would you accept this key nerf?
the survivor holding the purple or skeleton key will only open the hatch and escape for themselves and not the other survivors. this way they could get out but the other 3 cannot unless either 1. they find a key, 2. 2 other survivors left and the hatch is opened. i personally don’t think this would be a bad change but what’s your opinion on it?
Edit: idk if this is supposed to be in the “Ask The Community” section but if it was then oops 😅

No, I would not accept that Key nerf.

hope you don’t mind me asking, but why would you not accept it? like what’s bad about it and is there any good parts in the nerf that come to your mind maybe?

The only Key nerf that I will accept is this:
"Keys can be used to escape the trial once the Exit Gates are opened. The Hatch will immediately close after one Survivor has escaped."

interesting! that doesn’t sound like a bad change either.

For the record, it's fine to post these things in General. I saw your edit.

thank you for the clarification ^

I actually love this. As someone who is really outspoken against keys and moris simply because they cut down on the gameplay I think this is a pretty fantastic compromise!
2 -
I'd be okay with them only allowing one survivor an escape per use, or only opening hatch during end-game collapse.
If it's after the exit gates are open, I don't know what the point to them would be and they'd likely need a rework.

They haven't found a solution for keys yet?
1 -
Agreed.

The only acceptable key nerf is one where all 5 gens must be complete before it can be used.
2 -
I don't know if this is again a problem with your wording but egc and "after the exit gates are open" are the same thing except killer can start egc by closing the hatch irc.
And to your point of them having nearly no point, Moris don't have a real point either. (Btw I never use moris since everytime I do I get survivor way above my skill and already won't be able to pull them off even before the nerf XD) They are simply a kill animation alternative to the third hooking of survivors. Depending on distance to a hook they even are more time consuming and therefore hurting the killer efficiency wise. The only positive is that they deny any attempt or perk assistance for a last save.
Of course keys would have to be made into an offering too if their usefulness would be downgraded this much. Something like an offering that lets 1-4 keys appear on the map in some form and the can be picked up like event specific items like the halo or lanterns but without highlighting particle effects.

Same point as mori's.
Small counter to Bloodwarden like mori's are for DS, but it's basically just a different animation

Fortunately your post contains the highlight of my response:
"except killer can start egc by closing the hatch irc"
Right, and if keys didn't work in this situation I don't know what the point of them would be. If keys only worked when gates were opened, you might as well exit via the gate and keep your key. But in that case, why would I ever use it and what its purpose be?
---
For both of your posts, I don't understand the constant comparisons I always see of keys to using a mori.
How I see it:
Moris focus more on delivering an aesthetically pleasing (or disgruntling, depending on the audience) experiencing for the user. They also just happen to have the benefits of avoiding save attempts, saving time, and avoiding perks such as DS, power struggle, flip flop, etc. The nerfs to moris restricting its usage to death hook support this view too, I think.
Keys, in contrast, are (currently) a misguided way to occasionally reward a survivor for their efforts thus far. The game might have people working together in a 1v4 environment, but the four team-mates aren't exact buddies that are obligated to save each other (SWFs aside).
I'm sure we've all been in situations where we've had games where we performed well but our teammates got slaughtered; or maybe the game was close and three died with a single generator remaining at 99% which the killer could now camp. It's these situations that I believe keys were created to reward the remaining player(s).
That said, I do think the concept is misguided because it allows multiple people to escape and secure a morale victory over and above what it robs from killers when they've put forth so much effort of their own. It's because of this that I want keys to be nerfed to allow a single use, or otherwise only be usable at EGC where upon only one person could survive with it anyway.

4 keys?

Literally just had a game where I managed to force a 3-gen, killed one.
Instant key escape. Nothing I can do.
Keys should only be for a slight BP gain and should only be able to be used after the Gates are powered.
Obliterate them.
I'd rather they be removed entirely

Yeaaah that scenario ain't right.
While I still advocate their existence, I don't think their current iteration allowing more than one to escape is appropriate - sympathies.

Personally, I don't think it should even be in the game.
Unless it has a long channel animation and makes a noise notification, Keys shouldn't be able to be used in the EGC

think about it.. you are a survivor with 4 friends irl.. if you can escape on a door why would you close that door after you escaped? no logic but i like the idea ingame

I would not accept this key nerf.
Reason being that the core problem of keys is still there. The game still just suddenly is over. The other survivors that were left behind probably won't stand a chance anymore and a fun thrilling game just stops.
As long as a survivor can escape without doing all the gens or being the last one alive keys will be a problem.
Also your idea messes up an achievement and it's quite a hastle to change those.
All that needs to happen is that hatch only spawns after all gens are done or a single survivor is left. Funny thing is that's a simple number change

My first idea to make key color have any impact on the top of my head. Of course this is broken when all 4 survivor would bring a pink key and suddenly 16 keys would have to spawn randomly on the map XD

There are achievements and archive challenges tied to keys. Achievements that they're unable or unwilling to change on console.
Any alteration to key mechanics needs to take that into account.
In this regard, as well as others, moris were much more straightforward to change.

Replace aura reading key add ons with something else and make hatch opening animation, 10-15 seconds
2 -
The dangerous thing about the key's ,in the current state is ,if two survivors remain and one gen is left then the two can escape even three, but maybe that's been changed but,I doubt it and it would be probably pretty difficult to change the hatch spawning rng,I wouldn't want it changed much myself .The best thing to do right now is making keys work only with a specific rare add on and delaying the opening of the hatch by 30 secs, by increasing the rarity and delaying the time ,could make using keys more of a challenge and less powerful instead of it being a get out of jail free card.

no because that survivor would still be escaping before finishing the gens and it can screw over their teammates like they already do now of course.

i've always wanted to change my user but i cant sadly so ill just have to deal with it lol
