Can we please disable Sloppy Butcher?
Because no joke, every time I get hit with it, my game will freeze for practically 5 seconds, it's essentially a free, instant down against console players.

I feel like bhvr should abandone console at this point it's slowing down progress for new gen
9 -
Or, you know, they could... Do what was promised and try to optimize the game in any way at all?
56 -
how can you update the game graphically while keeping it optimized for 8+ year old consoles?
2 -
actually any status effect perk because that seems to just freeze the game
0 -
Do anything at all. This game does not look good enough to be running as badly as it does. Call of Duty games manage to look better and, while they don't run nearly as good as they would on PC, they still RUN.
That is all console players want. To have a game that runs. There is no excuse for the way it currently runs.
27 -
DbD itself is 5 years old aswell.
Optimizing or at least fixing common Fps drop triggers shouldn't be too hard
In comparison, games like Overwatch have WAY mire action going on but without ANY performance issues at all
25 -
If resident evil village can do it then I think bhvr stands a chance, with a game that's significantly less graphically intensive. For a multiplayer look at Paladins or Overwatch or maybe even Fortnight or Apex :/
It's not like there's a shortage of well-optimised recent releases lol
12 -
if that's the case, whatever, just give us cross progression! i know i'm not alone in the realization that if we have to start from scratch and rebuy every dlc, we're just going to quit instead. And until BHVR addresses this, we can't risk buying cosmetics for a dying game.

Plus my ps4 can run ghost of tsushima and RDR2 no problem. DBD is the only game my ps4 struggles with.

While that would be the way to go, the PS4 and Xbox one(?) are already out of fashion. The next gen is out and behaviour didn't manage what they promised when these consoles were state of the art.
Now when they are "dieing" (I have not idea how fast last gen consoles go out of service from their publisher) they won't make the effort and simply hope to avoid the topic with silence/ignorance until the console is completely dropped and the topic simply forgotten.
They will hopefully manage to fix the bugs that are currently breaking console performance but in my eyes this would only be to weather the storm of dissatisfaction and return to the silent treatment of pleas for optimization.

I was coming in here to be like "really? another killer perk complaint thread..." but am happy that this is an actually reasonable request. Good luck on getting the devs to follow through with it though.

Same with Dead Hard, it just freezes my game and every survivor I run into uses it and it's frustrating.
8 -
The problem is that only deactivating sloppy is only a drop on a hot stone.
All kind of effects are maybe having the same problematic effect. Even killer powers like docs shock or clowns gas effect and so one.
They would have to deacitvate all screen effects to aliviate the problem and I don't know if they could even if they wanted.
1 -
I mean I would be okay with it but they would also have to disable all status effect perks, add-ons, and even perks that lead to lag like sprint burst and dead hard. Not going to happen sadly

DbD is 5 years old but updating itself
PS4 is 8 years old and is dying out and will eventually lose support once PS5s become more available.

If what people who have delved into the code have said is true (and it being true explains some of the exploits that have been possible), then DbD is loading crap not even in use into every match. DbD needs to hire people who can fix the code. If they don't stop loading all the killer and survivor assets into every match, even for killers and survivors not being used, the game is going to just keep getting slower and slower for everyone, requiring more and more resources for no good reason. Loading times get longer and longer, and hackers/exploiters are able to bring a second killer into a match.
Only loading required assets into a match would go a long way to improving how the game runs. Everyone should want that, because again, as they keep adding more killers and survivors, the game will perform worse on all platforms.
PS4 and Xbox One could handle the game so much better without sacrificing graphics or mechanics with some optimization and by adding in options for controllers (and the next-gen consoles need those controller options, too, because not being able to set stuff like the dead zone hurts).
And if the devs really aren't going to fix the code, then they need to make cross-progression for PlayStation and Xbox a serious priority. People on PlayStation and Xbox just get screwed in so many ways right now, and we've put money into the game same as everyone else playing.

To add to this red dead 2’s online mode runs 60fps with 32 players. Dbd has no excuse

If Sloppy Butcher is enough to make the game freeze for about 5 seconds, what would a Freddy with Sloppy Butcher do to a console?
From what I've heard, the Dream World can cause some problems.
0 -
I saw someone post this online and this would probably make a console explode
5 -
Oh, I see...
This is basically instant death for a console survivor, then. Honestly, it is sad.
3 -
DBD doesn't have the effects to warrant the performance issues. That's using more powerful hardware as a bandaid for bad coding. BHVR needs to work on their code.
2 -
At first I was like "No! What's wrong with Sloppy Butcher". Then I read the thread and was like "oh". Honestly this isn't just a Sloppy Butcher problem... any time a console gets any sort of status effect it lags them. This is an optimization problem. One that Behavior really needs to get on top of.
1 -
It's crazy that the game runs much better on PC when there are millions of combinations of configurations out there, and they can't get it to work on a few consoles, even if they are eight years old. It's not really expecting too much to be able to play a game you bought.
2 -
If they disabled perks based on fps drops then Survivors would end up losing access to a lot of the meta perks.
Imagine the outcry if deadhard was not available.
0 -
I'd be fine with that considering this is the effect it has on people
And the outcry would get them to fix their #########
1 -
Wait wait wait, they found out that the dbd code loads ALL assets, used or not, in every trial?
If that is true than everybody from behaviours dev team would have to be fired.
What reason would there be for any game to load every bit of unused assets all the time.
Imagine league of legends or rainbow six siege loading all champions, tools/operator assets into every match. Half the PC and all of the consoles would burn.
2 -
Let's just say,Freddy isn't exactly fun to go against on console ☻
1 -
Holy #########, that looks painful as hell.
2 -
It really is 😧
1 -
Isn’t it a global issue with status effects?
Like, if I remember correctly from my PS4 days, this lag would occur no matter how Mangled was applied.
0 -
I feel sorry for ya, console players. Hopefully the situation will get better, eventually.
2 -
yeah it's more the application of the status effect than anything. In addition to status effects, Killer Instinct such as Legion's Frenzy and "pulses" like Demo charging shred are awful as well.
NOED used to kill survivors on hook even if you mashed struggle
0 -
Unrelated but I love your username
Also you would think they would fix it before the update leaves ptb
Let's just hope they find a fix soon as ngl this paired with crown issues on certain killers kinda ruins this anniversary event for a bunch of people

More partical effects and projectiles to track, but there's actually a lot less unique interactions than DBD. Just think about the loadouts. Overwatch has set skills for every character, so there's no variance to their programming in play. There are hundreds of perks, offerings, items, add ons and powers in DBD and they all have to interact with each other in so many more combinations than overreach could imagine.

Yes!

Killer hits survivor with Sloppy Butcher -> survivor receives the hemorrhage and mangled status effect = Screen Freezes for the survivor
Why should such a simple interaction cause a huge FPS drop?
And i don't see what kind of interactions should be that complicated to justify FPS drops.
Just look at this clip
Just a Prove Thyself icon popping uo on my screen caused a freeze.

Yup, it's bad. Here's a link to the full explanation. I think I undersold just how detrimental it is for performance.

Its a lot. I made a list of like 30 things the game checks for when the killer hits someone and then I hit the "new discussion" button. I'm not saying its not fixable, but they have to find out which of the probably 50+ on-hit checks it makes is the one interacting with the sloppy butcher to cause the bug. Just understand there's a lot of nooks and crannies they have to go through while management is like "WHERES THE NEW CONTENT?!"
