how is killer balaanced?
hello everyone, i am a new player i got dbd about 3 weeks ago and i am just wondering how people think this game is survivor sided? killer seems way easier and way stronger than survivors

Thats bc you and the player you go against are mostly new. If you learn how to play survivor, killer will struggle against you.

As you said, you are a new player. In those ranks killers are dominating, thats true.
However the higher the ranks go the more balance is shifting towards survivors which hold the most power in the highest ranks.

That's because you are new. :) Think of DbD as a see-saw with ONE Survivor sitting on one end, and a huge, scary Killer on the other. The other Survivors are just milling about near the see-saw. Naturally everything is weighted to the big scary Killer. Then as the other Survivors start to figure out what they are doing they start getting on the end of the see-saw one by one until all four are there and the Killer is now in the air wondering what the heck happened. Those four outweigh him, and in fact have more potential for all sorts of things.
Killers have one job and they don't have to rely on anyone. Thus, newbie Killers have an easier time than newbie Survivors. Things change. :) The strength of Survivors in their ability to be four places at once where the Killer can only be in one place (well most of them). The balance is overall, not at each level. Thus there is this MASSIVE stat pool which takes into account everyone's metrics at all levels, and overall things average out about where the DEV want them, and if not, they tweak. The only balance is in the Bell Curve, not individual matches or Ranks.

Most people seem to, which is why the survivor que times are so long when everyone's playing.

Then play survivor. As long as YOU are happy with the role you play, its perfectly fine.
As the others have said, you are still new. Killers are strong on low ranks but become weaker against high ranks. Thats where survivors become the power role. Which role you enjoy more, is up to you. But i´d recommend playing both roles more or less equally. Because that way you will understand how killers work, which helps surviving against them.

The game balance goes like this:
- Good Nurse/Spirit stomps any survivors.
- Decent SWF stomp ANY other killer.
- A decent killer stomps any solo survivors.
- Decent solo survivors stomp potato killers.
- Potato killers stomp potato survivors.
You are in the last term right now, still being a potato. If you find friends and start playing with them using discord, you will break the game balance in every possible way and win one game after another, except those rare occasions when you get matched against a good Nurse or Spirit. People complaining about the game being someone-sided just don't tell about the whole picture: the game is actually SWF-sided, not survivor-sided.

Since you're new, let me show you the dbd food chain, starting from the strongest ( most unfair), to the weakest
SWF (coordinated 4 man squads)- Good Killers- A good but not premade (solo survivor team)- Bad Killers- Bad Survivors.

The entity is playing a mindtrick on you, and eventually you will become like us, mindlessly traveling from match to match looking for that one final Quantum Leap through the exit gate that will bring you back home
In all seriousness though, you are embarking on a journey into arguably the least forgiving game for beginners, on both sides of the match. Treat your first 50 hours as the introductory phase where your main goal is to collect enough bloodpoints to have a good range of perks to play with.

Absolutely dead on.
Solo queue survivor never becomes survivor-sided even at rank 1 because you still get weak teammates (who get quickly eliminated) and you're unable to communicate so any decent killer is able to leverage those things to get consistent 3k-4ks. This is not even bringing up another myriad of issues which include but are not limited to dcs, people giving up, people trolling, people running meme builds, people going out of their way for challenges, etc.
Being in a strong SWF pretty much mitigates all of these issues entirely so the game ends up being survivor-sided besides for matches played against skilled nurse/spirit players and sometimes skilled oni/hag/blight players depending on the map.

Survivors are overpowered at the highest level of play when generators get banged out in around 3-4 minutes consistently and only Spirit and Nurse can compete there.
Killer will usually have the advantage unless he is a newer player playing against experienced teams.

But in all seriousness Killer takes a lot of insight and patience once you get up.
And the matchmaking does not help I was getting red ranks at rank 14 you can tell how that went. So come back here tell me when you get red ranks and tell me how it goes as Killer and this is just in case someone thought so "this is not an insult or calling you a baby I am just genuinely interested in your journey as a new boi :)".

The big advantage of being a killer is that everything is up to you, you don't have to rely on team-mates doing generators, good at looping, working together its all up to you and that provides a lot of agency. The survs have to deal with the chaos you create, but that can also turn into a downside for the killer. In a good team a member can make a mistake and can rely on their friends to aid them and help them out of it, when the killer makes a mistake its up to them to overcome it, but at the same time its still solely within the killer's hands which is still an advantage against the team play. Because for the surv that made a mistake that one or second mistake could be entirely fatal for them, where as for the killer no matter how many pallets you eat they can only be delayed.
Its what help makes the killer side stronger starting out, additionally there is the fact new players get scared quite easily and the game never tells you how to loop let alone optimally. So that contributes in new survivors just running in straight lines which is perfect for the killer because they will always catch them, or worse the urban evasion clauds and davids

Killers are not balanced, DBD keeps making global changes instead of fixing SWF that causes all solo survs to massively suffer.
Hitboxes for example are still broken after years of development

There is a thing called latency and desync, Hitboxes are in most cases fine.

Just looks like you lagged there/Experienced desync, If you play frame by frame you can see her just snapping onto you in one frame and the hatchet skipping locations mid air.

killers can hit through windows with a very generous range, so i am pretty sure they actually just hit the wall

Yeah I've only been playing a month now only focusing in killer and it's true. There are matches where I've gotten into against red ranked fully geared SWF death squads where I'm trying to level a killer and I got two, maybe three perk slots unlocked and I just spend the entire match getting body blocked, and flashlight spammed. Higher level survivors, especially if they're a coordinated group will have a significant advantage over killers in general, even more so if the broken matchmaking system decides that it wants to throw a baby killer (AKA you) at said group.

thats the because of the rendering and video cut fam i am not too gud with resolve the video runs on 24 fps instead of the 60 fps i recorded
btw there actually is no hatched mid air because of that
if you would have really checked frame by frame you would have seen the bloodmark appearing midair and a second bloodmark on my body I believe thats also in the vid

What you experience is called latency. When you get hit on your screen, but think that you shouldn´t get hit. It clearly looked like a hit from the killers perspective.

yeah latency seems to in favour of the killer quite alot (check the vid the bloodstains appear at the same time) and ive seen other survivors getting hit like that in my matches too, its not only me experiencing that bruv. Get red ranks and we might talk again
edit: wbu dropping pallets and getting hit anyway that also latency? smart boi forgetting that this game still had bugged af animations last year or vault setbacks and its still ridiculed by bugs

When survivors get better at the game they learn how.tp run loops correctly makeing it harder to catch them extending their chase time drastically so by the time you get them 2 gens could be potential donr

No the pallet hit is from dropping the pallet too late. The killer was already in hit range and swinging, you dropped the pallet, the hit registers because if there was no pallet it would be a hit, then the pallet stun pushes the killer to the far side of the pallet since they can't occupy the same place as a pallet.
However if you're playing killer you can be stunned by a pallet or head-on-ed like 5 feet away from the visible hit range (from your perspecive, but probably looked fine to the survivor), because latency is fun like that.
All online games have similar issues, like swearing you should have shot the other guy first in a FPS, but on his kill screen you shot second. Its the same thing that creates the "peaker's advantage" in fps games.

You think that way because you're new, once you get a decent amount of time in the game playing both sides your opinion will change like most people's did who have been playing for a long time.

One of the devs mentioned that survivor players make up around 80% of the player base on DBD aka the majority. We'd realistically need ~1 killer for every 3 survivors because survivors can re-queue the moment they are are out of the game but the killer has to stay until the very end
yeah last time i checked it was basically 50% 50% and alot commented they play both and withdraw
also if maybe you didnt read my comment from before "never trust statistics you haven't faked yourself"
for example imagine making the poll on a day where there was a huge survivor buff and ofcourse there will be more survivors on the forum resulting in more survivors seeing and interacting with the poll

Killers require a bit more micromanaging on the survivor's plus gens that they need to protect. As you get up higher, survivor's become smarter and waste less resources over time. You have to know your tiles, remember what areas had their pallets broken, which side to cut off a survivor before they get to a window vault and so on.
Survivors also require a bit of knowledge but they just have to stay alive as long as possible while trying to not run into their teammates. At Rank 1-3, a killer should know the best way to handle most situations but time is always against them. They WILL get a survivor but they lose the match if they're not skilled enough or know when to break off of a bad chase.

Nope. It's happened to me before. I just make pretty much exclusively nurse videos. Just watch Umbra and pay attention.
