Why can Spirit hear grunts of pain?
Stridor Spirit is what makes the Killer unbalanced. She still has potential without hearing grunts of pain but it would require some really strong reads and perception skills. She'd end up more in Nurse territory where only dedicated mains with lots of hours could use her to her full potential.
Literally just edit a line of text in her power to say:
- The Spirit loses sight of all Survivors and is unable to hear grunts of pain, but still sees the Scratch Marks Survivors leave throughout the Trial Grounds.

Holy ######### another Spirit post. Very original.
27 -
There are far better ways to fix her.
8 -
Or you could just use iron will.
4 -
Not with Stridor. Which is the reason her power needs to be edited
7 -
What's she supposed to do? Completely rely on scratch marks?
15 -
Like removing her invisibility in phase or at least giving glimpses of her ever second or so so there's something to react to?
1 -
Why does it have to be original?
4 -
Scratch marks, breathing and any other noises such as grass rustling or footsteps.
3 -
Yup the best Spirit players already do it so they don't need to use Stridor anyway. The goal is to nerf subpar Spirits while retaining her potential high skill ceiling
4 -
If so, its power would be very easy to counter. You would literally just have to walk to confuse the killer while she's in her phase.
2 -
It just gets tiring after a while seeing the same type of thread every second. I want Spirit changed as much as everyone else but can we please give it a rest.
2 -
I feel like Spirit is pretty much fine as she is?
9 -
Uh huh. Want to talk about boys?
2 -
If you can loop a Spirit with Stridor while injured, then I'll agree.
And plz share your winning technique
(dropping strong pallets early doesn't count)
3 -
I'd personally just bring back the bug that allowed survivors to hear Spirit's footsteps/breathing at the start of her phase.

I'm just saying. You're tired of these threads. I offered a new topic. If you don't like it another idea is to not go onto those threads if you don't want to talk about them
2 -
Or better yet. Make Spirit's Shell glow red and allow it to be kicked to cancel the phase. Twins style
0 -
yeah this is same with me, too much spirit thread now.
5 -
There's more to this game than looping. There's also mind games, just holding W. Et cetera. Honestly if you can keep a chase going for 30 seconds or longer you're already basically an absolute god. At that point it's up to your team mates to bring it home.
1 -
Because she HAS to track via sound. This is why so many Spirits are feeling forced to use Stridor: because Iron Will is far too strong against her without Stridor.
If they were to take away her ability to hear survivors while phasing, they’d have to compensate in someway, such as giving her back the ability to see blood trails, which just puts the same issue right back at square one: Spirit will still find injured survivors whether they have Iron Will or not.
9 -
equip no mither and iron will checkmate spirit mains
6 -
If a Killer downs me in less than a minute, I made a mistake, got caught in a dead zone or they used their power phenomenally well.
Unless its a Spirit, then none of the above can happen and I can still go down quickly
0 -
No. I'll be frank, no.
Oh no, this isn't me making another post defending Spirit. This is me making a post telling you why this would do nothing.
1) Best spirits don't need grunts. They have footstep audio. You're dead. Congrats.
2) The problem with Spirit is that she deprives herself of visual information and relies on audible information, yet deprives the survivors of both. This means that countering her boils down to taking a random guess and hoping you were right. Your change wouldn't fix that.
3) Let's say you're fine with the above... why are making killers that are brutally hard to verse with very little counterplay, yet going, "oh, that's ok. They're really hard." No, it's not okay. Nurse is excused due to her age and community acceptance, so any changes now would result in mass backlash. Why are we trying to make Spirit more like Nurse? The issue isn't how hard/easy she is to play, it's just that she's hard to play against due to countering being guesswork.
4 -
Nurse isn't problematic because she's balanced in a way that heavily discourages people from playing her.
So getting a Nurse game is uncommon and a threatening Nurse game is so rare that most people aren't even mad about losing they're just impressed that someone is skilled enough Nurse to 4k
1 -
I already do this with Calm Spirit & Fixated. It’s so amusing just “disappearing” from a phasing spirit, and the confused spin they do upon reappearing because I’m not where they thought I’d be and cannot see where the hell I just went.
1 -
So, because a killer is designed in a way that they're obscenely buggy and near physically painful to play, that justifies them ignoring almost all defenses the survivors have? That's... one form of logic, I guess.
Nurse is problematic for both sides. For killers it's because she is horrible to play, so it's mostly just the "I want to win no matter what" types that even try to play her. For survivors it's because facing her is usually either a guaranteed win or a guaranteed loss, and that removes basically all tension from the game.

oh just you wait the moment spirit gets nerfed its onto hag
1 -
yeah definetely not
0 -
It’s not unheard of to have multiple Killer balance changes in the same mid-chapter ;)
Hag being unable to place traps at a hook and Spirit being unable to abuse Stridor would be a lit patch
0 -
nah hag and other killer already good, the rest is already in good place heck i even like to play wraith now after his buff.
the problem is spirit nerf is already sounded for really long time but seems like dev taking no actions of it.
0 -
Pro tip, crouching reduces the noise you make. So even with stridor, you make 0 noise with iron will.
2 -
still feel like people are just going to complain about a different killer when spirit gets nerfed
0 -
after spirit is nerfed i think this is the best time to buffed some killers, they need to revisit billy or bring old billy back
0 -
Because she is dead, not deaf
1 -
So let me understand this, you want a killer which is a 4v1 nerfed because they can hear you? Or you want to run 1 perk to completely counter their power? I dont quite understand tbh, if a spirit is using stridor they're using a perk to be stronger... that's the point of perks. Honestly spirit is fine, the bigger issue is bad ranking making players be in ranks they shouldn't. If spirit was to be changed it's her addon % not nerfing her base power. I dont mind versing spirits, if the spirit is doing over performing its usually due to bad teammates or the killer using good addons. I have yet to see any good spirit beat a good team addonless.
2 -
Spirit needs a counterplay, not a nerf, counterplay is a nerf tbh, but, what I want is the survivor get a tip where she is phasing, just that, in the past, when blight lauched, spirit has a bug that you could know where she is

Spirit Posts be like:

Sure can't wait for season 3

Uh Season 3 of Camp Cretaceous came out.

Why did the goblin turn on the stove?
0 -
I do, yes.
1 -
Oh dear god no.

My god this horse has been dead so long its bloody fossilised

Today it's Spirit, tomorrow it can and will be a Killer you actually like and the nerf will be horrendous and make that Killer utterly unfun. Like Legion.
Killers don't get to have nice things in Dead by Daylight. Internalize this fact. This is why I have spirit at level 40-ish unprestiged: No point in playing her or getting good because she'll just be nerfed for being an effective and fun Killer.
0 -
I disagree that she should not be able to hear anything at all. There should be a happy medium between her being able to hear survivors but not clear enough to where it doesn’t matter if she can’t physically see them.
Their grunts could be muffled or echoed (for example) this way she herself also has to sort of guess, and not be given a guaranteed free hit.
This is probably Spirit’s biggest problem for me.
0 -
Actually that isn't true, even with Iron Will, crouching against Stridor doesn't remove all grunts of pain. According to DbD's way of calculating percentages it should, but it doesn't.
0 -
It might not make it 0, but i can say that it makes it effectively 0 because you have to basically be touching them to hear the noise.
0 -
I'd argue you could actually remove the scratchmarks. She moves faster than Legion, has access to her power more often than Legion and can hear survivors breathing, footsteps and grunts of pain better than Legion. Yet Legion doesnt see scratchmarks OR blood while in frenzy.
Considering Legion mains still perform fine despite the lack of blood and scratchmarks, we could easily just remove the scratchmarks from Spirit too. Spirit mains use mother daughter ring more which removes the scratchmarks anyway, so why not simply remove it from her basekit? Makes it a bit easier to counterplay Spirit while she is phasing.
0 -
Yeah run a suicide build on the 5 percent chance you face a spirit. Definitely the way to go.
