Gates are powered/open, you got hooked in the basement, killer proxy camps
Why don't you just give up?
I mean, i'm totally leaving, i'm not that dumb, but it pains me to see other survivors getting killed by that.
Is it because "muh points"?

couldn't answer you, because i agree with you, and i'll absolutely die on hook if it's me. guys, just leave! it's fine! unless i'm hooked directly in front of the gate and you have BT, just don't worry about it! just get out!
(sees everyone hanging around so they can teabag and i don't get any "survive while other people escape" points for my archive challenge) (loud sigh)

I do it because I want my teammates to have a chance. I once had a basement trapper do this and I got the unhook with bt, even though I was sure he would die. Unfortunately, that guy was downed and didn't have ds, so I left, but I like a challenge lol :)!!!
edit: I didn't read carefully oops!! I save people in the basement during egc most of the time, but if I am being camped I stay in the match until I see that my teammates are safe or have escaped, but I will hope for a save ;w; If I see it's not going to happen, I die for hatch to open

Maybe they hope for a save? Or maybe they just want to make the Killer waste a minute or two? There's also times I've seen streamers spite their own teammates by saying 'He's waiting for the hatch, so I won't give up'.

Muh points. Though do you even get points for struggle now?

If I'm not on death hook and the team is willing to commit the save, it can be done.
Basement is broke, there should be two stairways on opposite corners.

If you are dead on hook you don't need to give up :)

If you wanna be selfish, fine, but maybe don't shame people for being hopeful. I go for saves all the time in that scenario even without BT, it's not that hard to slip past. Then at worst it's a hook trade.

"it's not that hard to slip past"
Thing is, unless killers prove me otherwise, i expect to face decent/okayish killers, and they don't tend to let that happen.
Also, i'm implying that if i was in their situation i would totally kill myself in order to make sure that the others get to live, so how does that make me "selfish" anyway? 🤣

Because you also said you're just going to leave and that's why you'd give up in their place.
Edit: also, you said proxy camping. Unless you wanna change that to "facecamping" then there's always a way past, especially if the survivors are working together.

If I am the one hooked and I see everyone sitting in the gates, sure Ill pack it in. Some people do it for the points others hope to be unhooked. Its not incredibly hard to go unhook someone from basement if everyone is still alive. The amount of times I left the exit gates to go get someone only to have them "give up" and then I died before the new mechanic SHEESH. Situaution dictates what happens i guess.

I hang in there because I want to give my team the option
If they choose to leave, I 100% support their decision
If they choose to go for the save, I 100% support their decision
I know for me as a survivor, I'm much more likely to go for the cool heroic save that gets us all killed rather than just cut my loss and leave like a smart person because the cool heroic save is interesting where walking away is boring.

I would give up because i don't want them to die because of me, not because i expect them to leave. If i expected that i wouldn't have made this post in the first place lol.
It's called "playing smart".

I guess it's different for each survivor. Personally, my main goal isn't about escaping, it's about to give the least possible number of kills.
In other words: "Winning" isn't my 1st priority, i want the opponent to lose".

So, the question is, "I'm abandoning you to die in the basement, but it bums me out, so I'd rather you let yourself die on hook instead -- why won't you?"
I feel like you just have to be bummed out about this one.
ETA: Apparently the thing you do when you let yourself die on hook is a forbidden phrase, so I'm changing the word.

Sure mate, if that's what you want to understand from the post.

Because most survivors want to be rescued?
Also, it's pretty fun to attempt risky saves.

A lot of survivors don't care about "playing smart" and would rather attempt the risky save, which IMO is way more fun than just leaving your teammate to die.
