Im out of the loop. What new ban system?

During a stream before they released the RE chapter someone from BHVR mentioned a "auto-ban" system.

There is no new ban system yet
As to what everyone is so scared of, people are petrified by the name (since unless I missed something, BHVR hasn't said anything else except the name of it). People are under the assumption based on the name that if you get reported X amount of times, you are automatically banned from the game.

so we are afraid of how an auto ban system will function. how does an AI know when its right to ban? from mass flagging? thats abusable.
from key words? something can be taken out of context from the AI. it can turn into a horrible situation if not implemented properly.

I hope, how it works, is that mass reports will get an account looked at by a human.
I ALSO hope that people abusing the system to report things like 'He camped' and 'He used Doctor' will, in turn, be punished for misusing the report system.
Basically, what I hope for: If you report someone, your account is also flagged for reporting. And if you make ENOUGH reports in a small period, a human mod will look at the meat of WHAT you are reporting to see if you're abusing it. If you are; you are timed out of the reporting system in escalating amounts (but not told so), and it can lead to permanent withdrawal of your reports being put into the system in the first place.

People are scared and don't understand the concept of an automated banning system. They think that if they get report enough by anyone and for any reason, they'll get banned.
It's just mob mentality or whatever you want to call it, people switched their brains off and followed the loudest screamers.
3 -
The devs literally said on stream when the announced it that if you get enough reports your banned.
Its not people making it up its the devs saying it works in an extremely stupid way then backpedaled HARD on their statements.
5 -
And here we have another one who thinks that such an insane amount of exposition is proof that there is nothing more and we should all run.
1 -
<_> I was just pointing out what came out of the horse's mouth and how the community reaction to it got the devs to reconsider it.
3 -
Yes
5 -
The community is a bunch of morons that took an off-hand statement as gospel truth.
Edit: I didn't think this needed clarification, but that is directed at the community as a whole, not any individuals. Seriously, we went stupid.
1 -
There is no way bhvr will ban majority of their playerbase. Knowing how salty everyone gets I bet they report like crazy most of the games. Even when they win.
I see this as irrational fear like I said multiple times when this came up.
2 -
Why wouldn't we when that's literally how they said it will work.
Also look at the screen shot from the official announcement of the system above your comment.
Idk why your being so hostile when I am bringing up objective facts of the matter.
2 -
So they specifically said that the system wasn't ever going to look at anything else and that it's just going to go by the number of reports?
No?
That's why I'm annoyed. Because the entire community went dumb and decided that because they didn't elaborate on the specifics of the system, that the system had nothing to it.

I like you and agree with you on a lot of topics (like this one for example) but I am not a fan when you call people names like you did here.
2 -
It IS being looked at BECAUSE the community reaction to it was so horrible.
I have said this already in this very thread.
1 -
I'm not calling any individual names, I'm calling the entire community, that I'm also a part of, names.
0 -
The community reaction was completely unwarranted and based entirely on fearmongerong. That's my point. We all just went super stupid and followed the loudest voices and made the Devs freak out for no reason.

BHVR only said there was some sort of autoban system in the works and naturally everyone being totally reasonable and rational immediately concluded everyone will be banned because they triggered someone and got reported.
1 -
Mass hysteria! That's the concept I was thinking of. Some people misunderstood the base concept and freaked out, which triggered everyone else in a cascade of suspicion and ignorance that swept the entire community and left it with the deep emotional scarring of "Oh my gods, we're all going to be banned just for playing the game".
It's just what happens when humans get together. There's no individuals at fault, not really, it's just mass hysteria. People being dumb because we can't help it until we step away. And the idea just got cemented.

Yeah but it is an offensive word that still feels kinda directed at people who took this seriously more than the "whole community".
And also, you were jailed recently. I don't want you to get banned because of unnecessary things like this.
0 -
That's actually not what they said. I should know, I made the summary.
Edit: what they said was that it was still very early WIP and the two plans as of current were to either have a mass-flag system, where if someone were to receive x amount of reports within y time it'd trigger a penalty, or have the same thing be the case except the reports would instead be forwarded direct to BHVR staff. Very early WIP, very subject to change, maybe not implemented at all.

Yeah insulting an entire community when you're part of that same community is such a heinous crime lmao
0 -
If I get banned for being too harsh with an insult directed at myself as well, then I get banned. That's just how it is.
Every community has its dumb moments. If someone wants me gone for pointing out that we made a huge mistake, so be it.
1 -
The only people afraid are the ones that deliberately do stuff that warrants a ban.
1 -
Pleasant as always I see.
1 -
"We are going to take action"
So what does that actually mean?
Unless they have specifically said that the action will be "you will be banned if you receive enough reports against you", then yes, people are making assumptions and crapping themselves in rage over something they're assuming.
0 -
You expected different?
0 -
Considering the context in which they said it, it isn't unreasonable to infer that "taking action" meant starting to ban people.
Either way, a system based off of the amount of reports received alone doesn't seem like a great idea.

While I'm all for getting rid of some of the actual Turdburglars in this game, they'd better be sure something like this works fairly. If it's just based on the number of 'reports', then that seems like an invitation to abuse reports just because someone didn't like an outcome. If there are certain thresholds that trigger an investigation, then I can see it.

People were worried that everyone & their mothers would just report players they don't like.
