[Story thread] I just had a survivor who picked up a crown, but would not take the hatch

I was getting the crown with Spirit and crushed some newbie survivors. However, because one of them (one of three Megs) had picked up the crown, I tried to give her the hatch.

I tried hitting the air and shaking my head left to right to indicate I was trying to get her to the hatch, but she always tried to wiggle free. Against my better judgement, I let her wiggle free as we slowly inched toward the hatch.

I eventually dropped her near it and went to the opposite side of the map. She didn't take it and, by the time I returned, she was gone.

I found her, picked her up again, this time dropping her directly on top of the hatch. Nothing. Ended up sacrificing her.

It was very weird. I'd kill to have a killer who gave me the hatch like that.

Maybe the Meg wants to unlock all of her crowns legit without being gifted the hatch or gate? That's legit the only reason I can think of, I'd take that hatch in a heartbeat.

Given that survivors have to escape to keep the crown, I doubt anyone is that stubborn.

I've had a few survivors yell at me for having mercy after a first hook suicide or a disconnect because they only want to escape if they feel they've earned it. Personally I think that's taking this game much too seriously but they can be pretty stubborn about it.

I agree that with conditions of getting the crowns being what they are it wouldn't make sense not to take the hatch just because of that, but nothing else I can think of makes sense either.

Maybe she already unlocked it? I continue to pick them up if I see them, because they grant BP and there's the new community goal to pick up crowns.

Meanwhile, I want my crowns and haven't had any killers that were good to me or any of my teammates.

I know you said they were newbies, maybe she was too and didn’t understand that hatch was an escape?

Also, I will say that when I get dropped on hatch the trigger to climb through is very finicky. You have to be over it at a specific spot for it to display the command.

Eh, not sure. Just some guesses.

I recently introduced a friend into DbD and we played a few matches in normal lobbies but also in KYF to show her and some others the base mechanics.

she panicked even when I told her to stop and watch while I played killer. I told her to follow me and she ran away even when i directly told her i want to show her the hatch and what sound it makes etc.

so.. maybe she played a few matches without me and panicked? XD

Maybe she had a daily to open the exit gates. IDK hard to say. I've had survivors refuse hatch before. But not during the event. Have only had one killer help me with my crown (well two if you count the doctor who farmed with me) would love to run into killers who care about survivors getting crowns. Even if selfishly wanting the rewards from 500k crowns.

Had the same thing. I mostly always try to give the Last Survivor the Hatch if he has picked up the Crown nso he can unlock it :D

I give hatch or gate a lot, and are there are some survivors that will always refuse it. It's very rare but they do exist.

Same here. I give a lot of hatches, and other than the obviously new player who might not understand the mechanic, I've only had a couple who wouldn't take it. One was a survivor who had kobed off the hook earlier in the match, and to respect the 4%. I tried to give them hatch at the end, and they kept crawling away to a hook instead.

I can kinda understand that in normal situations, but with the crowns being time-limited and more difficult for survivors to get (due to what happened in previous events), I just can't imagine someone doing that.

She probably already had the crown. Or didn't care. And I've refused to take the hatch before if the killer did something I didn't care for in the match. Sometimes its the principle, event or not.
