List me reasons why people hated old billy enough for him to be nerfed as hard as he did.

There are a couple obvious ones I see for myself.

1. Instasaw addons

( Self explanatory )

2. Drift king addons

( more of a meme but allowed him to traverse maps more easily. I personally didn't have a problem with it. )

3. Can camp well with the chainsaw

( you used to be able to keep it revved up, but now it isn't as easy. Overheat still didn't change how easy it is to hook trade with him though. )

That's about all I can think of off the top of my head, were there any other reasons?

There is the Crack Billy, but I don't think it was complained about as much as Insta-Saw was.

It was literally mostly the addons from what ive heard. Some people hated back revving and camping. Is bubba any better? Bubbas leagues more campy and at least billys backrev requires some skill.

The only thing that anybody thought could be legitimately annoying were the add-ons. Some of the busted ones should have been changed like with Huntress, but nobody thought that his base power should have been nerfed. It is very strange that they actually went through with that change.

He was strong but I didn't mind him. I find him hilarious looking and funny. Usually had fun against him even if I died in the end.

Keep in mind that I played on console tho with no crossplay back in the day.

Crack billy really only worked for good Billy's. Otherwise it was just better map traversal, depending on the map of course.

  • GeneralV
    GeneralV Member Posts: 11,687

That is true, but I do recall seeing people complaining about it. Which, truth be told, I never really understood why.

The only "OP" thing about Billy was the infamous Insta-Saw, and even that can be debatable.

People will complain about everything, especially if they get beaten by somebody who's better than them.

And against someone who's good at curving and timing with crack billy... woo boy they would be destroyed.

  • GeneralV
    GeneralV Member Posts: 11,687

Yeah, I suppose that is true. Which is very sad, to be honest.

People should understand that just because they got beaten doesn't mean the other side is "OP" or "broken".

But maybe that is too much to ask.

  • BingBongMan
    BingBongMan Member Posts: 631

Yep, for a community like DBD's it is too much to ask.

To be fair though some things need to be complained about for it be hopefully noticed by the devs.

( kind of like how coldwind still sucks balance wise for most killers )

Not that it really matters anyways.

Our voices and feedback are usually ignored unless the situation reaches an extreme level or a verified Twitter account talks about it.

It was because he had a very high kill rate. Plus, Almo has gone on record (at least to my knowledge) that Hillbilly is his least favourite killer. This probably didn't have too much impact as the balance team consists of many people, but it's something to note.

They wanted to make that killrate go down, and they sure did.

  • BingBongMan
    BingBongMan Member Posts: 631

Well I mean... we both know most measurable metrics aren't entirely reliable for dbd. Too many factors to measure a lot of things properly, etc.

The only thing that was busted was his instasaw addons, everything else was fine.

    Reason No 1:

    Devs could not juke Billy

    Reason No 2:

They needed someone to nerf between the Pig nerfs so its not to obvious to us

Playing against a good Billy is leagues better and more fun than a Bubba. He had counterplay (still has) and felt like an absolutely blast to play against even when he was really good.

    —-

I don’t really understand why they nerfed his base kit.

  • MrDardon
    MrDardon Member Posts: 4,039

    Drift King is still possible.

    Insta Saw was busted.

Crack Billy or rather "Omega Billy" is Billy but with a buffed power in every single way possible.

His overheat is annoying but not really noticeable if you play him normally. But in that case they might as well remove it. He doesn't need the overheat and it only limits Engraving Billy's who mastered curving (which shouldn't be punished but rather rewarded).

Had a Billy last match who curved decently well. 2 of us escaped but he was still good with Billy. He just gets overshadowed by the brainless Bubba and yeah.. choosing Bubba over Billy is obvious, why play the high risk Killer if you can get the same result with a low risk high reward Killer?

None of those reasons were the reason I thought he should be nerfed. As someone who plays primarily survivor, I despised playing against billy because he was a character that had insane mobility and an insta down to boot and was very easy. I confirmed this when I started playing Billy myself at the time and despite being horrible at chases, I was able to win often just using my chainsaw for mobility and when i got to rank 10, i was able to just hold my chainsaw and get instadowns. The only perks I ever ran on him were tinkerer, enduring, and whatever other generic perks i had. I got to rank 3 pretty easily and then I started playing other killers and saw just how hard killer was to actually play lol. Billy was a crutch and when they nerfed him I didnt have any other super easy killer I could run without needing slowdown perks. I didnt like it at first but then realized that it also meant I didnt have to struggle against him as much which Im thankful for and would rather have no killer i can play well if that means not having to deal with him as survivor. Even if that also means I can no longer have easy games as killer.

I’m going to go ahead and just say it..

My honest opinion on why I think Billy was destroyed instead of just changing maybe 2-3 addons is to incentivize people to ditch an original, well designed killer and either buy or play another one more often.. like Bubba.. a licensed killer.

  • Warcrafter4
    Warcrafter4 Member Posts: 2,917

It was more or less because a group of around 10-12 people cried about billy constantly for well over 6 months strait so the devs nerfed him hard to shut those people up.

I feel like if Billy gets a revert it will be a sign of humility from the devs that they will revert things that just don't work...But we all know that will never happen!

When the game was in it's first year my lil group of r1 survivors used to practice with this hillbilly main a lot, he was way more talented on billy and terrifying than any 5000 hours nurse I ever saw he was incredible, but those billies were so rare to see I can't fathom why he was nerfed.

Quit bull [BAD WORD]. It was too easy with old Billy. Just like it was too easy with old nurse or Freddy 2.0. And on console red ranks were just saturated with Billy players, because it was easy.

He is still a good killer, but look how much less he is played now that he requires just a little bit more skill.

I was once told those who didn't want the Billy nerf were a vocal minority. That made me question life

  • WishIcouldmain
    WishIcouldmain Member Posts: 4,082

Except the insta down actually took effort and good survivors knew how to play around the chainsaw.

You do know it took actual skill to down with the chainsaw wasn't like Bubba where one miss and you can still get them.

Or he's not fun to play anymore. That stupid roar, terrible music, and jank animations have sucked alot of life out of him. Then they added a pointless mechanic and left him with all D tier addons. After all that why would people play Bill anymore?

  • FFirebrandd
    FFirebrandd Member Posts: 2,446

Haven't you noticed that the Dev's have been generally heavily modifying any Power that doesn't have Ammo or a Cooldown or Charges that need to come back or anything and not releasing any more? In my opinion, it's been obvious that the Devs have decided they don't want Killers who can use their power 24/7. So... that's why Billy got the overheat mechanic. Because previous to the rework, Billy could just... constantly use his chainsaw.

Billy's Addons needed changes because, well Insta Saw was a bit problematic. They decided to give him stealth options since... well idk what else they'd give him to replace the perks to modify his numbers. The odd yell probably got added so the Survivors could have at least a little warning if he starts the chainsaw near them with Apex Muffler while already undetectable.

    apathyinc Member Posts: 473

Yeah, actual minimum skill. This isn't complex woodworking, you just get behind a survivor and press a button.

  • Pepsidot
    Pepsidot Member Posts: 1,662

Before he was nerfed there was always complaints about him having the best of both worlds. AKA, great mobility and an instadown ability - both of which with little restrictions. Then there were also complaints about insta saw.

The only issue I had with him was instasaw. If they had just nerfed those addons that would have been nice.

  • apathyinc
    apathyinc Member Posts: 473

So there you have it. You like easy mode, a lot of players do. He is still fun to play, his core gameplay is the same You just aren't having fun because it's not as easy to win as it used to be.

Blight barely has a one shot ability, has an ability cool down, and takes a lot more effort to play effectively. I don't see how he has the same problems as old Billy.

What about in high wall loops where Billy really struggles? Or certain short wall loops? Old Billy struggled in those as well.

Blight can down survivors a lot faster than Billy. What are your thoughts on Leatherface? Does he need a nerf?

  • GeneralV
    GeneralV Member Posts: 11,687

Can someone please get a verified Twitter account to talk about Billy?

Maybe that will fix this problem, since our endless feedback is apparently not enough.

    Leatherface has no mobility,only instadown.

Hillybilly had mobility and lethality too,he was excellent in everything and braindead easy to play

As far as I have gathered, most people liked playing as and against the old Billy. No idea why they changed him as I wasn't around, but the vibe I get was that it wasn't very justified.

  • glitchboi
    glitchboi Member Posts: 6,023

So... was he was good in every loop in the game? Does he excel in every single map in the game?

The issue with Billy is that he is a very map-reliant killer. He'll struggle on maps like Lery's, Hawkins, The Game, and Raccoon City.

On certain maps his mobility can be inconsistent, you'll have to cancel your chainsaw at times. Blight's able to handle this better.

He's a lot harder than most of the killers in the game, believe it or not. You should've tried playing him with no add-ons before his nerf.

Instasaw addons should have been nerfed, but the base performance shouldn't have been tweaked. That nerf was overkill, and Billy's current usage rate says it all. (I've met Billy, but he's all newbie killer.)

I like playing against the Billy. Please let us meet more.😥

People had a problem with Billy’s basekit meanwhile we have a killer who is about to down you with 12 mini knives. 👀

Or a Killer when pressing M2, any kind of feedback on the Killers power from Survivor PoV is removed.

But yeah, giving Billy an unneeded mechanic seems okay.

Wraith can still spam his power and I don't think they're planning on changing it.
