Is the community getting worse? (Rant)

The amount of killers I have been facing recently that just camp and tunnel and slug for 4k's without any remorse is disturbing to me. If you try to ask them why they tell you various things like: You just need to play better. Should I just let you live? It's my job to kill you. I don't care I won.

The win mentality some people have in this asymmetrical PvP game is really bad.

You can not kill any survivors and still "Win", survivors can escape and still "Lose". If you 4k and get a bad score you lost. If you escape and get a bad score you lost. If you didn't have fun you ultimately lost. How is absolutely destroying 4 solo queue survivors who are not that good fun for you? Did you get bullied by a really good SWF now you are taking it out on average survivors?

I have many hours in this game going back to 2017, I am just over 4000 hours of playtime. I main Amanda Young when I play killer. I know what it's like to get bullied as a killer. It's definitely not fun. I however don't turn around and start playing like a sweat lord who has vowed to get vengeance on every survivor like they are the Russian mob who just killed my dog and stole my car.

On Amanda I run A nurses calling, Brutal Strength, Enduring and Monitor and Abuse. I never try to slow the game down, I only slug occasionally when I am actually getting bullied. I NEVER tunnel, I make a very distinct point to NEVER tunnel. When a survivor gets hooked I make note of who I hook and how many times I have hooked them. I ALWAYS let survivors get unhooked, I never chase them off the hook. I go for 2 hooks on each survivor, and then some downs before I let every survivor go. I always score 21-25k points. I don't always kill all the survivors and "Win" But I always get legitimate GG's and +rep from survivors. I even meet people I am happy to see again or vice versa.

This is a challenging way to play, you don't always succeed. It's EASY to camp and tunnel. It's EASY to slug for the 4k. It's EASY to play like a dick. Ultimately the killer CONTROLS the pace of the game. As a killer you are playing with 4 other PEOPLE. Ultimately at the end of the day it's about having FUN not winning. Is it fun for you to prevent 4 other people from having fun?

Thoughts? Opinions? Personal Anecdotes? Lets hear some juicy rants from both sides please.

Tell me why I should care about the points? I'm not being toxic, they just don't matter to me. They mean nothing. Ooh you're red rank, who cares? Matchmaking is so messed up anyway. My fun is killing survivors or watching a good team help them escape. I'll camp the last hook, tunnel out a key or faced with a choice of 2 survivors i'll target the one on death hook or injured because it makes my task easier. I'm not here to protect gens, i'm here to hook you and kill you. It's been said before but I'm not responsible for your fun only mine and sometimes it's just a silly challenge rewarding me for bad tasks.

Oh and it's more fun being toxic than receiving toxicity. Of course I'm only toxic when I get a flashlight clicker or tea bagger who thinks it's smart to do it right after a pallet drop.

God no! Except for EGC, can't imagine doing it for 2 minutes! More like a couple seconds so they can hit struggle or die.

I get what you are saying as a fellow piggy main I play both sides to but I don't really mind how a killer chooses to play it's hard for me to expect them to play how I would.

I just go into my matches with positivity and try to make the game as enjoyable for my survivors I face. I have always said on the forums be the change you want to see .

I'm hoping more players join me if not then me playing how I do at least brightens up the survivors days I meet in my travels in the fog.

" but I'm not responsible for your fun only mine" Except in asymmetrical PvP this argument is not true. As a killer you control the pace of the game. Which means you can choose to make it not fun for the other players. Which can only mean you derive your enjoyment by denying others enjoyment. What does that say about you as a person?

I know what is like to get tunneled, for ridiculous reasons or no reason at all. mean behavior and so on.

I came to the conclusion that i have fun playing when i don't care about my points at the end game and not taking personally how the killer wants to play whether it's fair or not.

Same about losing the game, it's not a big deal and this is not going to be the last lose or last victory.

This approach helps me feel not frustrated with this community, and if I'm frustrated it's because of things like tunnelling, face camping that are considered tactics, when in fact it's a mistake to consider it as tactics meanwhile the devs can think of something to stop it from happening and make the game healthier.

    -

I like to compare DBD with Identity V for one reason.

Killers are camping the chair every single match and the game is not playable.

Players refuse to play by pre-planned rules, chasing non-stop until killing the survivors. instead it's very easy to use a way to guarantee (Maybe not always) a win.

It's not fair for the survivors and i hope that in the future something will change.

This is false. Survivors are only more powerful than the killer in coordinated SWF which is more rare than your average solo queue survivors. If you actually look at the data, Killers are killing way more survivors on average than survivors are surviving. Killers dominate the lowest common denominator.

Both sides are more and more entitled as time goes on, tbh.

How dare a killer chase me when I'm doing a gen in his face!?

How dare a survivor outplay me in a mindgame at an unsafe loop!?

Meanwhile I'm here like, play as you'd want your opponent to play. Don't be a dick. (Unless they were already a dick themselves, in which case it's a free for all)

Killers and survivors are getting worse at the game imo. And the community is going to hell to match the terrible quality of the state of the game atm. Survivors never adapt....and refuse to adapt to anything new. (Which is expected, considering the entire premise of survivor is playing reskins of the same mechanics with different perks attached.) Meanwhile on the killers side people are getting to the point where they don't care anymore about the "Invisible Rule Set" Camping, Tunneling, Slugging are all made up bullshit to explain tactics in the game that survivors don't like to face. Killers (Mostly the ones who play killers who have generally no pressure) are fed up with the balance of their characters or weakness either or. And flipping the rule books around. Eventually you get this cycle of repetition where Survivors rage at something, then that thing gets nerfed, then the killers who play that thing say ######### it, and proceed to play as sleezy as possible to make up for the nerfs. Saw it with Blight after PTB, Saw it with the Twins after they came out of PTB in a sorry state then got worse. Saw it from Clown, etc etc, the list goes on.

I personally don't care. I'm over it. The community has gone from being quick witted and skillful to half witted and bad at the game at all ranks. BHVR won't cultivate a game that rewards skillful play, so they keep releasing clunky killers who get hamstrung by their own abilities, and nobody teaches survivors anything anymore. Wall techs, window techs, how to flashlight save, bad loops, or even basic stuff like when is a good time to save someone from the hook, or even how to hide. Instead BHVR keeps releasing neon colored outfits, and perks that encourage survivors to make dog ######### plays. Like that dumb ass locker perk that survivors always try to use....like....why tho? Why give them a tool you know is gonna set people up to fail.....

Now we got Nemesis coming, probably one of the biggest if not biggest current licenses they could get. And I have a sneaking suspicion that its not gonna sell that well and we end up with another killer like the twins. People pick it up for a hot day, then put that dumb bimbo on the backburner until people forget it exists.

I agree with the camping and tunneling part, but slugging for the 4k is fine if you know where the last guy is.

'Cause we are the ones that want to play

Always want to go, but you never want to stay

And we are the ones that want to choose

Always want to play but you never want to lose

    Winning in this game relative.

As Survivor i escape as a win. No matter how low score I get.

As Killer, if i able to dominate Survivor, or make a whole team struggle alot at some point, its a win even though they might all escape at the end.

I mean I think we all get our enjoyment from various styles of play, and I'm not one to judge.

Personally I enjoy having some extra rules for myself as a killer, and if the survivors are good enough, or belligerent enough, I can start throwing out some of those rules. Some of the things I find belligerent are definitely things done survivors find fun.

I play swf pretty much exclusively, and some of my friends are exactly the kind of people I hate to play against.

It'd be nice if when people try to have fun as killer survivors would play along, at least a little.

Watched my friend try to do a Trapper Daily. The survivors burned a Gateau. Two stepped in traps, and he picked them up and dropped them a little ways off so they could be healed while he reset the traps. They refused to step in any more, they'd only try to disarm them. They did gens, broke hooks, and mostly tried to avoid interacting with him until the end when all they wanted to do was gloat against the friendly killer. They mostly got crap for BP, a real waste of time and a Gateau.

When I play killer, I don't camp, I avoid tunneling, and I've never been one to run gen slowdown perks, yet back when I had messages on I got complaints about tunneling (if I killed) or being ass at killer (if I was friendly). Nowadays, I run really dumb perks, I often don't down anyone, I avoid focusing on anyone, and lots of times I even pretend not to see hiding survivors since they don't want to be chased, yet survivors still will be determined to find ways to be jerks. When they do that, I have to assume that means they want me to leave them alone entirely, so I just go break walls and open the exit gate to move on to the next match. It really makes me think they don't want killers on the map at all. Gen repair sim seems boring to me, but maybe I'm the minority.

Personally, when I play survivor, the problem is usually other survivors more than anything. Sure, there are some killers who aren't fun to go against, but it feels so much worse to get screwed by your own teammates.

Killers should just be bots at this point, that way they can play the same way by the same rules every match. They can be programmed to go easy on potatoes so that bad matchmaking doesn't screw everyone over. Boom, problem fixed, survivors will have fun every time.

Or the game needs more structure. If it had more structure, it could limit unfun playstyles and ensure both sides always feel like they had an opportunity to play in every match. A lot of people play to win, and they'll do whatever it takes to win: in this game, that means rushing through and limiting your opponent's chances to participate. Hooking, slugging, killing, all those remove the survivor from participating. If survivors focus on the gens, rushing through them, or go immersed, they can limit the killer's chances to participate. The fun is supposed to be the back-and-forth, but the lack of structure has it so that cutting that back-and-forth down to the bare minimum is the easiest way to prevail. It's bad design because it's human nature to go with the easiest path.

You are not wrong, the community is getting infestated by children that invade the game, there are some content creators that make dbd videos focused more on kids, thats really bad for the community in general because its becoming the Fortnite community.

@DarthCat I understand what you are passing throught, I played at ghostie and got bullied many times by SWF with key, they think that they are good because they played with BT DS DH Unbreakable/Adrenaline with Key, against a killer that is not even A tier, you should just ignore and accept that they are kids trying to pass their time in a game thinking that they are the best players ever and they are douches, they know they are but this is a survivor sided game and there is nothing we can do, everyone that plays as killer frequently knows that this game is easier for survivor to escape or win if they play the basic, but thats DBD.

  • DarthCat
    DarthCat Member Posts: 9

Actually in every Asymmetrical PvP game I have tried there is never a true balance which means one side can always ruin it for the other. In DBD's case the killer controls the pace of the game. If a killer decides to camp and tunnel and survivors decide to be altruistic they will die. If they decide to just let that one survivor go the killer will only get 1k. It's not fun for anyone.

The killer does not control the match. Survivors do. They control how fast gens get done, essentially how long the game lasts. This alone makes the game harder for killers, basically means less fun and more stress.

“Is it fun for you to prevent 4 other people from having fun?”

Why should i care about your fun? I bought the game to have fun, ME. Why should i play the game to make other people have fun?

At this point doing everything a killer needs to (patrolling, hooking, slugging, tunnelling, etc.) means “unfun” for survivors. So in order to “not prevent survivors from having fun”, should i just play like a clown that does not threaten survivors in any way? Should i just throw the match to please survivors?

What you’re demanding is absolutely absurd. Does survivor care my fun? NOT IN THE SLIGHTEST. Even if i did the best job of appealing them, they always find something to insult me.
