Why do you hate spirit?
I am not about to defend spirit. I just want to know why you, you in particular, doesn't like spirit. What are your personal reasons/experiences for why you hate spirit.
For me, I don't. I main her.

I don't really hate going against her, but I also don't really enjoy it either, what I don't like about her is her busted add-ons and pretty much one sided chases, that's pretty much it.
1 -
she's unfun as #########, has no counterplay, i've been forced to face samantha about 12 times and hated every second of it, and i dislike her lore
9 -
because i don't like random luck-based elements in my primarily skill-based videos games
Spirit is the DBD equivalent of Random Crits, change my mind
3 -
Reminds me of Moaning Myrtle
1 -
no counterplay
2 -
I hate her Whaaa. I don't like her standing still "mind game". Lastly most Spirit players tend to be super sweaty.
3 -
Firstly, she does have counterplay.
My problem with her is, you don't know what Spirit is doing half the time. So you also don't know if your counterplay or attempt at it is working, until the last second, when she stops phasing.
When you are injured, there is even less you can do against Spirit.
For me, it is the lack of interactivity with the killer. It is the same reason I LOVE playing against killers like Billy, Oni, Blight and Demo.
1 -
Her unreasonable "counterplay" and also her unfair add-ons.
4 -
Tbh it's not her that I hate in particular, its more that every spirit player you go against is using the same perks over and over again with her strongest addons and tends to play very sweaty( because spiritis a killer who totally needs ruin, undying and tinkerer🙄). The rare more casual spirits I actually don't mind going against, even enjoy sometimes
1 -
I don't.
2 -
I generally don't hate Spirit. She's one of the killers that I enjoy playing against because she more of a "think outside the box" and "take risk" killer rather than hold Shift + W and flick your mouse backwards for spoon fed counterplay.
2 -
There's nothing skill based about survivor's besides skill-checks and flashlights!
0 -
Spirit is unbalanced, too powerful for her low skill ceiling, and doesn't take that much skill to play to begin with. She also has zero counterplay, and Stridor on her is ridiculously overpowered. Good Spirits that don't run Stridor still know how to play around it.

wah
2 -
Because getting chased by her is literally just a guessing game.
Spirit mains are even worse than Spirit herself tho.
1 -
For me personally its not even her power. I hate her passive phasing its just free mindgames and makes it a pain in the ass to stun her cause randomly she is teleported like a meter closer or further.
0 -
You really shouldn't say that. As much as I understand your frustration, it gives you no right to call out Spirit mains like that. They are just playing their favourite killer.
2 -
Damn, guess all those hours of learning how to loop, how to counter each killer, how to be as time efficient as possible, how to maximize chase time, and other skills just don't count as skill :/
1 -
I don't hate anyone for playing their favorite character,I'm just saying many Spirit mains blindly defend her.
0 -
because theres no counter to a good spirit, it’s essentially just rolling a dice and hoping she messes up
also, most spirit players tend to run really sweaty builds, which also makes it unfun
0 -
I dont think Spirit is luck based on the slightest, the Spirit player is still aware of what they are doing and needs to work to get their downs. It's just easier to end chases with her if you are good at audio cues.
If you count Spirit as luck based than you can start dropping a whole heap of killers in there with her lol
1 -
I don't hate spirit unless it's samantha, another person with an absolute gamer headset or crack add ons.
Bad to mediocre spirits are easily mindgameable and guessable. Good ones with 2k headsets are not.
0 -
I'm no fan of her power, but I'm surprised less people are (at least vocally) irritated with the passive phasing. It definitely looks cool, but I think add-ons shouldn't effect it, and maybe tone it down a bit
0 -
Her counterplay is guessing what she's doing when she stands still, which doesn't even matter anyway because she can see what you're doing when she stands still, giving her full information and giving the survivor 0.
Her ability numbers-wise is so damn overtuned idek where to begin. The activation add-ons and speed add-ons are also dumb.
The lack of any kind of recovery when coming out of her power makes it extremely forgiving.
Her skillcap is "do you have a working pair of headphones", making her not even fun or rewarding to play as, never mind against.
Her passive phasing is annoying, and can go off at the most convenient times to throw you off.
Her face is stupid. She has a few cool cosmetics though.

Sorry if I’m uneducated but what or who is “samantha”?
0 -
every spirit match is the exact same
- she sees you
- she stands still
- you make a 50/50 guess
- did she hit you? if yes move to step 5 if not go back to step 2
- you are now injured, dose she have stridor or you don't have iron will? if yes you are now F* if no go back to step 2
1 -
Sorry to say but not all spirit mains are the same. I don’t do the stand still stuff its boring and it makes a mockery of myself. Also I don’t run Stridor because its cheap.
0 -
Its because there isnt much you can do against a spirit, there is some mindgames or stupid tricks you can always try but its never guaranteed help. The Spirit's skill really just comes from having ears and thats it.
1 -
stands still regardless if she is faking or not because when she uses her power she leaves a husk
0 -
She rewarding easy gameplay so much. You do not know what she doing when she phasing. 0 counterplay. Broken add-ons. So fun against her.
1 -
Idk it's because she's unpredictable and even a baby spirit would ######### you up
1 -
Samantha is a spirit main who plays for oracle, she has a $2k headset and can pretty much hear everything you do at all times. She had the most post phase spirit downs by a long shot but something happened with her account and she's also busy rn.
She also had the highest amount of kills. Dhope kills, mori kills, etc. So if you saw a schoolgirl spirit with the thicc sword and a mori it was probably her.
I haven't played against her but I know other people have and it looks like the perfect definition of unfun.
(also no hate to her obv Ive heard shes actually a really nice person)

Thanks for clarifying, she sounds scary to play against.
0 -
she's a competitve dbd player who mains the life out of spirit and "practices" vs public lobbies because fun is overrated. ruin/dying/stridor/thrilling or some such build, off-the-wall crazy add-ons every game, gameusersettings.ini has audio quality set to max, equilisers everywhere to get the most value and hear you from about half the map away. it's just a death sentence if youre not an absolutely god-tier sweat squad which, again, public lobbies.
it's not fun :)
not hate to her as a person, i dont know her. she could give like £60k to charity a month for all i know, im speaking from my own personal experience playing her in-game. please don't try and find or harass her.

I don't consider looping skillful because, I don't sense or feel myself using my brain outplay the killer, I'm just going off of information that's given to me.
I'm at a mind-gameable loop. Oh well, let me wait and peek around the corner fits spoonfed counterplay instead of basing everything off of expirence.
But God forbid a killer that actually makes you make a educated guess, is problematic because I'm not getting the direct counterplay information I need in order to loop the killer for 5 gens.
1 -
You do know that RNG is the biggest decider on who wins with literally every killer except Nurse and Spirit, right?

Honestly, I'd rather go against a Spirit than a Wraith these days.
By the time you can see him, he's already in striking range. The speed boost he gets from uncloaking is unreal and it's almost impossible to avoid him.
I recently had a match where I bumped into him 30 seconds into the game. Got hooked, then rescued, and turned a corner and his shimmer was right there. Started running, but within 4 seconds he uncloaked and knocked me down. Repeat for third hook, got about 200 BPs out of that match.

Why I don't like Spirit:
- When she passively phases in-and-out while walking, she temporarily vanishes each time for a second against aura reading perks (like kindred and OoO) - it's kind of annoying.
- Her power has no real discernible audio or visual cues to warn you what is happening and how**
- Her power, even if it did have cues, is still incredibly strong in that she's faster than Wraith, retains that speed for a bit even after her power ends, and can attack immediately at any time
** I know there is apparently an (intentional or not) glitch where her animation restarts VERY briefly when she uses her power and/or that her glass shards glow a bit when used on certain skins. It is extremely unrealistic to rely on these, as they are not only nearly impossible to spot at a distance (if not impossible to some entirely) but also unrealistic to expect to do so while in a chase. Close up, unless they're at a pallet, she's typically able to M1 just fine without using her power because her base movement speed is still decent. Even at a pallet, it's still on the survivor to not only discern these slight tells, but also gamble where she'll appear after using her power.
Basically there's just no realistic way to know what's happening when vs a spirit, and it's a one-sided interaction where they're basically in complete control over how they do.
To sum up my experience vs her:
It's like walking down the street, someone whistles behind you, you turn around and you get punched in the face randomly. To make matters worse, his buddy is on the sidewalk saying "if you looked carefully enough, you could have seen his arm tense up briefly when you turned around and reacted to it - get gud." Meanwhile I walk away with a broken nose wondering ######### their problem is.
It's just not an enjoyable experience.

Having no counterplay, very strong map mobility and insane proxy camping capabilities make her a no skill ez-modo which tends to attract the worst sweatlords to ever walk the fog.
The combination of all its what makes me dislike her so much.
1 -
No tells where she is. That's it. Look at it this way. What if Wraith could go invisible then immediately whack you once he sees you just because he could uncloak really fast? It wouldn't be fun and even in Wraiths' case, he snarls up a storm, moves grass and corn. Spirit just stands still, hisses then immediately can come from any direction to hit you. Is she behind you? In front of you? Coming from the side? You don't know and when you get hit without any way to tell, it isn't fun or enjoyable because you didn't get outplayed by a smart play. You got hit by an invisible killer while you moan half a block down the street. That's why she's hated.
(Edit: Wraith can even be seen shimmering near an area when close enough so you know the direction so you can react while Spirit does nothing but appear and hit.)

Counterplay is up to chance and addons are broken, passive chase bonuses (fact that she phases in and out while moving), grating moaning noises, dopey mori, weird base design.
I don't like her, I think aside from Legion she's the only killer I actively despise on all fronts

How can people hate spirit so much when freddy, twins and deathslinger exist. I want to play with any other killer than those three I just can't take it anymore.
0 -
You can see each of those killers, and track their movements with your eyes. Even Deathslinger can be avoided to some degree by trying to remove line of sight using trees, walls, or whatever else to lower the chance or increase the delay of being quick-scoped.
To put it in other words, even if I'm about to get F'd by those killers I'll at least still see it coming to some degree.
With spirit, it's just a 'happy' little surprise from behind every time
0 -
If you have played spirit, most of the time you know where she is at and you can hear her feet during phase
0 -
Ayy, it's the buddy on the sidewalk.
Nice seeing you again, wouldn't be the same otherwise.
0 -
I like playng her (maybe she is my main now), because she is very strong and make you feel every red ranks game cane be very fun (they can genrush you, you can hookrush them, notte need to hard tunnel camp every game like with other killers cause genrush And no map control). I didnt like go against her because seriously there is not direct counterplay (only guess).
0 -
she breaks a fundamental rule of the game which the entirety of DBD is balanced around
the killer is in first person, and the survivors are in third person, for a reason.
spirit completely ignores that. it doesn't matter that the survivors are in third person because you can't see her anyway, and it doesn't matter that she's in first person because she can't see you anyway. conceptually she doesn't belong, and in practice, she's impossible to deal with.
also the thing i hate the most is the fact that she has those fidgets which make her drop her red stain and make her disappear. the fact she gets mindgames for free as part of just walking around is the cherry on top. she didn't need that, she also didn't need to be completely invisible, she also didn't need to have no fatigue state, she also didn't need to be extremely fast, she also didn't need to be able to see scratch marks or hear survivors, she also didn't need... you get the idea.
literally she's just a much faster paced wraith with no warning, and wraith is already almost too fast paced and balanced only because of his warning.
you've seen how heated people get when killers ask for a non-sickening FoV, just imagine what'll happen when people finally realise that spirit not only counters the survivor third person camera, she also doesn't even need to be in first person at all.

Looping is objectively a skill based technique, it takes time to learn it and even more time to master looping. Knowing when to chain loops and use the least amount of resources possible is skillful, throwing down every single pallet on the map is not. You may not consider looping skillful, but your opinion doesn't change the fact that it IS.
And Spirit is just awfully designed, unless you have a bias she, and many other things in this game are awfully designed. Her power gives absolutely no information which makes the chase a guessing game where the odds are stacked against the survivor. Look at Nurse, she's objectively the best Killer in the game yet she still offers the survivors plenty of information to go off of, such as whenever she's holding a blink, showing the survivor the blink location, and audio cues whenever she blinks. Despite all of this she is still the best Killer in the game.
1 -
Because I don't like chases that involve just making a guess and hoping for the best.
