This gnome challenge is stupid
I'm getting pissed off so much because of these reasons.
1.they never said anything about the challenge starting because I didn't see anything on the notification area.
2.It impossible to find him part 3 explains more.
3.Seriously all you get is a little noise to say he spawned but it's not like the crowns for the crowns they stuck out they were easily seen for the gnome he is the size of a barrel hides in spaces that don't exist at all.
4. Instead of the end game happening to spawn him have it like the crowns he spawns at the start of the match and teleports around and after all five players kick him done.
The only difference between the gnome and crown is that it's universal but still they don't make it easy to find him at least have him make a noise when your close to him that's super easy to do and everyone says just play killer it's easier i did three times and nothing.

I don't get why they haven't said anything about it
I'd have had no idea about it had I not been here. I kept hearing weird chimes at EGC and I had zero idea what the hell was going on. I've yet to see the little bugger (though I only played one game yesterday and a handful of games the day before and it sounds like it started Wed?).
I'm more wondering how long this event is going to be. Is this something I need to dedicate a game or two to make sure I get or is this event a week or so and I can just wait until I organically stumble into it myself?

It’s a lot easier as killer since you don’t have to worry about getting chased.
I got it 1st attempt using remember me and closing hatch with only one survivor left.
I’d also recommend a high mobility killer, I used billy but wraith and spirit would probably be better for it.

Me and a couple of feng ran around and found a few they almost died because of it. The bunny feng pointed one out to me so we went and found one for her then found one for other feng. Good times

Its a difficult challenge. It took me about 2 days finally find him on the saloon.
I did the challenge as killer and told the survivors I was only here for the gnome. They all happily agreed to get gens done and then go gnome hunting with me. Even working together it was tough to spot him. Playing normally AND finding gnome is very difficult. I like your suggestion to make him spawn at the start... or maybe even after 3 gens are done.
Having him only spawn at EGC is intense.

Noice! Yah some survivors I talked to over the last 2 days have said they still haven't seen him or that they got him right away :)
Now that I have mine I will continue to help survivors catch the slippery lil guy.

This is the only acknowledgment I've seen from them. Almost makes me think it's not limited but more like the Silent Hill charm, just instead of code you find it during EGC. Would hope if it was limited they'd say something just because it would suck if people missed out if it was only a week due to not knowing it existed.
Play as killer, open door yourself to start egc, look for gnome while survivors teabag in the exit. I've seen gnome mostly by trees, boxes, rocks, or the smaller stuff to loop around in the open. I personally haven't seen it in buildings or jungle gyms.

Yeah, I'm probably just going to burn a killer attempt at some point to just hunt it down during EGC. Play as Mr Ding Dong Man so I can zip around the map like an invisible road runner and track that little gnome down.

It's much easier to get as killer.
More people are playing killer to get the gnome.
Seems like genius to me.
That said, I lucked upon him as survivor against a camping Bubba.

I got it yesterday but I've noticed that very few people seem to actually be looking for it in EGC.
I will say the disparity between the difficulty of getting it as killer (just wander the map and smash it. Survivors are usually dancing at the gate for the entire EGC anyway) vs survivor (run around looking for it, hope the killer isn't trying to run you down, AND escape before time is up) is really silly.

I didnt even know this was a thing until now.
Those random sounds in the middle of the me were irritating especially when you dont even know what they are about. Might be a pain to actually find the gnome but its an interesting idea.

Found one on my first Killer match.

I got it the first day but it was a pain, He doesn't stand out nearly as much as the crowns, I ended up spamming Ormond offerings so he'd show up against the colorless environment.

I think it's a neat bonus thing to throw in. Getting it is neat, but not getting it isn't something that will ever affect your gameplay, so it's not the end of the world if someone doesn't get one (I did get it, but if I hadn't been able to, I wasn't losing sleep over it). Not sure why anyone would get upset over it, but people find a way to complain about anything, I suppose.
I got mine on the 2nd attempt in a game I played as killer yesterday as The Plague on Lery's, a map I would have thought would be a nightmare to find it on. When I switched to survivor later and played with a 4-person group, everyone ended up finding theirs and escaping over the course of the night's matches.
It's clearly easier as killer (as it was with the anniversary crowns), but the fact that getting it on a single character unlocks it for every character, killer or survivor, mitigates that.

Protip: you can smash the gnome while playing as Killer, it's usually much less stressful than trying to find it as survivor.
