Perks with unnecessary downsides: Autodidact

Options

Autodidact is a perk that, when you are not healing someone with a medkit and are not healing yourself, you get a special skill check which adds a token (max 5 tokens) when hit. Each token gives you a +15% progression bonus each time you hit a healing skill check. However, equipping this perk starts you off with a -25% progression bonus.

Where do I begin?

You can't use this perk while healing with a medkit or while healing yourself, which is like 2/3 of all possible healing scenarios.

You start off with a -25% bonus "progression", which is harsh. It makes this perk take a long time to get anything out of, and in certain scenarios it causes you to lose because you needed a fast heal on someone and you were forced to do the negative progress skill checks on them. They could have just made the perk scale slower, rather than having it have huge scaling but starting you off with a huge disadvantage.

You might as well add to this perk's description "tremendously decreases the chances of getting a skill check", because that's what it feels like in half the games you use it. You will go through 1 heal, get 1 skill check, go through a second heal, get 1 skill check, etc. Why does Spine Chill get a skill check chance increase but this perk doesn't?

Autodidact is a fun perk idea I guess, but it has too much working against, its built-in downsides as well as skill check RNG, to be consistent. Try running it if you want quick heals later in the match, but it might just give you the opposite.
