Why does this community complain about lightborn so often
After games I frequently get people whining about lightborn calling me bad for using it. If its so bad you should be happy I wasted a slot on it right? I always hear, "Just look at a wall" or "just look up." Like its not that simple, I haven't been blinding by a flashlight when I could move my camera in years. I'm getting blinding picking people up, like no duh look at a wall. I'm a red rank killer, you really think I don't know to look at walls? Usually there's no wall and I can't look up when I'm picking up a survivor, kind of locks your camera ya dummies. I know I could go out of my way to chase lights away but then they'll just either rescue the person I downed already or the light will come back if I let them go. I'd rather just use lightborn and get my free pickup without a care in the world. No surprises to bother me. Its not a perk I use because its particularly good, its a perk I use because I get annoyed dealing with flashlights and now flashbangs when I can just ignore them.

Wait people are actually calling others out for... lightborn?
I completely forgot that perk existed and haven't seen it in my matches for the past several months lol.

I have only seen one lightborn and that was when no one even had a flashlight while loading.

Exactly, no one uses it so people are like "you're bad for using it"

I do that, just in case they find a light in game from chests.

Me, too! Lightborn has been permanently installed on all my killers since not long after dedicated servers went live; that was when, due to latency or bugs, the normal counters to flashlights stopped being reliable.

A PERSON WHO UNDERSTANDS!

This post is quite literally the first lightborn-related complaint I see.

Yeah its cuz I'm not complaining about lightborn itself, I'm complaining about the peoples response to it. Since basically no one runs it no one else gets this side of the complaint, they're just the ones mentioned in the post if anything.

Hilariously I just accidentally used lightborn because it was on my billy when I went to get his crown. I had a survivor D/C when they couldn't blind me.

There are a few factors about Lightborn that are problematic:
- It provides zero feedback that it is in play.
- It completely negates the use of an item altogether. No counterplay, rendering flashlights useless unless it is a Wraith, Hag, or Nurse. Can't think of any other perk that does this.
- It punishes you for using an item for its intended purpose.
Instead, it should only increase the amount of time and/or battery life required to blind.

Nah, leave it be, its perfectly fine

hard disagree, any survivor experienced with flashlight can recognize lightborn due to timing
it negates 1 item type out of 4
its one perk slot that could have been used for better ones
Its only really punishing if you're prioritizing flash light saves over gens or using flash light in the open when the killer is chasing (which in most case the killer will just look away to deny it)

It's amazing for a niche use. But it's too niche.

I enjoy that a few others already replied to this and said mostly what I wanted to say as is. I just wanted to add that its already a very rare used perk because the community generally deems it low tier when many other perks could be used. Making it so its not a complete immunity like it is would make it so that truly no one uses it because now you want to take away the only useful part of it. Not to mention your argument about "punishes you for using an item for its intended purpose." The only time that extra reveal has ever helped me punish a flashlight user has been on the ones who just taunt with it for no reason, only ever follow the chases for saves not helping their team with gens, or try to blind me while I'm breaking a pallet which is already keeping me there. There shouldn't need to be a counterplay to lightborn when lightborn is the counterplay to the lights.

People always hurl abuse at me if I use Lightborn (which I bring if I see 3 or 4 flashlights.) I'm pretty sure this because the kinds of teams that go full flashlight play the game for flashlight saves and harassing the killer, not gens and escaping, and they get pissed when they can't do it.
But that's why I bring it - because I don't like having to slug the entire team to pick one person up and because I can get some hilarious hits in before they clue in that I have it. Lightborn is just a massive QoL perk in those kinds of games and cathartic besides.
