"scream and reveal their current location to you for 4/5/6 seconds."
This kind of wording is misleading, right?
It implies that it will basically give you an aura for 6 seconds, since the wording implies it will give you a maintained & updated location reveal for 6 seconds. But it doesn't do that, right? Instead, it reveals their location as soon as it activates, and that one location stays revealed for 6 seconds even if they're long gone.
Is that right?

it does not reveal any auras, it reveals the current location of a survivor.
honestly, the only thing i'd find misleading on this is that the location reveal doesnt get updated, so the "6 second location reveal" doesnt actually reveal their location to you for 6 seconds, but the location they were in when you triggered it for a duration of 6 seconds.

Technically its phrased right, the only thing is, like you said, its misleading. To me the scream is enough to clarify what it does, although I wish it was a bit more clear to newer players.

Location is key word
Not aura
0 -
Aura revealing perks have that written on their description, the same way as killer instinct does. It's not misleading.
0 -
... This is exactly what I asked if it was, lol...
And thus why I find it misleading, according to the English language.
1 -
Yes, it is misleading.
"Current location for 6 seconds" means that you will know where they currently are for the entirety of those 6 seconds, meaning updated locations in real time.
But it does not do that.
To be grammatically and factually accurate, it should say, "Scream and reveal location at the time of the scream for 6 seconds."
Why is this being debated lolllllll?
0 -
No, it means it will create a loud noise notification that will remain for 6 seconds.
1 -
No, it just uses jargon that's unnecessarily complex. When BHVR talks about auras, they say it explicitly, meaning you can see the word "aura" very plainly. When they talk about location, it's those big bubbles with the survivor shadow on it. When they talk about screaming and revealing their location, it's the same as above but with a different shadow print.
Also, I'm not sure where you got the "current' part of the description from. All of the exposed perks mention just "location."
0 -
Yes - I know what it does.
But that is not what the English language deems that it does based on its own description.
2 -
I copypasted the description, lol.
It says "current location for 6 seconds".
2 -
Its description is consistent with other perks that work that way, with the exception of Make Your Choice that I'm not sure had its tooltip updated:
Iron Maiden: Survivors who exit Lockers suffer from the ExposedStatus Effect for 30 seconds and their location is revealed to you for 4 seconds.
Deathbound: When a Survivor heals another Survivor for the equivalent of 1Health State at least 32 metres away from you, that Survivor will scream, revealing their location and activating Deathbound.
And IMO, "Scream and reveals their current location" refers to a sound clue and not a visual one. The description is poor, but in nowhere you'll find the term aura and assuming so is a wild extrapolation.
1 -
The perk used to actually show survivors auras but it was quickly nerfed and I guess they never changed the wording.
1 -
You're really fixated on me saying the word "aura".
But when I said it, I was saying that the reader of the current wording might assume that it works LIKE an aura. I never, at any point, said anything about the perk giving aura reveal.
This makes more sense, TBH.
3 -
It literally says "current", as in "at the moment of activation".
And it's an insanely good perk, so it really should stay that way.
3 -
When did it ever do that?
1 -
"Current" is a continuously-updating status, grammatically speaking. If I say "current," it never means anything from the past or the future. So, saying "current location for 6 seconds" LITERALLY means, according to the English language, an ongoing updated status of the present, for 6 seconds.
Current.
4 seconds into the perk, the old location is no longer "current".
Lol...
WHY IS THIS NOT ABSORBING??? IT'S LIKE I'M TAKING CRAZY PILLS!!!
----
And NOBODY in the entire thread said anything about changing the perk...

You are wrong. The perk description says it causes them to scream and reveals their current location for six seconds. That doesn't mean it constantly updates the ping, it simply means their current location at the time of activation was revealed.
If it says it's tracking their current location for a specified or unspecified amount of time, that means the ping is constantly updating, because it is actively tracking them. However, that extremely key word is not on the description, meaning you are basing your entire argument on lazy speech patterns or simply on the fact that language is constantly changing and this is a microdifference between our two dialects, or more specifically the dialect of English spoken by the Devs and the dialect you speak.
1 -
I thought the perk did that to help killers who had cool downs/fatigue etc which would make it hard to see the highlighted location of the survivors. An example of this would be nurse downing someone and then fatiguing

On the PTB, apparently it was a "bug" but I think the devs just kind of shadow nerfed it, considering the description specifically says "aura". You can find videos of what it used to do if you check plagues ptb

I 100% agree with what you said. That's what current means. And I also agree with the rephrasing you suggested.
2 -
Not according to any dictionary I've read.
1 -
4 seconds into the duration of the location reveal, the location is no longer current. It does not belong to the present time. It hasn't been current for ALMOST 4 seconds, actually.
The only moment it is current is on the first frame of reveal. Every instant and every moment, and every measurement of time afterwards, it is not current.

Which perk? Could you maybe provide a link?
1 -
You talking about infectious fright? it use to be an aura revealing perk but they nerfed it to the current version shortly after it came out, I don't think they changed the wording though.
0 -
People are really debating you and they really look like clowns.
0 -
The op is referring to infectious fright.
This whole thread is a pointless study on pedantry. The op is obviously familiar with how this perk is used.
I guess he feels that the description of the perk doesn't match up to what he expects the perk to do, based on some slightly clumsy writing.
A bit of a strange thing to complain about though.
3 -
None? Just look up what current means. Belonging to the present time. 4 seconda after, that one person is 16 meters away from where the game shows you the current location is. Sorry, that is not current.
0 -
It'd be easy to say "just update the text so it just says 'revealed where they screamed for X seconds,'" for Infectious Fright. So instead I will ask:
- "All Survivors' locations are revealed to you for 3 seconds."
How would you make this part of the text for "Rancor" less misleading if it doesn't cause Survivors to scream?
0 -
Just add, "at the time of activation".
Lol.

Well while we're on the subject, the quality of currency is always something flexible. Something that is current is typically seen as a perfect, completed action, rather than a progressive one, so it's not going to always refresh.

im confused nowhere in the game does the description of the perk say current

Blerp.
