Perks with unnecessary downsides: Autodidact
Autodidact is a perk that, when you are not healing someone with a medkit and are not healing yourself, you get a special skill check which adds a token (max 5 tokens) when hit. Each token gives you a +15% progression bonus each time you hit a healing skill check. However, equipping this perk starts you off with a -25% progression bonus.
Where do I begin?
You can't use this perk while healing with a medkit or while healing yourself, which is like 2/3 of all possible healing scenarios.
You start off with a -25% bonus "progression", which is harsh. It makes this perk take a long time to get anything out of, and in certain scenarios it causes you to lose because you needed a fast heal on someone and you were forced to do the negative progress skill checks on them. They could have just made the perk scale slower, rather than having it have huge scaling but starting you off with a huge disadvantage.
You might as well add to this perk's description "tremendously decreases the chances of getting a skill check", because that's what it feels like in half the games you use it. You will go through 1 heal, get 1 skill check, go through a second heal, get 1 skill check, etc. Why does Spine Chill get a skill check chance increase but this perk doesn't?
Autodidact is a fun perk idea I guess, but it has too much working against, its built-in downsides as well as skill check RNG, to be consistent. Try running it if you want quick heals later in the match, but it might just give you the opposite.

Wish it worked with self healing although I have heard some people say that would be op apparently

Probably not, since the only way to do that without a medkit is another perk (I.e. self-care).

The only problem I have with this perk is the skill check rng

It's because it's a very dangerous perk, like MoM. If they remove too many limitations it's suddenly the most overpowered, unfair pile of crap.
Hopefully they realise that they can do with perks like they did with wraith and slowly buff them to an acceptable level, in the case of Autodidact likely by stripping out conditions one by one.

It would be really strong if you combine it with Self-Care

It would be OP though. Same if it applied to med kits because of the needle/suture add ons. Tokens would be gained far too quickly. 5 Autodidact tokens is very powerful when healing teammates.

But MaIn StReAm StRiMmUrS say it is bad and hurts your team more than it helps them.
It just costs you 2 bad skillcheck to make it the same as vanilla and at 5 stacks it is super good. Still, it is a gamble due to rng nature of skillcheck.
Had a game recently where I've got 4 stacks on a single heal, less than 2 minutes into the game.
Actually, the more slowdowns killer uses to make healing longer the stronger autididact is.
The negative effect on low token count actually allows you to get more tokens in a single heal, so... Yeah.

Hurts the team how?! That’s so silly. Only the first 2 skill checks have a negative.

Dunno.
Heard it from Otz and Scott, maybe Zubat too, but not sure.
Personally I love autodidact paired with aftercare or solidarity.

The only thing this perk needs is the toolbox modifier of skillchecks.
The problem with the perk isn't it's strenght. Cause at 5 stacks it's insanelly powerfull.
It's how inconcistant it is and how you can sometimes go through a heal without getting any stacks

They just should increase the chance of having skill-checks somehow. This is literally why i never use it without Spine Chill.
I also think it should work on self-heal BUT you would not gain any token from it. So for example :
- you have 2 tokens = you shouldn't heal yourself because you will just get negative progress
- you have 4 tokens = you can heal yourself but you won't get a 5th token.
That would make it balance in a way that you cannot be selfish and it still doesn't work on yourself until the 3rd token.

Autodidact should guarantee one skill check every 5 seconds. Imo that's all it needs.

I like Autodidact with Solidarity too.

I love run this perk in my alturistic build, even better if killer have Sloppy because you get atleast 3 tokens in one heal and can counter that perk rest of the match. Sure it have downside but that's why it's "high risk, hogh reward" kind of perk. Also that downside doesn't affect killer like Dying Light affects obsession. That's why this perk is decent and would be overpowered withput any kind of downside.
