Anniversary Stream: Vagueness and Empty Promises
Everything they said and showed in the anniversary stream are either vague additions that don't address the core problems of the game at all, or repetitive jargon they've spoken about such as game stability, bugs, and console optimization which yet again they promised before but have yet to follow through on.
They had their own developers on stream talking about how the next few coming updates were going to be "super" exciting yet on their own 5 year anniversary all they can say is a new type of totem and vague same old talk on issues they seem too incapable of fixing themselves 5 years through? That and another boring copy cat reused asset anniversary event of last year with no meaningful gameplay additions whatsoever... but yeah, so much change coming to dbd...
Where's the "actual" news bhvr? When are we getting new gameplay modes? leaderboards? stat pages? theater mode? totem rework? secondary objectives to break the monotony of dbd's gameplay loop? trial warmup you talked about a year and a half ago and somehow didn't go through with because whoever you have balancing your game is too scared to what'll it do to rank 20 meg heads?
The "best" thing to come from this stream is an actual updated tutorial *after 5 years* and actual functioning a.i in dbd. This is the only promising thing, that and key and mori reworks... *and isn't it so funny they spent soooo long talking about the mori reworks and them used to being toxic yet waaaaay at the end they just barely slide in the fact that key reworks are coming along with it to? I swear these devs don't even try to hide their survivor bias*
I doesn't matter to me that we can craft better versions of firecrackers now in lockers, i want some actual REAL updates and changes, none of this small time could've done whenever content on their 5th ANNIVERSARY stream of all things. 5 years and these are their BIG and FUNDAMENTAL changes we've been begging for years about.
Anyways, the new chapter is cool, the a.i and tutorial is cool and definitely needed, but everything else is kinda like what are you thinking bhvr? I couldn't give less of a cent on a new measely totem type when you can't figure out how to obscure their locations properly after 5 years. like seriously! change change up the loop layouts to have more debirs and add grass like in dead dog saloon! And stop putting them NEXT TO GENS AND OPEN TREES... let your survivors learn the game and not handhold at every step... yeesh.

I'm honestly thinking that their new "300 staff" is mostly everything except actual coders.

Surprised to see that I am not the only one who left the Stream disappointed.
The RE Chapter is perfect. No complaints about it.
Their talks about the Realm Beyond interested me none, to be honest. I absolutely despise the Realm Beyond, it wasn't necessary to begin with, it made the maps worse without addressing their actual issues, which weren't many.
But the one thing which annoyed me most was their comment about Freddy. They mentioned him as one of the reworked killers, and how they listen to community feedback when it comes to game health. Like, what? Haven't they seen the amount of backlash? Haven't seen the threads asking for Old Freddy back? That was not pleasant to hear. At all.
Then we get to the anniversary event, which only has one redeeming quality in the form of the community challenges. Everything else is pretty much recycled from last year, which is extremely disappointing.
At this point, I just want to go back. Back to the game which I fell in love with in 2018. If only that was possible, I would do anything.

They’re being more transparent than they’ve ever been before, and you’re complaining?!
What’s wrong with a little mystery?! What’s wrong with having fun on speculating what some of these future concepts, and features might be?!
And what exactly are these yet to be fixed problems you are talking about? The game is in a great, healthy state right now, and all but the most complex bugs are fixed very quickly in regular hot fixes throughout the year.

That happens with literally every change bigger than "we changed this rock from dark grey to light black". Not a good metric, if you ask me.
At this point, I just want to go back. Back to the game which I fell in love with in 2018. If only that was possible, I would do anything.
That's just nostalgia talking. The game is much better now than it was then.
And now I await someone implying I said that the game is now perfect.

So while I understand the frustration, it’s just common practice in the gaming industry, and PR in general. While I’m sure there are a lot of things in the pipeline they’d love to share, things can get cut or changed. This can cause much greater backlash than never giving specifics.
Is it a bummer that last gen consoles still suffer poor optimization, heck yeah, but imagine the outrage if they said it was coming out the 15th and didn’t. More transparency would be great, but we’ve never got that from BVHR, and I doubt we really ever will.

Bro... every time... without fail... I see you come running to defend bhvr...
And how long have you played this game? You are saying the devs fix the most complex bugs regularly? You say the game is in a healthy state performance wise? Have you touched console? Have you played nurse? Have you seen their track record with a laundry list of bugs being hauled in every patch?
5 -
I'm going to look at The Twins, Blight's slam hitboxes and the ever-degrading state of optimisation for a game that was released 5 years ago...and that's ignoring badly balanced/thought out killers that are a mixture of weak and frustrating to play against due to lack of meaningful counterplay, etc.
I do agree their extra transparency in the anniversary stream was refreshing, but they have ignored a ton of problems for a very long time.
7 -
I said all BUT the most complex bugs.
1 -
The guy like runs to defend daddy bhvr every time their name is brought up in the slightest of negative ways... i wouldn't try with him
2 -
I play on PS5. It runs beautifully. The game will NEVER run well on older consoles. Especially with newer content continually added. That’s not a BHVR problem. That’s a limitation on the console technology problem.
1 -
Welll shoooooooot then! they must have A LOT of complex bugs every dang patch new don't they?
2 -
Please don’t pretend that other games don’t suffer bugs whenever they release updates or patches.
This is a completely normal thing.
The Devs get on top of the majority of new bugs within a week of them appearing.
2 -
Oh WOW! That's wonderful! How privileged you are to snag a new console and have such an enjoyable experience! Me with the 85% of the rest of the people shouldn't be left in the dust because of BHVR's incapability to do basic optimization. And no, that's false, DBD has been an "old gen" game for nearly 5 years, games such at battlefield and battlefront known for the graphical fidelity run consistently and nigh flawlessly while dbd looks like a low res potato and struggles, it IS a BHVR problem.
6 -
And don't pretend just because other games deal with bugs that bhvr is somehow exempt for their innumerable oversights of game breaking to downright ridiculous bugs they have and still have in their game or have added in the past. I have not played a game NEARLY as buggy has dbd in... EVER, that should say something

Honestly, the devs have shown time and time again that they utterly lack any sort of wisdom as to the state of their game. They have a vision and they're sticking to it. That vision is: just keep adding more killers, more skins, more charms. These are their priorities.
After that comes balance, game design, etc. And the guy in charge of that thinks NOED is good for the game and the game is perfect with no issues.
3 -
Well you just go waltz on in there and show them how it’s done. It’s obviously so easy for you. Go teach them how to optimise for PS4 and XBONE.
1 -
If the devs lacked any insight or wisdom on their own game, it wouldn’t be possible for them to add ANY content over the past five years.
1 -
I literally can't see BHVR winning here, no matter what they would of announced people would complain
"Things were too vague!"
If they would of went in detail and would of accidently said 1 thing wrong the community would outrage
"Disappointing Anniversary Event"
What exactly are you expecting? I thought the crowns were pretty cool and it gives the chance to those who didn't get them last year to get a new kind of crown this year, and it wont be completely boring for veterans as they too can grind out these crowns instead of having to grind for the same thing or having no grind at all
"Actual News"
I don't know about you but a new kind of perk (we haven't had this since 2016) which is for SURVIVORS, a complete rework to mori's and keys, and finally more killer reworks. They've also talked about updating EXISTING mechanics to not only make the game in a healthier state but also give a fresh coat of paint for veterans. And also matchmaking improvements. The Tutorial and bots are HUGE, people have been asking for a play with bots mode FOR EVER now and we finally got it, also the tutorial has only been in for 3 years, there was no tutorial when the game first launched.
The only thing I'm a little iffy on is the auto ban system. A part from that, every thing they announced seemed just fine

How are those things correlated? Adding Nemesis to the game requires no understanding as to the state of your game. It's a highly lucrative business deal with huge fan appeal. Anyone can just add content. And that's what they're doing, which is my point. The game has been stale for years, new killers are just band aid solutions that are hit or miss.

I can play games that are graphical so much more stunning and have so much more action going on (e.g The Witcher,Final Fantasy 7 Remake,Overwatch etc.) and have absolutely 0 performance issues.
Dead by Daylight is the first game i've ever played on PS4 that has THAT much trouble with optimization.
Like you really want to convince me that a PS4 could never have a tiny icon pop up (e.g Exposed status effect,Prove Thyself,Leader,Dying Light),play certain animations (e.g Sloppy Butcher, transition into dream world, hook and unhook animation) etc. without having serious FPS drops/screen freezes ?
I'm sorry but that statement is beyond ridiculous
Also, that's not a console only thing.I've seen quite a lot PC players that had similiar problems.
4 -
Lol bro did you read my entire post? I literally congratulated them on what they DID do right but I see you are just the kind of reader who can't handle valid criticisms of developer shortcomings.
2 -
Because they didn’t just copy and paste the content from Capcom did they...
Wisdom and insight on ones own product is probably the MOST important quality/asset when it comes to adding (or removing) anything from a game.
Otherwise we’d still just have the same 3 killers, and same 4 survivors, and same perks as five years ago.
1 -
Yeahhhh, that's not true at all. Behavior is just too lazy to optimize the game for console.
4 -
Tell me it's sarcasm please.
Your level defending BHVR is higher than Sluzzy's level defending survivors.
4 -
Are sports commentators familiar with how to physically quarterback the football in the superbowl to win the game? Honestly don't try to defend that ignorant argument please
1 -
You really don't get it. That's fine. I'm just not going to explain it a third time.

Closing up the thread as the OP is being combative with those responding. Please be civil and respectful when discussing things on the forum. People are allowed to be disappointed and upset, people are allowed to be excited, and people are allowed to be unsure, but please don't bite at each other for disagreeing. More information on everything mentioned on the Anniversary Stream will be given when there is more to share.
