Up The Ante: the best worst perk? Or the worst best perk?
Up The Ante is undoubtedly the most unpopular survivor perk in the entire game. Luck serves only one purpose during a match: increasing the odds of successfully unhooking yourself upon your first hook, which in itself attempting to do so is a big gamble.
The thing is Luck stacks, and it’s possible to stack a HUGE amount of it. For example, if every survivor runs Tier 3 Up The Ante, and if every survivor puts up Vigo’s Jar of Salty Lips, (whilst every survivor is still alive) every body’s Luck shoots all the way up to a whopping 76% chance to Self Unhook. This is an almost (emphasis on almost) guaranteed chance for everyone to Self Unhook in 1 of their 3 attempts to unhook themselves.
Why is this significant? Especially when Deliverance exists?
Self Unhooks increase efficiency immensely. Particularly when everybody on the team is aware it isn’t necessary to waste time aiding someone on their first hook. Think about it. Currently the trend is that once the killer starts getting hooks, some one else might be in a chase, leaving 2 survivors working on gens, which of course requires 1 of them to go to the aid of whomever is on the hook. A really high Luck stat for all 4 survivors means up to 4 times per match an additional team mate can spend more time repairing generators when someone else is on their first hook.
Obviously, the problem here is that this means SWF are able to get the most out of Luck, not only just from the coordinating of stacking as much Luck as possible, but also in being clear across the board that it’s unnecessary to waste time going to assist someone on their first hook.
What about Deliverance? The drawbacks of this are pretty obvious. A survivor with Deliverance equipped could be hooked before getting it to activate. Plus in order activate Deliverance, the survivor needs to first unhook somebody else, a double hit to team efficiency even if some efficiency is gained back when the survivor with Deliverance is first hooked.
Using Up The Ante when Solo?
It’s still possible to milk as much as you can from Up The Ante by stacking it with Slippery Meat and your strongest available Luck offering. Up The Ante + Slippery Meat + Salty Lips will still give you a 20% increased chance to unhook yourself with every available attempt while everybody is still alive in the trial, whilst also still giving your teammates a 16% increased chance if they try to unhook themselves. The gamble with betting on Luck in solo play is that you never know when more Luck may be stacked in the match, and the fact that (seemingly) many other survivors still misunderstand Luck, and rarely attempt to self unhook despite the increased odds they have at successfully doing so, (seemingly) not even understanding why I just managed to unhook myself so easily.
I guess that’s the point of Up The Ante, and is thematically very meta as one of Ace’s perks: gambling with how lucky with Luck you can get by seeing how much more Luck may be granted/stacked before the start of the match. It’s just a shame so few other survivors try their Luck...

I tried Slippery Meat (+4%), Moderately Luck offering (+2%). For total of 10% luck, 6 attempts and I failed to unhook myself. With up the Ante may help. But you may need to kobe at the beginning to increase self unhook success.
While for me, the best use of self unhook is everyone still sit on Gen for 60sec then you unhook yourself.
Deliverance allows you to stay on hook for pure 59sec and unhook yourself, those 59sec can have 2 Gen done. Having 2 Deliverance in a match is much more powerful than 4x Slippery Meat, 2-4 Un the Ante and some more Luck offering.

Luck should be reworked and should reduce the chances that a killer camps or tunnels you.

It it helps, here are the numbers for people to determine what you (and your team mates) can get with what’s currently available in your inventory (and your team mates inventory).
Base chance (Luck) is 4% per attempt.
Up The Ante applies a stack-able 1/2/3 % bonus to Luck per token for all Survivors, up to a maximum of 3/6/9 %.
Slippery Meat increases Luck by 2/3/4%.
Chalk Pouch increases Luck by 1%.
Cream Chalk Pouch increases Luck by 2%.
Salt Pouch increases Luck for every survivor by 1%.
Ivory Chalk Pouch increases Luck by 3%.
Black Salt Statuette increases Luck for every survivor by 2%.
Vigo’s Jar of Salty Lips increases Luck for every Survivor by 3%.

Lol, I mean how would that work anyway? Beam mind control out of the screen? 🤣🤣🤣

If of course they’ve been managed to be activated, yes. But as stated earlier, this requires an initial dip in efficieny as you need to unhook someone.

hmm i think maybe self unhook should reward survivor with endurance ? what do you guys think ? since the risk itself is great but ofc without deliverance perk

Worst worst perk maybe? :)
