SURVEILLANCE
Until recently, OhTofu was doing a weekly "Shrine Showcase" series in which he would describe, demonstrate and assess the usefulness of killer perks in the Shrine of Secrets. This was particularly useful for players who still do not have many add-on killers unlocked, but he hasn't posted a new video in over a month. So, I am asking for feedback about Surveillance. Is it worth the shards?

On it's own it might not be so great, but together with perks that help you start regressing gens it's amazing, notably Ruin, Surge, Opression. Or if you gonna kick generaors regardless, like with Pop or Overcharge, it might also be useful. It's a rather unnoticable perk for the survivors. If you have the shards to spare, sure get it. It's one of the better perks for killers, thats for sure.

Surveillance is decent perk that has a place in a few builds. I'd reccomend picking it up if you don't own The Pig, since she is licensed and you would need to buy her to get it otherwise.

Its probably my favorite information perk. You can see what gens are regressing, they go yellow when they stop regressing and survivors make more noise when repairing gens.
3 -
Many other information perks outshine it: most notably, Tinkerer and perhaps even Dragon’s Grip.

Surveillance is very underrated, especially on low mobility and defensive Killers, it gives info on what needs pressure which is gens, as a low mobility Killer knowing someone is on the other half of the map after a hook is useless for they will be long gone.
Also is the only detection perk with no CD and no way of playing around, all others can be played around or countered.

Small note: right now the perk seems to be bugged, when a gen regresses down to zero, it's going to get highlighted to yellow no matter what, instead of red, even if nobody touched it (it should just go back to red and don't become yellow at all)

its underrated, but outclassed if you’re not running another perk for synergy with it. which is why i dont think people like it much
if its in a good build though Surveillance can be fun to use and is uncounterable from the survivors side, so its just free information
overall its up to you, its not really a good perk if used on its own

Surveillance isn't great on its own, but it pairs wonderfully with Ruin, and also with Pop or any perk that incentivizes kicking gens. Freddy's also a great user of it thanks to his ability to teleport to gens as soon as he gets the notification someone's there.
A typical game with Surveillance/Ruin gives you an incredible info game early on - gens you chase people off of will become free game for you, and it will also alert you to gens that have been tapped by survivors checking for Ruin for an even earlier heads up where survivors are. Your info game drops off severely whenever Ruin gets cleansed, but Surveillance starts coming in clutch again by the time there's 1-2 gens left - now it's a focused enough area to patrol, and gen kicking either regresses gens to nothing or tells you whenever anyone gets on a gen. Survivors won't be able to do objectives without you knowing - it's just a matter of whether you're in a position to do anything about that information, or if you're spread too thin to react.
The fun thing about Surveillance is that it's difficult for survivors to tell you have it; it's not like Tinkerer or Discordance or BBQ where there's an obvious tell based on the killer's movements. After all, a gen that had progress on it that was regressing is already a target for the killer's interest and it makes sense for them to double back to it. Even when survivors do figure out you have ESP when it comes to partially regressed gens, there's very little survivors can do to counter this perk. The only way to turn Surveillance off is to let the gen go back to nothing, and who wants that? It can be a very difficult perk to work against in the endgame if the killer has enough pressure. A smart and coordinated team can send one person to a regressing gen as a patsy while the rest hammer out a gen that had no progress, but this gets harder to deal with the more people are out of the game.

Its an amazing perk and pairs well with many others.
I think its extra useful on certain killers that can move quickly around the map (Freddy, Demo, Blight, even the Twins). Really it works for all tho.
If you get it make sure you keep it in tier 1! At tier 3 its not as good. Same goes for discordant.

Not true for Discordance anymore. Now each tier increases its aura reading range.

Surveillance is one of my favorites. There's just so much value in knowing when a gen stops regressing. And of course the Ruin synergy cannot be overlooked.
6 -
What makes Surveillance more effective at Tier 1, than it is at Tier 3?
0 -
With ruin or surge yes otherwise you would want discordance
And the difference between 1-3 is how long the gen stays yellow if someone touches itn
1 -
It's pretty good, especially on stealthy killers and in combination with perks that make gens regress (Ruin, Surge, Oppression...)

Definetly one of my personal favourite perks and is synergy central.
1 -
Surveillance is decent on its own merits, but where it really shines is in its synergy with other regression perks.
It's not really a focal perk that you'd build around in a loadout; it's more of something you add in to boost the efficacy of other perks you were already bringing (Ruin, Surge, Pop, Oppression, Overcharge, etc).
Definitely a perk worth having in your arsenal though.

Thank you for the heads up :D ♡
Didn't know of that.

I’m gonna go against the grain and say that I think it’s a mediocre perk that is outshone by many others and not worth unlocking. I wouldn’t waste shards on it, personally.
1 -
At tier 1 the gen stays highlighted for 8 seconds and tier 3 it stays highlight for 16 seconds.
It is better to have less highlighted time so you have a better idea of when the gen was touched. I kick a lot of gens in my matches and I'm not always paying attention. If I turn around and realize a gen is yellow then I at least know it hasn't been too long since a survivor got on it and there is a chance they are still there.
Another good thing to keep in mind:
As strong as surveillance is it also gives power to survivors if they know you have it and can use it to mess with you... as soon as I know a killer has it I keep them busy playing hide and seek. Touch gen, urban away, watch from afar as killer looks for me, go touch gen again and repeat :P

Yeah it's worth on it's own it's okay. But has great synergy with Ruin, Surge, and Oppression

Thanks, everyone, for the very useful feedback and info!

It's very dependent on your play style. In situations where survivors are trying to stealth it out and you're comfortable kicking gens a lot, meaning you're being territorial instead of taking long chases and defending an area, it's an excellent information perk.
0 -
Surveillance is a good perk combined with ruin.
But also if you haven't got ruin it works well with brutal strength.
Kick the gen faster and as soon as it turns yellow then you know where to find survivor(s)

I highly reccomend it. It is up there among the best information perks so long as you stay on top of noting which gens are supposed to be regressing and do not show the appropriate aura color. Has great synergy potential.
