Resident Evil Memories

On a good note! Does anyone have any scary RE memories from their childhood or life? I was so scared of the RE3 CD art I would hide it in the garage at night ๐Ÿ˜†

i didnt get into RE until literally 2 years ago, but the RE2make was so unbelievably fun and the first time I heard Mr. Stompy Stomp following me around the RPD was terrifying (in a good way)

As a kid ,I was terrified of T-00 Mr X from the orginal RE 2. When he busted through the wall ,and came luring toward me,I was like holy crap why would they have a monster like this

When I was a kid I couldn't play through the first segment of RE2 because the noises the zombies made scared me too bad.

The first big village encounter in RE4 was one of the most stressful moments I've ever had in a Resident Evil game.

I didn't know about the game's CQC mechanics that early into playing it and at the time wasn't aware that you could run into one of the houses to trigger a cutscene and get a shotgun. Trying to fight off like 10+ Ganados with just the starter pistol was a pretty tough challenge (especially since I was still new to survival horror games in general back then).

But I figured it out eventually and had a great time playing through the rest of the game, even when saddled with Ashley. RE4 is probably still my favorite entry in the series to date (though the RE2make has become a pretty close second).

Learned of the series when I saw 6 or 7. My brothers friend bought his ps1 round and I saw the opening movie to RE3. The part where the UCS soldiers are being killed off and the reveal of Nemesis' face gave me nightmares for a while.

That sounds like 5 which wasn't on the Wii. There were ports of Zero, 4, REmake and those lightgun games. The 4 port was a lot of fun actually.

I got the Playstation on my 18th birthday in September of 1996. RE was one of the first games that I rented, and did so within the first few days of enjoying this awesome new system. When I turned it on the sound was fine, I watched the intro with no problem, and was pumped. But then when the actual gameplay started I noticed that I only got the ambient score and sound effects, no spoken dialogue. I saw Chris and Jill and Barry and Wesker gesticulating as if they were having a conversation, but nothing came out.

I went to the rental store and tried another copy, but got the same result. Finally I realized that somehow, in a way I still don't understand, the Playstation machine itself was the problem. I swapped it out with a new machine and finally got to hear the voices that had previously been missing. As my cousin aptly put it, I was probably better off sticking with the first one.

On another occasion a few months later I was in an apartment where a bunch of other guys loved to hang out because my place was the biggest and I had all the cool video games and so forth. We all watched as I played RE and got to the point where you discover the diary of a transforming zombie who begins by talking about how itchy he is and how hungry he's getting, a diary which finally ends with the simple words "Itchy. Tasty". I laughed so hard - I don't even know why - but I found it the funniest thing I'd seen in years. I decided that this was our little gang's credo, our calling card. I grabbed a permanent marker and ran all over this crummy apartment complex writing "itchy tasty" all over all kinds of surfaces - in the local bulletin board, on the underside of toilet lids, on mirrors, on the inside (latching side) of doors, etc. At one point one of my buddies stole a giant roll of toilet paper from the bathroom (you have to understand, this place treated its tenants like #########, we were just rebelling as 18-20 year-old kids, making the best of a crummy situation). I insisted that the guys wrap me up in the toilet paper like a mummy - just COVER me with that crap - and I would slowly shamble after them as they pretended to cower and scream, threatening them with repeated drawls of 'ITCHY TASTY, ITCHYYY TASTYYYYYY" the whole time. Becuase the security cameras were on a short delay I then quickly tore off all the toiler paper, we ran down to the first floor of this place where the frot office was, and went to the desk where we pointed to the security monitors behid the exasperated prick of a night watchman. He turned, saw the recording of us chasing each other like children, then just shook his head in disgust and returned to his crossword puzzle.

There's no way to properly instill a sense of just how much the term "itchy tasty" meant to myself and my friends at this place during that half a year between late 96 and early 97. We said it in so many conversations, we greeted each other with it. To use it was just this stupid little thing that was special to us, this hilarious thing that when taken out of context would make no sense to anyone else. It was "ours", you know? It would take a good 25 years before I started hearing other people, sich as the Youtube group the Super Best Friends, casually throw that exact same term out with an equal lack of context and I swear it almost made me tear up. It wasn't just a nostalgic reminded of a very specific and long-gone point in my youth, it was as if I'd discovered someone else who understood the humor of the term, the magic power of the "code". Since that time I've actually seen several things from Tshirts to podcast titles that are named "Itchy tasty" and I can't help but feel like I was somehow ahead of the curve or something. Good times.

I remember playing the beggining of RE1 a bunch of times.

    for 2 reasons.

    1- I didn't understand english, so I didn't know what to do.

2- Was way too scared to explore past the 2nd zombie. (and always had barry kill the 1st one for me... XD)

then I basically didn't touch RE until I had RE4 for the ps2. which still is the best game in the franchise. I understood some english by then... enough to understand the story...kinda..

Hiding from Jack in RE7 didn't "scare" me (I was 40 when I first played, I don't get scared by most things anymore) but I found it enjoyably tense and sometimes even physically uncomfortable. The stealth sections of that game are my favorite by far.

I was playing Resident Evil 3 Remake. I had just finished Carlos's first section and watching the scene where Jill talks to Carlos after the train is derailed. It was my very first RE game and I was having a lot of fun with it. I was curious about where the game was going to go now that Nemesis was apparently out of action. When the water started bubbling, I thought that Nemesis had actually taken swim lessons and that he was going to climb out and continue chasing Jill. What I saw convinced me to play the rest of the series and that this wasn't just some zombie game with a few special ones. I remember going "HOLY ######### #########!" upon seeing what Nemesis had mutated into. It actually made the boss fight a little harder because I was just in awe of what had just happened. Nemesis had just leaped out of the water and had turned into this big monster that looked to be even faster than his first stage and I thought it was so awesome.

I was gifted one of the first RE titles on DS (I think), the one where thereโ€™s a group of people and they get killed in the grass by dogs, I assume.

I decided to give the RE series another shot. I had grown up, I wasnโ€™t 4 years old like the first time, and I really enjoyed horror.

    Plated RE2, RE3, RE7, & 8. Amazing games!

Playing resident evil 2 was always a 2 man job for my siblings and I: 1 to play the game, and 1 to wait near the power button ready to switch it off the moment we got an unexpected jumpscare. We were very young and perhaps shouldn't have been allowed to play the game, looking back on it.

In 1996, the release of Resident Evil was something really great: it was an insanely exciting horror game and I was all excited.ย

The intro alone was so novel: a quasi-horror movie that played before the game, with creepy dogs and action. XD

The game had me hooked from the first moment and my past self experienced a lot with Miss Valentine.ย

There were so many jumpscares and creepy creatures. I loved it. Unfortunately, I have to admit that many of the sequels weren't really RE for me anymore and the remakes didn't excite me quite as much, even though I played through them all.ย

But for that reason, I'm so excited that Jill will be available as a character, even if she doesn't really resemble her appearance back then anymore. :)

I miss the old, original blond Jill even if I fell in love with Remake Jill. It's fair to say that Capcom's decision to go with the Jill model that they have now was..........a bit controversial.

I remember playing RE 7 for the first time. At first, I immediately assumed it was another cheap knock off zombie game, like Left 4 dead, or Last of us. I was happy to have been proven wrong, its a really unique story, with interesting ways, to make horror, and though I was slightly disappointed with RE Village, I was still happy to have been introduced to this franchise.

This is kinda embarrassing.. but I never played any resident evil games except for 4. I always watched my siblings play them and it was amazing, so I did grow up on them. But, my very first experience I ever had was Resident Evil 4, I never finished the game however, when I was younger I was more scared of animals than humans. I trusted humans more, so when I made it to the hedge maze with all the dogs, i actually quit and never played again. I was so traumatized of that particular area, I grew out of the fear now and I'm gonna finish it, but holy hell that was scary haha

Playing the original and then being absolutely AMAZED when they remade it on GameCube. One of the best remakes I've ever played and I'll go back to it every once in a while and enjoy my time with it.

The new Jill is beautiful, but it's just not "my" Jill.

However, I can understand why this model was chosen. And I will play her, that's for sure.ย

However, I hope that we do not get the Chris skin from the new games - that would be virtually a 2nd David from the optics and there can be only one sexy David King. XD

The first RE game I ever played was 7.

Being hounded by Jack and finally discovering what happened to him and his family is one of my favorite gaming moments.

I'm very thankful 7 introduced me to the rest of the franchise, and I wasn't disappointed by 8 at all!
