Big Thanks to BHVR <3! Also, do dedicated servers mean auto-rejoin SWF?
I don't usually write posts, but I had to go out of my way to celebrate the dedicated server update. I'm very, very excited about the new possibilities! Not having to rely on the killer's ping and client means an end to a lot of the network issues that make the game anti-fun at medium-low ping (lag switching, or even just lagging killers can mean a bad game for everyone involved. I couldn't play killer while I had decent internet because survivors would dodge the lobby or constantly teleport around). Plus, it means the game is being updated for a more modern era! Sure, the costs are worrying, and as the game dies down the servers will likely kill it faster, but still, I'm really optimistic.
Now, I'm no expert on networking, but there are a few things in forum posts, etc. that have caught my eye. First off, the post mentions a lot more freedoms for the devs to work out things about disconnecting, etc., and I'm hyped for that. Disconnecting can be aggravating, especially if you load-in with 3 people, and dedicated servers seem like a perfect fix. Having punishments (or even the option to redo lobbies) would be excellent.
MORE IMPORTANTLY! I remember reading a post that said when a SWF joins a killer lobby, the game "forgets" who the SWF host, which is why rejoining lobbies only works in KYF. Does this mean automatic rejoin? If so, PLEASE comment as such! If this is an intended feature, put it in the dedicated server FAQ because I see this question DAILY and many, many players including myself would be literally overjoyed with this small quality-of-life change. I know it was difficult to implement before, but if the framework is there, I'm very hopeful for the future.

No, that'd be way too much of a buff.

Awww mannn, they're already doing the legwork for it... A few extra lines of code and a text box for 100% another game transitions.0

I got to ask, that's sarcasm right?

Don't want to burst the bubble for you. But lag will still occur. Even with dedicated servers. It might even get worse. Depending on the servers location.
The devs could also make the community pay for the servers by giving us monthly fees.2 -

I doubt they can or will get away with suddenly adding in monthly fees to a game that has never had them. That's ridiculous.
You mean like adding dedicated servers to a game that was never developed with them in mind?
Yeah, sounds ridiculous. But here we are.1 -

If they tried that the game would die for sure
So who will pay for those servers? I mean, even EA let the players pay for dedicated servers for Betafield.
What makes you think Behavior can afford to give this service out for free?
Changing the code from P2P to dedicated servers probably wasn´t cheap to begin with.1 -

And you know it. Just stop. You always argued they may cause more problems, fine. But you can stop acting like it's going to ######### us all. It's a good step.0 -
