I'm curious, how'd you get into dbd? Memory thread since the anniversary is coming out

For me, I had a friend constantly nag me into getting this game and I always said no.

I then decided to give it a shot and just fell in love with it.

XxSomsthxX was their name, unfortunately they quit playing dbd a long time ago, refused to touch it again.

Certainly was an experience I wasn't prepared for haha

Ahhh, but it was a fun one.

Know this though, even though the game is in a rough spot, it's still an enjoyable one

Even though some decisions have been rather..odd, I'm still incredibly hopeful for the future.

Just randomly found it while I was browsing Steam. It was June 1, 2020.

Youtube and a friend who played the game told me I should get it.

That was about 4 years ago now...

I had a friend suggest the game because he saw videos of it on youtube and thought it seemed fun. Started playing it and although it was a exploit/bug infested game (and still is), it was still very unique and I had a great first impression.

The game was new, unique, scary, exciting, had something to grind for and fun to play with friends.

It was the year of 2018. I was playing Friday the 13th: The Game with a friend. Jason wasn't really doing anything so we just kept talking, and when I asked him about game suggestions he mentioned Dead by Daylight. I bought it 1 month later.

It's funny how we look back on some things, just minor things such as that lead us to a big game.

It's kinda nostalgic. It's like looking at the first letter of a book you read that really stuck with you.

Watch watching clips of Silent Hill, the movie. The scene with the Nurses didn't pop up, so I was hunting for it. Came across some streamer playing Nurse. Intrigued me, so I picked up the game. Was back in 2019. Nurse was my first killer. I thought I would be the top 0.03% that would be instant god tier with her.

First, back in 2016 I watched a Let's Play from a popular German YouTuber. He was playing with his friends and that's when I first had the feeling like: "Hmm, should I get this game, it looks interesting." But I didn't buy it then yet.

Then a friend asked me if I want to buy the game since he'd play it as well. We both just bought it and played for a bit.

Now me, 5 years later with 4.450 hours playing without this friend anymore. He stopped only a few months later when we started in Sep. 2016. But during this journey I got to know 3 people I still want to meet irl. We became quite good friends.

I was a big Friday the 13th: The Game fan, but when the game began dying and began to suck, I happened to find DbD as a part of a Halloween Humble Bundle back in 2017. I didn't play it until a week after Bubba release. It was just kinda in the backlog of games I wanted to try.

Decided to try it out since it was the only other game like F13. Loaded into my first lobby and told the people it was my first game and I had an Ace respond with "Leave". First match was was on Swamp against a Huntress and I fell in love with the game.

Though i was confused to why the killer was faster than survivor, cause how were we supposed to escape. XD

    I can't go into detail.

And not because i don't want to, i literally can't cause there's no details.

    1. I found its beta on Steam one day.
    2. I bought it to try it out.
    3. I downloaded and installed it.
    4. I played it.
    5. Repeat #4 indefinitely.

I'm not sure where i saw the game for the first time, maybe steam.

At that time i couldn't buy games and maybe after a year or two i decided to buy the game. the only game i really wanted on steam was DBD.

    I regret nothing 🙂

In October 2020, I was lucky to get the base game and 1 DLC (Chains of Hate) for free from a gaming website giveaway. I wasn't too sure about it at first, as I usually don't play online multiplayer games. But I quickly got into the game, and I have now put several hundred hours into it.

I play an MMO called Star Wars Galaxies, which runs on an emulation server. A friend I had made in that game told me she also had an Xbox and wanted to get me into DBD so we could play, this was around the start of the year 4 event.

    Gronkh I guess?

    @Topic:

I watched it when a big German Youtuber (Gronkh, lol) played it with friends. I really liked it and watched every episode. Once I had a decent PC, I started playing it myself.

And I played it A LOT since then.

    I'm a lifelong horror fan.

Was enjoying Friday 13th: The Game, heard about DBD coming to PS4 via the hype for the Halloween chapter. Brought it on release week on disc.

Before DBD, I was really into Payday 2. So Starbreeze, who were publishers of both games back then, promoted DBD before it was released. I played the beta and here we are 5 years later.

Overwatch is basically dead, so I've been looking for another online MP game to get into. Picked up this on a whim since it's on gamepass. Love it.

Similar to a lot of other stories here, I really loved Friday The 13th & always had so much fun on it with friends so I decided to one day look into other games that played the same way. Ended up finding Dead By Daylight & after putting it off for some time, eventually ended up buying it for myself & a friend of mine.

Man those were the days. The feeling of being a deer in headlights because I was new is something I can never recreate.

God, if all they did was put Jason in dbd 6th year anniversary, I'd personally believe people would lose their minds in excitement

Which I would. Friday the 13th was my favorite slasher before I watched TCM... Jason still holds a place in my heart

Absolutely. Given the current circumstances with the never-ending lawsuits when it comes to Jason though, I highly doubt BHVR will get their hands on him any time soon. :[

I actually don't remember...I do know I knew about it back in 2016 and I played it a few times on free weekends until I could buy it. I'm sure it was a video on Youtube that sparked my interest. I remember learning about this game and thinking it was something I'd love to play because I've always been a huge fan of horror. I was not disappointed. I really love this game despite the flaws it has.

I discovered Dead by Daylight back in 2017 when I was watching Bereghostgames and found a video on it.

Because I'm a huge horror fan, I knew this was the game for me. I started playing in November 2017.

I'm a big fan of Dark Souls and used to watch Otzdarva when he was mainly a Dark Souls content creator. I kept up with the DS2 no hit run attempts but other than that I didn't watch too much of his content for a while. Eventually a video from someone else called Not Otzdarva appeared in my recommended. If I remember correctly it was a video of him playing clown and I had no idea how the game worked but I was captivated. For context on how little I understood I thought killers were slower than survivors and had to use mindgames to catch them, that clown has really strong since he could slow survivors down, and that hook states didn't exist and hook progress just picked up were it was when they got unhooked. Anyway I kept watching and eventually understood how the game worked and bought it on sale late November last year.

I used to love watching H20Delirious, and to this day he was always my favorite one in the crew. Anyways, out to watch another daily video he posted this video.

This was the first time I ever heard of the game, and it looked amazing to me. Unfortunately I didn't have a good PC, still don't, so I had to wait until it came on console. I still remember the agonizing wait it took for it to come on Xbox.

Saw it on PC and really wanted it because it was so unique. The moment it came to ps4, I played it non-stop and even got my friends to play it.

My cousin kept telling me about the game, but I couldn't play because my internet was garbage and I wasn't going to pay for Playstation Online when my internet was 2 mbps.

Then one day, I went to visit and they asked me to give it a try. I think I was Kate against a Huntress. (This was December 2019). They explained things like scratchmarks and noises and the killer's heartbeat. I spent most of my first match hiding in a locker against a huntress until the hum went away. I don't think I lasted more than twenty seconds in chase and died on my first hook.

After that, I found out the game was on Switch, and I already paid for Nintendo's online subscription. The price was more reasonable for my absolutely garbage internet. So I decided I'd give it a try. My first game as Dwight didn't go very well. Lerys against a Spirit. I said to myself "Playing Survivor sucks, I'm just going to play killer." So I played Spirit, had no idea how her power worked, got walked all over. Then I tried Nurse next. If you want to get an idea of what Nurse is like on Switch, go watch Ardetha's video. And keep in mind I was a baby nurse at the time! I had no idea I was slower than survivors while walking. So you can just imagine how that match went. (Probably the single worst played game of DBD ever.)

After that, I didn't play much of DBD until my cousin got the game for Switch. That meant we could play, and they'd save me from the hook when my teammates wouldn't. They'd bring in perks like BT (playing Bill, obviously) and I started having a lot more fun. Decided to buy some chapters. Stranger Things was first. (Originally a Nancy Main!) That's when I really got into the game. Started learning it, going to the forums, discovering streamers, and figuring out just what this thing called 'looping' is. I've since moved on from the Switch version to the PS5 version. And I've upgraded my internet from 2 mbps to 200 mbps.

I used to watch it back in 2017 then I got it early 2018, game seemed like a lot of fun, I started and MM destroyed me, quit for about 3 months, picked it up again until now.
