Perk Rework | Surge

Okay, I'm not a Surge user. I've used it like 10 times. But whenever I use it, I never know if I'm close enough for Surge to start regressing a generator. And I know I'm not the only one that experiences that. So this small change will just make it easier for you to tell what generators have been affected by Surge. I believe it would feel much nicer to run.

EDIT!!!

After reading some of the comments. I've made some more changes.

What do you think? :)

    The basic attack requirement needs to go, but other than that the perk is fine as-is, the cooldown prevents it from being absolutely insane on killers like Spirit, Blight or Nurse. Showing the affected gens would be a nice QoL change but it wouldn't be a huge deal.

    If you make it so Surge can't hit the same gen multiple times in quick succession (without it being tapped first), what exactly does the cooldown do to make it not crazy on certain Killers?

    Because that's boring and weak and you won't get any really good, fun use out of it even without the cooldown.

    I wouldn't want affected gens to be highlighted: right now i really love its synergy with surveillance, so i get the white aura already. But if someone is working on an affected gen, surge goes on cd, but the gen remains red. So i know there's someone actively working on that gen. If the gen was highlighted by surge too, it'd go white regardless right? So i wouldn't know there's someone there.

    Okay, I should probably clarify so I'm not such a #########:

    What you're saying, if I'm not mistaken, is for Surge to regress the closest non-regressing gen every time you down someone. That's... Not great. Right now it goes really well with every other regression perk, especially Ruin, because it effects all gens in your TR but has a cooldown. That cooldown isn't that bad, to be perfectly honest, I rarely even notice it because if I'm snowballing I don't really need the extra help.

    If it has a cooldown and effects all worked-on gens, it has more perk synergy and potential for regression because it also synergises with itself. If it has no cooldown and only effects the closest non-regressing gen, it has less synergy and you won't even notice the lack of cooldown most of the time. It just won't be that good, basically, because it's low will still be low but it's high won't be nearly as high.

    If you take the perk as-is but remove the cooldown, suddenly it gets really oppressive, but I think we both know that already because we've both basically said so.

    The cooldown gives you LESS out of it because you can only use it ONCE every forty seconds and get nothing out of it if you down someone with even one second less on the clock rather than being allowed to get multiple uses out of it by going around the map as quickly as possible.

    I'm saying Surge shouldn't synergize with Ruin because that creates the "cooldown problem" in the first place. I've noticed a healthy number of times where Surge didn't go off because I was a few seconds too fast, and I had to go through all that effort all over again for not waiting.

    Surge, by itself with no cooldown but no ability to affect regressing gens, is still weaker than surge affecting all gens and not just ones that aren't regressing. You're not getting multiple downs within 40 seconds unless you're snowballing in one area, in which case it's still pointless because you're not moving and not hitting any gens that you haven't already, and because you already hit them they're not going to be affected a second time. And if you are snowballing in one area and the perk has the cooldown, at least one of the downs is going to activate it and it's going to hit all the gens again, even if it was still on cooldown at the start of the snowball.

    The cooldown really isn't a problem, it's just there to make sure the ability to hit multiple regressing gens isn't abusable, and the fact that you can then also pair Surge in its current state with other perks makes it even better.

    I love surge. I feel like no one pairs it with ruin and thrilling tremors.

    Every Gen regresses because of ruin, but if someone is on a gen while you down someone they still explode because of surge ( because they are not regressing at this moment)

    And then you pick them up and thrilling tremors blocks all of them + you see where they are not blocked (so theres a survivor)

    You can buff surge all the way, but with the right combination it already is super helpful.

    It doesn't really need a buff. It's still a useful and somewhat meta perk, and it's synergy with surveillance is pretty powerful.

    My experience with missing out on the cooldown by mere seconds on multiple occasions leads me to disagree with what you say.

    Excuse me OP how did you create the perk format to look like that. Can you tell me how you created the custom perk please?

    Of course!

    It's actually pretty simple. I make every perk change in BeFunky. It's a free photo editor online, and it's really good. Everything you can see in these perk changes, except the text, are just pictures, PNG's and stuff. https://www.befunky.com/create/

    The base is just a black/grey picture. And to create more depth, I just added a stone texture and made it transparent. The purple part is just 3 layers of smoke with different shades of purple. And the white line is actually just a white line. If you want the base to make your own things, I can send it to you somehow xd

    For the text, I only use 2 Fonts. Bebas Neue for the perk's name and Arial for the description. And for the colours, I use 5. The structure of the text is similar to the actual perk's structure. I only put the change where I think it looks good.

    • FFE500 / Yellow || I use it to highlight Tier 1. And sometimes if a perk has an effect that is the same all tiers, I use yellow to highlight that too.
    • 00D028 / Green || I use it to highlight Tier 2.
    • A02BFF / Purple || I use it to highlight Tier 3.
    • FFEC85 / Yellow with a shade of white || I use it to highlight the important effects and requirements of a perk like GeneratorsDying StateHealthy State, etc. I also use it for the perk quote if it has one.
    • FF4C00 / Orange || Orange is actually new and I don't know if I'll continue to use it.

    The perk icons can be found on the Dead By Daylight Wiki or in the game files. https://deadbydaylight.fandom.com/wiki/Perks

    I'm really happy you like how it looks. Thank you! I really appreciate it :)

    I feel like the white aura part is unnecessary but other then that i like the idea.
