Advice on bringing a new player to the game.
I have a friend who's bought DBD recently, and after running a few KYF to teach them the basics I have a problem.
They like both Killer/Survivor and Killer is obviously only 1, but survivor..
If we were to become a 2 man SWF the matchmaking would probably take my rank into account as I am higher rank then him? I don't want a newbie to go against a much more experienced killer, not fun for the killer also.
Is it better to make them go solo until they get better at the game, or to 2 man SWF?
I've always ran solo up until now so I don't understand what is the best way to introduce someone to the game.

It always goes for the person with lowest rank in swf. Fret not, friend.

Ino this is frowned upon but it's probably best creating a 2nd account.
Just don't be toxic to the killer and just help out your friend. If they play with people your rank it will put them off completely.
Tell them to level Bill, Meg and David. Then say they can choose a main after that.
2 -
does it still do that? I thought they fixed that by calculating the mean rank of all swf members?

As far as I know, the matchmaking takes into account the average rank in an SWF group.
Best advice is to prepare them mentally for the inevitable losses until they get better at the game. Because it will happen, a lot. And also the inevitable annoyances (being camped, tunneled, stunned, etc.).

Just play with your friend. If they've got the basics down then they'll probably be okay (you can always give them more tips and whatnot along the way too).

Aha I know most killers would go for the babies which is why I opened this thread xD

If I make a second account would I have to buy the game again?
I wouldn't be toxic, hell we need more killers playing! I would sacrifice myself to the killer to motivate them.
Thanks for the advice they are a fan of Bill which does help :)

Let him play with your rank, just stick near him and guide him.

I've prepared them in KYF obviously as there is only 2 of us me being killer was hard.... (1 hooked in seconds)
As survivor I brought insta heals, flashlights, keys etc. Just to show them how OP they can be.
I also told them about the massive grind.
Even then they say they still want to play 0_0

Is it the best idea to throw a new player into the deep end? I don't want to be a burden on the other two survivors.
Also they still miss skill checks frequently 🤣
0 -
Surprisingly, yes, as long as you're not rank 1/2 difficulty doesnt really change.
And tell him not to go for great checks yet, they're not worth it.
0 -
So if I was purple rank would it put me with brown ranks?
0 -
Yeah I tell him to go for good skill checks 😉
Maybe we could try one match SWF and one where he is solo, and see which he likes best.
Which comes my next issue, I don't wanna "boost" him 😶
0 -
wym by boost? As I said, rank 20-3 means nothing in terms of skill; all the hard players are at 1-2.

On console no, not sure about pc. I know I'll probably get hate for suggesting it but honestly it's the best chance of getting them to stick to this game.
Those 3 I mentioned have the best starting perks for newer players. I would suggest Claudette too. You could include Feng there also (maybe before Meg and David).
Tell them there's an event starting on Wednesday for 2 weeks. Apparently during the event they will earn enough shards to buy 1 character for free. You should follow their Twitter to find out exactly how exactly you get them.

I understand I just don't want him to bite off more than he can chew perse.
Thanks for the advice! Very appreciated.

I know on the Switch I can make unlimited accounts, but the performance is soo bad I'd rather not 😅
I'm considering making him start with Min for Technician/Lithe, he can't hit the skill checks yet.
Thanks, I'll teach him about the event :) I also would like a new character.
Appreciate the advice <3

The least I can help is, let him play your acc, while you playing his. Put him all 4 2nd chance perks and you have Kindred, Borrow time and can start from there.
I dont know if you're allowed to doing so, but I do that with friends on other game

If you showed them all that and they still want to play, then it sounds like they're ready. Go on, in SWF or not, and have fun.

This was my thought too

I dont think this is true. I was playing on a 4 man recently. Im red, we had a purple, green and yellow. All our killers were red most games with the very iccasiinal r18 killer

Make a second account, you can swf with your friend at a low rank until they get better.

For those interested the conversation went like this:
Him: "Hey I bought DBD :D"
Me: "Why?"
Him: "I see you playing it often and wanted to try it out"
Me: "You do realize the grind is insane?"
Him: "Yeah, I like grindy games"
Him: "Can I practice killer with you?"
Me: "Sure"
Him: "Thanks!"
*Match Starts*
Me: *doing a gen*
Me: *sees Trickster in the background*
Me: "I was expecting something like Trapper but you actually bought Trickster?!"
Him: "Yeah he looks kinda neat"
Me: *slams face into desk*
Me: "You realize you could have bought him with in game currency?"
Him: "No, whats that?"
Me: "Currency you get for playing the game a lot"
Him: "What Really? Dam.."
Me: "He is also one of the weakest killers in this game"
Him: "Really? But he looks neat"
Me: *slams face into desk again*
Me: "Try and catch you, hint you won't, I'm here by this hill"
Him: "Okay!"
Him: *throws knives everywhere*
Me: *sprint bursts away*
Him: "Why are you soo fast?"
Me: "I have sprint burst and your a 110% killer"
Him: "WTFLMAO what's sprint burst and 110%?"

Thanks for the advice, unfortunately we live pretty far away from each other...

Feng first is grand 👍 just no matter what don't let them get urban evasion please 😂
Yea it's the best idea. It's just one people don't like to suggest because they know how bad it can be sometimes for a new killer to face an experienced survivor.
You need to pray the person doing it won't be toxic.
1 -
Yes they are sort of masochistic, hell the first killer match he used Trickster?!
He may be ready.

Interesting, do you know what % of games were with red rank killers and what % were with low ranks?
0 -
I did it for a buddy of mine. Id try and give the killers advice, most of the time they were receptive. Not always 😬
0 -
I would prefer to play on PC, but I don't want to buy the game again...

If i had to guess 99% red 1% noob 😂
They were getting slaughtered 😬

Literally I have had six friends try DBD and they all quit because of match making that so heavily favored the killers. It's funny how killer mains never mention that. I honestly wouldn't bring your friend into this game because it's miserable to start as a survivor, especially with a higher ranked friend. But since he already made the mistake of playing DBD...
Best advice for him though is to not play as a Blendette. Anyone can hide and do skill checks - being good at DBD is being good at chase. He will die a lot, but it's how you learn if you actually want to be good at DBD. At the start of every game, tell him to plan a few moves ahead. What loop he's going to run to, and where he will go after that if he takes a hit or throws the pallet, etc etc.
And YOU should definitely run Borrowed. A lot of killers camp and tunnel and won't be nice because someone is new and bad. Give him a chance to play a little more.

Thanks <3
Hell no I won't let him near Nea 🤣
If I know it's a new killer I'd just let them hook me at the end.
0 -
I remember when I was a rank 20 survivor, the killer would sometimes give me hatch/let me open the exit gates.
When I was a rank 20 killer survivors would drop there items (As baby killer I had no idea why they would do this), and point to the hook and let me hook them.
In EGC the killer/survivors were higher ranked then me and would give me advice, those days are long gone 😥
If I was the killer I'd appreciate your advice but wouldn't know why you dropped you item 😅
1 -
That poor 1% lol.
I should do this just to say this is what your getting into is this what you want?
He would probably say yes though 🤔
0 -
Couldnt hurt for him to see 🤷♂️

Thanks for the advice, yes I actually have a number of friends who were interested in the game but never actually bought it, this is a first...
When we played KYF I beasted him as killer I downed him in seconds, told him to use Soul Guard/Unbreakable, give him a break and then downed him again. I showed him the realities of the game as both roles but he didn't uninstall 🤨
I've taught him to plan ahead and I'm tempted for him to get Kate (WOO), as WOO works wonders for knowing where the pallets/vaults are.
Also I've told him if it's Bubba, it's basement time. 😆

Get them to use Feng.
0 -
I guess so, you gotta jump into the deep end eventually!
1 -
Yep I told them to use Feng to get Technician/Lithe (mostly Technician)
0 -
I’m a veteran, and even I still occasionally use Technician. Sometimes I just want to chill on gens and not worry about “hey killer, over here”
0 -
Bubba is still really easy to go against if you know how to counter him, which most survivors don't. I think Feng is the best survivor for beginners because all three are great for noobs right off the bat. I agree WOO would be good too, but Kate's other perks are pretty useless. And the number one thing - you cannot outrun the killer. You HAVE to look behind you. Yes, he will get stuck on things and die a lot, but there's no other way. One of my friends who quit would complain that she was bad at chase but would never learn loops, or accept the reality that you cannot just outrun the killer.
0 -
Really? I sometimes miss skill checks when chilling I might have to try it someday thanks 😀
0 -
Thanks,
Yes I remember trying to learn "looking behind you" I ran into trees, walls, rocks and the killer would just look at as if to say #########? Countless deaths 😅
They still don't understand 110%/115% etc. I agree with Kate WOO is the only good perk...
The looking behind you part I would probably use KWF to get him used to it.

Dance With Me has saved my butt many many times. Quite often if I’ve managed to break LoS quick enough after vaulting, the killer thinks I’ve done a juke and vaulted back the way I came.
Dance With Me works often for me because so few killers ever expect it.
0 -
I agree it's good, and it confuses killers a lot more than people realize, but your buddy needs to be chased in order to learn. That's why I don't think it's a good perk for a beginner. If you want to just lose the killer, be a Claudette.

welcome to the jungle.

Alteratively, how will they learn how to play if you take up all the low rank killer's time?
