Best survivor perks for a new player?

recently started playing. what perks would you recommend?

currently i run:

  • self care (obviously)
  • dead hard (thinking of switching cause im not that great at escaping the killer anyways)
  • empathy (helps me get a basic idea of where the killer is when others get injured, feel like other perks would be of better use)
  • dark sense (same as above)

im still fairly new to the game, these perks seem to work for me but i feel like other perks would be much better.
also i cant go without empathy, if someone gets injured i know where the killer is so i know if i should focus on a gen or a save or something else.
any tips?

If you are a new player than that carries with it the expectation that you will go onto hooks a lot. For this reason, I recommend that you grab Kindred when you get the chance. In case you weren't aware, Kindred is not a unique perk so accessing it should be easier than unlocking the rest.

Replace Dead Hard with Sprint Burst. I believe DH is better than SB, but you can start with SB. DH is really situational, while SB can be triggered to avoid the first hit and move towards a pallet. Exhaustion perks are really good.
Empathy with Bond. Bond is way better than empathy.
Dark Sense can be replaced with Alert, if you want aura reading. But a better option to it will be Iron Will or Urban Evasion.

    My current list of favorites?
    Urban evasion
    Dance with me
    Lithe
    Light weight
    Self care
    Detectives hunch
    Deja vu
    Technician

Sprint burst is ok if you have urban evasion, but it's way too easy to use accidentally.

Windows of opportunity is good, too.

Self care is the most overrated perk in the game. I’m a rank one killer and survivor. Played this game for a year and half and pretty much never used self care.

Go go with urban evasion and spine chill and a couple perks of your choice.

Find the killer before they find you. And go from there.

After a year and half the only survivor perk you actually really need to do well is spine chill.

I love how you say self care obviously lol

as a newbie self care is even more useless because you’re not gonna be winning chases as much. Self care is for seasoned players.

You need to be stealthy as possible.

urban evasion spine chill iron will

You’re probably going to be hanging around the perimeter of the map more. After a few months maybe you’ll understand the game more and start running guns blazing like me to the middle generator because you know how important it is.

but the thing about the middle generator is you’re exposed so you gotta know how to win chases.

Depends on the kind of survivor you want to be and if you are gonna play solo or with friends.
Personally i just want information, everything else can be solved with skills, that's why i don't like to rely on sprint burst, decisive strike, dead hard and all that stuff (i only use those perks when i got the daily of being chased by the killer for 2 minutes with X survivor).
That being said, my solo build is: kindred, bond, open handed and small game. (thank you @Peasant for the tip you gave me some time ago about using open handed along with kindred)
My swf build: self care, borrowed time and the other 2 depend on what the others are running.

    I'm a casual Claudette survivor. She's awesome.
Started with Self Care, then leveled up Nea for her Urban Evasion and Balanced Landing.
4th Perk was always optional, I stuck with Botany Knowledge.

The most important perk for a new player is We're Gonna Live Forever. I know it doesn't help you at all mechanically, I get it, but as a new player you desperately need bloodpoints and this perk absolutely reduces that grind. Seriously, play David King and get this perk unlocked first! I also can't overstate how good the extra bloodpoints from this perk feel. It really helps to shake off a bad game when you see those extra bloodpoints roll in on the tally screen.

Self Care, exhaustion perk of your choice. detection perk of your choice. Last slot can be whatever you want.

i always try to be stealthy as much as i can, thats why i run empathy and dark sense, helps me stay away from the killer and not be seen.

not a huge fan of decisive, cuz im not a #########.

I don't like DS because i'm not a big fan of a 1 time use perks, neither of end game perks (the only one i like is adrenaline though), but in my personal opinion DS is fine and people are making a big deal out of it.

Dude you’re a newbie. Empathy isn’t gonna help you Get better.

Youre just gonna end up like all the other ignorant toxic players in this game.

You be stealthy by sneaking around and not walking around corners unless it’s safe.

You dont wanna take advice go ahead and waste your time

I said it’s funny how you say Self care obviously because it goes to show up brainwashed people are in this game.

Self care is a useless perk.

Youre a newbie and you’re trash talking someone who knows practically everything bout this game lol

Agreed. I can understand if it's on a 1 minute cooldown.

Any new survivor should start stealthy, until gain more confidence. Urban evasion is a must. I hear a lot of sprint burst but need to walk until ready to use it. Lithe is better. Self care yes, as at low levels, people are quite selfish and focused on surviving rather than teamwork/points. Finally bond is good, as you can find teammates to heal you or help with gens

Best beginner perk for me was technician. If you have trouble with skill checks definitely that.

Two that are very helpful is sc as you said but run iron will and this might seem harsh but by default have calm spirit with us and sc reason is now vs birds don't give you away at tier 3 even when sprinting and makes you immune to doc screaming iw you make no noise and can juke and lose faster sc dude you can heal as your chased 4th perk is one you decided to use yourself but if your new or in a team add in small game so you can counter noed hexs traps and all that fun stuff
