQ. crouching around in front of lockers to stop herself getting idle crows, and then creeping in as soon as my TR approached.
i knew she had to die.
i purposefully "botched" the meg and cheryl's escape and waited for spies from the shadows to inform me of where the claudette was going to be. they let me know, i found her, and i downed her. not only did i down her, i downed her scant inches from the hatch, which she was running to get - a hatch she'd definitely scouted out in advance. a hatch i got to snap shut on her nose before taking her to the hook where she deserves to be after trying to let her teammates die for her own selfish ends.
i'm very happy with what i did and it's one reason why i like this game.

Its because for all its flaws DBD is uniqe you can jump from FPS to FPS but nobody's really replicating dbds gameplay and doing it better

I mostly play to grind for skins because I'm motivated to collect things. Sometimes the game is fun. It's just that you have to memorize the hours in your time zone when you can get good matches and try to play then.

Ha this reminds me of a match I had the other day against a really toxic high skill Jake he was looping me and t bagging on cold wind but somehow also disappearing mid chase I killed 2 other survivors then downed the other survivor put that toxic Jake on hook he got down with deliverance and tried making a run for it but left him slugged in case of DS then hooked him and gave the other player hatch right in front of his hook just to spite him in his toxicness the other player was very nice and thankful in a message

there's a love hate relationship with this game for me.
I like it when I can have fun on either side. I don't have to win every game as killer or survivor but as long as I feel I've at least done something in the round I'm good.
I hate it when over and over I get put with bad team mates and killers that just want to stomp everyone. when I play killer I'm not a fan of the squads that try to get the game over as fast as they can by rushing and just being obnoxious. then having the nerve to call me trash. A lot of the games I play as killer I don't go all in at 110% it's not fun that way.
It feels like a lot of the time people have forgotten that the game is just that a game. you don't NEED to bully killers as survivors(i've been on squads where members get off on that) and as killers you don't NEED to stomp every team that comes at you.
I know everyone's idea of fun can be different but sometimes it goes beyond fun into just plain mean.

BHVR is actually a cult to a real eldritch spider god.
But instead of hope it feeds primarily on frustration. And even though it drives us mad we can't resist it's aluring call.
No worries though, after the 5th anniversery and all the RE fans come in. The Thing In The Code will be powerfull enough.
It will all be over soon.

The game is somewhat addicting despite being unhealthy. Luckily I quit it over a month back, and although I downloaded the game back two weeks later, I didnt really enjoy it and haven't opened the game since.

There’s no game to improve on DBD’s gameplay loop yet. Other games like Friday the 13th and HSH are good but just aren’t as fun or balanced.

I only play the game if there's a Rift going on, in between the breaks I outright ignore DbD since I don't consider it a worthwhile experience while I'm looking for casual fun.

You playing anything else?

We like to hate ourself.

Rocket League, Slay the Spire and Overwatch. The first and the last bring toxicity issues like dbd does, but not as bad.
Whyd you ask?

The game is unique, the most successful game of its genre without a doubt.
Its also got great characters and awesome licenses, and they consistently keep adding more content.
And as other people mentioned, this game is addictive.

There is nothing quite else like it. As a friend showed it to me first like 2 years ago, i was stunned because of the great, asymmetrical concept, the scary themes and atmosphere (remember the first hours of dbd where you were actually scared of doing anything? ), the licensed characters, the gameplay...
Over the time (but this is not dbd specific, you have that with every game) you recognize and learn the mechanics behind it and it get's a bit stale, but it's still much more diversified than a lot of other games on the market. You can play it in a lot of different ways.
I think the frustration it causes is also one of the main factors why people get addicted. You'll have some sense of achievement first but then there are those inevitable frustrating moments. The game is designed in a way, with all it's RNG and 4 vs 1-mechanics, that you will experience a lot of unfair situations where it's just not possible to win, or where other people will make the experience a nightmare for you. Then you want to get better and you start to learn about the game. You make progress but then you hit a wall again and the circle repeats... that was at least my experience for my first year of dbd.
I don't play it so much anymore, maybe 3-4 matches every second day, but i still follow the forums and the development of the game. Whenever there's something new i'm a bit hyped about the new killer, perks, maps and so on. But i realized you're better off (mentally), if you don't take this game too serious and don't dig too deep into it, especially if you're a competitive person - this game is too random and frustrating.

Because it's a fun game, I've invested a lot of time and money into it, and I want it to be the best version of itself so that it can be a fun and enjoyable horror-themed experience.

Bc Friday the 13th is dead and I can't abandon sally like that.

Because it’s the king of its genre and we are all addicted to the concept of this game
