Why are the devs so reluctant to reduce the grind?
There has been literally nothing done in four years to reduce the grind (other than the archive which isn’t great), and it only gets worse every chapter. A million suggestions such as perk tiers being removed, increased BP from each game, letting people choose what perks to unlock, etc have all been suggested to help the grind.
What are they doing? They aren’t even trying out different options, or acknowledging the fact that the grind is bloody ridiculous for new players. It’s gatekeeping.

I think it's time the devs remove atleast one tier of perks and leave it at 2 tiers.

Because it's a "PLaYer ReTEntiOn" mechanic.
The grind needs to be reduced severely. It's just nuts. Not even BBQ and we're gonna live forever are making a dent in it

Because their marketing model is not based on retaining players, but in bringing in short term customers every 3 months.

Especially since there’s no guarantee you get them when levelling up a new character…

I'd say it's because they know it's what makes the game so addictive. I find myself playing more for getting points to get that one perk on a certain killer or survivor rather than for the enjoyment of the game. Even if they were to get rid of perk teirs it the grind would still be massive so I don't get why they can't at least do this

This. Trying to get Iron Will 3 for example is a nightmare

Because grinding is something, human actually want, maybe even need. Not knowingly, but deep inside their subconscious. It makes us happy to gain something we worked for and we do this as long as we have something to do. As soon as we run out of the grind, our mind will ask for something new.
The devs are smart by not giving us our needs we desire to quickly. Your frustration actually proves that my theory is correct, since you care.

I’m not new to the game. Every chapter there are more characters to grind, and it’s getting out of control

Best part is that they didnt even mentioned grind in their stream, same as console optimization...so theres your answer

Yes indeed there is a lot to grind, but what else would there be to do other then play the game? I know how this sounds but like i said, humas need that..
Personally i think the grind is ballanced for everyone. Beginners get perks quickly, the average gamer has the build he or she desires relative quick together too and the hardcore gamer will always have to do something to get every single perk for every single character. Mentioned that, i think it would not hurt the game if they make it a little bit more easy for us, just a little bit.
How about that: You gain 100% BP for the first match you play a day, and for each additional round you gain +5% until you reach 150% ? (so 2nd game 105% BP, 3rd game 110% BP, 4th game 115% BP etc)

Cause it's working for them.

Because they listen to all the people who've been playing the game for years and only continue to play because of the grind.

During this event I am trying to get all perks: first unlocked, meaning ALL character i own only to level 40 and then all PERKS on one character for each side, oni on killer side since he seems to be one of the most accepted killer from this forum and then either all perks on nea or Kate.
But damn if only this much is not already a pain in the butt. Not even prestige anything or leveling all to level 50. I am already lucky enough to have any tier of bbq on most of my killer.

Once upon a time, you only got 1 perk per web. Not two per web (past level 40). Did this reduce grind a small amount and help you to get more opportunity to get a perk you would rather have over another quicker? Yes. Did this remotely reduce the grind enough for those of us that buy all 4 DLC's every year and P3 all those characters and want all of them to have all near 100 perks that are now out there? Not by a long shot. This game is too grindy for players that have been around only a couple years and unfathomably grindy for new players IMO. Either the cost of items needs to be reduced by 2K across the board, double BP payout over the current rate, or reduce all perks to 1 tier. Cutting the grind by half would not be out of the question IMO. We want to encourage new people to want to stick around. Not see they are looking at climbing Mt. Everest and have them bail 50 hours into how ridiculously how behind they are and the task ahead. If I was new to this game I would not dare spend a penny on DLC that I didn't feel I had to have. I have bought it all, but I have been around since 2016. I wouldn't invest that much money if I had that much challenge ahead of me.
